Your son's memory lives on through the Annual Chris Smith in July Toys from Toot program. My son is in Children's Hospital Pittsburgh where 2 weeks ago he had a double lung transplant. We are 6 hours from home and will be here 6 weeks. The Child Life Department provided a Word Search Puzzle book that was donated in memory of Chris to my son to help pass the days here.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,000 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

To the parents of Staff Sgt. Christopher G. Smith:
I know your pain
I know your sorrow
It feels as though there's no tomorrow
It's Christmastime
Your child is gone
But know that from the great beyond
He's watching you
And is so proud
Wanting you to sing strong and loud
Allow this Christmas season in
So loving life can begin again.

Smitty - you were always a fine Soldier, and you'll remain in the hearts of those you touched with your actions - As Murt once said: It was the little things you did for the people that made you such an example of compassion and dedication - As always you did your duty, and there is no measure of gratitude that this country may give to repay for your sacrifice. Now rest in peace, and God bless you and your family.

BobbiJo,
It is with a heavy heart that I sign this guestbook entry. My name is Allyson Blackwell, I live in Colorado Springs, and my husband was killed in action on August 5, 2007. I'm leaving my contact information. Please get in contact with me when you feel ready to. I've tried to find you through myspace, but had no luck there. I just wanted to tell you you're in my prayers, and you are NOT alone, although I know you feel totally blown apart. I really hope you contact me, because I know for me, I felt like I was the only widow in the world until I met other women and found out I wasn't alone.

BobbiJo I am so sorry for your loss. I am still in shock. I was watching the news last night and saw his picture and started crying even before they even said his name. Your husband was a great man who loved his family and his Country a lot. May God give you and your family strength and peace through this difficult time. I am still here for you.
Love you and God Bless,

SSG Smith was once a soldier of mine. We were stationed together at FT. Sill. Me and my wife have fond memories of him. He was a great guy to be around and was a great friend. Came to our wedding and spent numerous times raiding my kitchen and watching football in our apartment. We are all deeply saddened to hear about his passing. There are no words that can express our sorrow. I can only say that I was a lucky guy to have know him and say that he was a friend. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to his family.

January 15, 2009

I'm a Solider serving in Iraq right now, and I meet SSG Smith in Tallili Iraq about 3 months ago. I didn't know him very well, but I did sense he was a strong NCO and a person with a big heart and a love for life, love for the Army and his fellow Soilders. Rest in peace brother, we will never forget you.

To the dear family of Sgt. Christopher Smith, I offer you my deepest sympathy for your devastating loss. I too walk in your shoes as I lost my own son in Iraq on June 6th, 2007. There are no words to express what one feels when our world changes forever. I can offer you some hope for the days ahead, and that would be to open yourself to the power of prayer. This has been an ongoing journey for me and thousands of others out there who lose a child. I feel so blessed to have had the chance to raise, and love my Matthew. I wouldn't trade one memory for anything in this world. Some angels are on loan to us for such a short time, and when they leave us a part of us dies too. Nothing can prepare you for the moment you give your heart to your child at birth, and nothing can prepare you for the moment when your child leaves this earth and takes a part of your soul with them. It is a daily struggle, and an emptiness that no one else can fill. I pray for you and your family as you try to move forward in life. We must all find a new normal in life, and I know that it is only my deep journey into faith that will see me through. I know that my Matthew was there at heavens gate to welcome your Christopher into a heaven of heros. Our country may never realize what these beautiful soldiers sacrifice for their freedom. I thank you and your family for the gift of your son. I often wonder at all the people our sons helped to save before they paid the ultimate price. I will forever remember your gift to the world and pray that you find your way, one step at a time. I believe that the greatest gift you can give your child is the freedom to choose. We gave that gift to our sons and the world is a better place because of these heros. Please contact me if you would like and I will do my best to share some of the beauty I have discovered on this journey of grief. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please know that Christopher's soul is always near. God bless you and your family. I am the proud mother of Sgt. Matthew Ryan Soper, my gift to the world.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

To the Smith family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Christophers' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

To the family of SSgt. Christopher G Smith

Our hearts are breaking again as another family has to endure the pain, loss and devastation of losing a son, fighting for our Freedoms. We remember our "Heores" as cute little guys that grew up to be wonderful men, willing to make the "ultimate sacrifice" for their country, families and friends. There is nothing anyone can say, but please remember that you are in the thoughts and prayers of us that have been there before you.

Christopher,
While I didn't have the privilege to know you, you were a soldier and
therefore, being a retired First Sergeant all soldiers have a place in my heart and I know what it is like to lose a soldier. While words will not
release your family, friends and comrades from the agony, pain and
grief they are feeling, PLEASE let them know that there are numerous
people who are sending our prayers and thoughts to them at this time.
If I had one wish it would be to have the power to bring our soldiers
back to be with us again. Only God can do that and it seems at this
time he needed a good NCO and Christopher was chosen.
