Alfred B. Siler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 30, 2005.
Alfred "Bart" Siler had already bought tickets to take his 3-year-old daughter, Mikkah, to Disney World over the summer. "He couldn't wait to get home and hold his little girl. He was going to take her to the beach, and they were going to go fishing and just hang out," said his brother, Jason. "He couldn't wait to have some biscuits and gravy and have him a cold beer." Siler, 33, of Duff, Tenn., died May 25 in a vehicle accident in Tuz. The National Guardsman was based in Knoxville, Tenn. Siler joined the military a few years after graduating from high school in 1989 and was a welder in civilian life. He enjoyed four-wheeling and outdoor activities. Most pictures of Siler in Iraq show him surrounded by children and holding stuffed animals for them. The conditions children lived in there sometimes brought him to tears, said Capt. Rhonda Jones. "He was a man of little words but probably had the biggest heart on anybody I've ever met," Jones said. Command Sgt. Maj. Prather said Siler always talked about his daughter. "She was the joy in his life," he said.

It's been 7 long years since you left us Bart but not a day passes we don't think about you and miss you. I remember coming back to Caldwell from leave and walking into the CHU and it never being the same. Me & Kirby sat for days talking about you and reliving all the crazy stuff we all did. We miss you brother. You touched our lives and the lives of people that never knew you. We will never forget you Bart. We miss you and love you so much bro! See you again someday soon....

To the family of Sgt. Siler,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Barton, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Dear Barton, (Daddy)

You made the ultimate sacrifice.I hope someday your little girl will be able to understad why? I don't understand why you where chosen that day to go and be with God. I sure can tell you that your little girl misses you so. Every night that she can see the moon, she waves at it and say's that's my daddy's moon. With my reply,I always say that is you and your daddy's moon. There is time she ask questions and I do the best I can to anwser them. She told me She want's God to bring you back. I wish that you could come back too. I'm sure one day she will realize that if you could come back you wouldn't. I will always do my best for our daughter and we do miss you so much. We will always have our last converstion in my heart the day before you got killed. Our lives have change so much. Know one in our family will ever be able to forget the summer of 2005. Our hearts (family) ach for you. I dedicate Clint Black's song to you See you "See You When I Get There". Well Barton we will meet again in Heaven someday. Your life was so short. My heart has never been so sad. Two weeks have passed and my mind continues to wonder back to the few times we spent riding four wheelers in the Mountain’s of East Tennessee and Kentucky. The time's I came home on leave and you opening your home to my family and myself. The time's I see you playing with Mikkah, smiling, laughing or just being mad. I'm going to miss all those times. I'm so glad for the day you accepted Christ as your personal savior. I know we will meet again. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15-13.. KJV.. I will check in on your dad from time to time and as for Mikkah, you know she will be spoiled. Memorial Day will always be a little more meaningful now. It's time to say good bye, so from one Soldier to another until we meet again. Some gave all, and you were some-

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for the tremendous sacrifice you have made for our country and the cause of freedom. This Memorial Day, we join with you in celebrating the life of Sgt. Siler, and join in the prayers of many who ask God to grant you His grace and peace as you grieve your great loss. Our brave men and women in uniform may not consider themselves heroes, but they are. They are the best of the best, and their courage gives us hope that America can once again be as noble and great as her past. May we be inspired by their bravery and willingness to serve in such a way as to make a real difference in the world around us. May we always remember… and never forget. God bless you!

Dear Siler Family:

On this Memorial Day, I am reminded of so many, like Alfred, who have given their all so I may enjoy freedom. I am further reminded that the sweetness of freedom extends FAR beyond the borders of our country as a result of our soldiers' ultimate sacrifice. I am sure that these who have tasted this freedom are also eternally humbled and greatful.

I lift up your family in prayer before our Heavenly Father - that He will impart His peace and comfort. May God bless you, keep you, and cause His face to shine upon you.
