Steven, soon it will be a year that you will have left God's earth for higher ground. The death of a child is something you never get over so please let your parents know that you are now ok. God has a way of giving us signs when we're still and I pray that God has allowed those signs to come to your parents and family. As a Gold Star Mother I know the pain of the death of a child. I also know that it's not the death we remember but the life you lived and loved. May that life be celebrated and remembered forever.
Your parents aren't alone and there are many who are there for them. If they ever want to talk to others who have gone through the death of a child or loved one in active duty please do contact me. As I watched the tribute your mother did I truly know the love of family you had.
May God continue to provide His love and comfort to your family and friends.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Fitzmorris family. I would just like to tell you, that today Steven was remembered. I live in Il and each year the IL Motorcycle Association rededicates the Middle East Conflict Memorial Wall while we once again add names to the wall. This ride is known as the Freedom Run. This year my husband was honored to ride with Steven. If you go to www.ILFreedomrun.org you can see all the information on it. Each rider is given a dog tag of a fallen solider, and that solider rides with you that day. We had a beautiful day for a great ride, for a great purpose. They also unveiled a new flag that now flies undernearth the POW/MIA flag at the wall, it is called the Honor and Remember flag. My husband would like to keep the dog tag with Steven's name, that way Steven can continue to ride with him in future Freedom Runs, but we would love to hear from any family if you wish to share stories about Steven. We also plan on making another trip down to the wall to get a rubbing of his name off the wall. Please remember....Steven will never be forgotten, we will not let that happen!

To the Fitzmorris family,
“Not gold but only men can make
A people great and strong;
Men who for truth and honor’s sake
Stand fast and suffer long.
Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly---
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
We will remember Steven as a man who’s made this nation great and strong.
With sincere condolences,

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To Steven's Family,
My husband became very good friends with Steven or Fitz as he liked to be called. We remember the times he came to our house to visit; the conversations, the laughter and the support they gave each other. My husband spoke at his memorial service in Iraq and I want his family to know that his words were heart felt and true to Steven's personality. He was a fine solider, loving husband and father and wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in hopes of bringing you some comfort knowing how special a person he was in this very difficult time.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Too many times these days you hear words such as Courage, Honor , Commitment, and Hero thrown around carelessly. As a brother to a Marine who sacrificed for his country I , and many others whose Brothers, Husbands, Sons, Wifes, Daughters, and Mothers grace the pages of this Guestbook, know firsthand what these words mean.
Know that the sacrifice your soldier gave for the rest of us will never be forgotten.

"A Soldier's Prayer"
I was that, which others did not want to be, I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do, I asked nothing of those who did nothing and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love, I have cried, pained, and hoped... but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was, "A Soldier"
