To the Stanciel family I send my sympathies and share your heartfelt loss. I met George years ago in Hawaii. We deployed to Sinai, Egypt together supporting the Multinational Forces and Observers and I tell you, what a guy to have been deployed with. He was a joy and I never forgot about him or his raspy voice. Coincidentally, it was this voice that I heard at the dining facility at FOB Stryker back in 2008 and couldn't believe it was actually him. While we couldn't share much time because I was only visiting that FOB, I left knowing that I had the opportunity to see a fellow Soldier with whom I had shared a fun and successful deployment and who had left an impression on me. After looking online last night for another fallen Soldier and seeing his name, I just couldn't hold back the emotions. I am so sad. I say to George's family, thanks for allowing me to have the opportunity to have known your Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, cousin, and friend. I will truly miss him and always keep him in my memory. May God bless you all.

George, The death of a child is something you never get over so please let your parents know that you are now ok. God has a way of giving us signs when we're still and I pray that God has allowed those signs to come to your parents and family. As a Gold Star Mother I know the pain of the death of a child. I also know that it's not the death we remember but the life you lived and loved. May that life be celebrated and remembered forever.
Your parents aren't alone and there are many who are there for them. If they ever want to talk to others who have gone through the death of a child or loved one in active duty please do contact me.
May God continue to provide His love and comfort to your family and friends.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know George, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Thanks to everyone for you words. George was my husband and my best friend. In the beginning I did not know how I would ever be able to do this without him. He is where I got my strength from. But my daughter told me one night while we lay and looked at his picture, "Mom you are strong you will make it" I could do nothing but believe that. This from an 8 year old. She is so much like him. Yes we will be just fine.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Mrs. Stanciel & family:
My family's deepest condolances on the tragic loss of your husband, Sargent First Class George Stanciel. I'm sure as BG Barclay stated in his euology that George was an outstanding soilder, and certainly an American Hero. I know you will always remember the many accomplishments in his life: brave warrior, musician in the HS band, and loving husband/father. God's Speed as you and your family go forward, as I'm sure George would want.
Respectfully,

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt1c George Stanciel our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for George. And to George it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. George, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to George’s family and loved ones.
