Anthony N. Kalladeen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2005.
Anthony N. Kalladeen and his older brother, Chad Pillai, were put up for foster care when they were just 9 and 10 after their mother suffered a nervous breakdown. But Kalladeen, at age 17, came looking for her and his brother to reunite the family. "He showed us what true love was," said his cousin Ana Rodriguez, 46. "He showed no animosity toward his mother." Kalladeen, 26, of Purchase, N.Y., died Aug. 8 when his vehicle was ambushed. He was assigned to New York City and was on his second tour. Kalladeen, a former Marine with four years of service, was attending Purchase College before he was sent to Iraq. "He was like a big teddy bear," said Krystina Orellano, 19, a junior. "When he gave us a hug, he took all the air out of you." Pillai, himself a captain in the Army, flew in from Germany for the funeral. "There's been a lot of heartache over the years, but finding each other again was the best part of my life," said Pillai. He then tucked his own dog tags into Kalladeen's hands just before the coffin was closed. "He'll always have my tags," Pillai said. "He always can find me."

Anthony was such a genuine, loving, caring and fun loving person. He always brightened the room when he entered and always made sure that you were doing well. It is 2021, and yet it feels like yesterday that he was taken from us. The world isn't the same without him. Thank you Anthony for being my friend and for being one of a kind. Purchase College was lucky to have you as a student and we were all lucky to have you as a friend and brother. You are missed my friend.

15 years have gone by and it has not gotten easier. Anthony was a big teddy bear. I absolutely miss his smile and hugs the most. I know he wanted the best for myself and my sister. I hope I have made him proud. I love and miss you cousin Anthony. You are missed more than you know. Continue to watch over us.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Kalladeen Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

This week, it will be 7 years since I received the terrible news of what happened to you in Iraq. 7 Years later, I find myself in another war zone, Afghanistan, hoping that I continue to do good as you did and would have done. My daughter, your niece, is now 3 and growing quickly. While she does not know of her uncle, I promise she will grow to love and respect you as much as I do. All I ask is that you keep looking down on her from time to time while I am so far away from her this coming year. Love, your bother

A random day, but I'm sure I'm not the only one...I can't stop thinking about you. I miss you. I will always love you. My son carries your name because you will always be part of our family. I know you dont want us to be sad, but it hurts to know that your genuine kindness, honesty, and love lives in our memories, rather than in our present. Love you.

A day doesn't go by that I don't think of Anthony. I was one of his teachers at Purchase College and I have never known a more devoted student - devoted to his family, his studies, and his fellow students. Anthony was a man who would have made a great difference in this world and he is much missed by me and my fellow professors who taught him.

To Anthony:

It has been 4 years since you passed and since then your memory has remained strong in my heart. This past year, my wife gave birth to my daugther, your neice. While I know you are not around to see and hold her, I know you are always looking down on her and protecting her as you would your own daughter. You gave me strength during my own service in Iraq months after your death. You gave me the courage to confront those who are evil and help those who needed it. I avenged your death not by blood, but by building lives and communities as I did in Tal Afar and Ar Ramadi. I know you are always by my side and that of my family. You will never be forgotten, you'll always be a part of me, and your neice will know what a great man you were as she grows up. Love your brother, Chad.

I'm from Harrison, I am sad to see so many other fallen like SPC. Anthony N. Kalladeen on Google's Map The Fallen. Yes it is Memorial day weekend and we are all thinking of the honored fallen, it is almost too much to see this. I can only reach out from my internal core spiritually and I send energies of peace and rest to us all.

It has been 3 years and 2 days to the day that you passed away. You loss was hard for me and everyone, but your spirit remains strong with everyone and you give inspiration to those that seek the higher ground to achieve more. As your brother, I can never say sorry enough for not being there enough for you, but I wanted to let you know that you are not far from my thoughts.

In Memory of Anthony ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Anthony, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I, and I am sure everyone else miss your huge suffocating bear hugs. You got me through Iraq and your cares and kindness gets me through life. Dear Kalladeen Family,

I realize there is NOTHING that could be said to you that could ever ease the loss that your family has endured... I wouldn't even begin to try.

I simply felt the need to convey my deepest, heart felt condolences, to those that lived nearest me...

I SIMPLY HAD TO reach out to those that lived closest to me and let their families know that the sacrifice that their SONS & DAUGHTERS have made ARE NOT, and WILL NOT be forgotten, and were not made in vain!

We gladly add your beloved son to our prayers, along with ALL of our other fallen Sons & Daughters!

Dear Anthony,
Two years without you hardly seems fair...if you were traveling and seeing the world, studying hard, or head over heels in love with an exotic beauty I could embrace the absence. But two years without you because you're also without us makes me wonder about the God Who Loves You.
Love always,

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Anthony is sorely missed everyday by our community at Andrus. This was his home, since he was 9, when not in the service. I remember sitting with Anthony during our breaks and pushing him to go to college, and talk about where his life might lead . The real shame is that these will never be fullfilled. Anthony had so much to offer so many people. He lived, here worked here, and always represented us proud. Anthony relished DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY!!

Anthony was very special to all of us here at Andrus. This was his home, for most of his life. He was a student, then a worker, mentor, and lifeguard here. I sat with Anthony many times during our breaks and discussed where his life would take him. The shame will always be the this was never fulfilled. Anthony truly represented , DUTY,HONOR,COUNTRY!!

I think about my brother every day. I wear his dog tags and cross every day and a bracelet that reminds me of his sacrifice. As I sit here in Iraq, I constantly think about the life he led and the dreams he had. A life cut short....too short to fulfill its destiny. His loss has given me strenght to carry on his mission to help others. To protect the weak from the strong. To give hope to those that do not know of it. My brother gave me the opportunity to reach out to my family and re-unite with those I long forgot. I wear his memory proudly. I still miss him not because he just my brother, because he was a good man, a role model for others.

The interesting and heartbreaking thing about Anthony is that yesterday was both Memorial Day and his birthday. He would have been 27.

I try not to think about him, but you just can't not think about him. I respect the life he chose, even if I can't understand why he's not with us now. I love most of all, that he made an honorable life out of the little he was given.

Finally I can express what it has been like to know someone who was such an amazing person and always had other people look up to him. Anthony is truly one remarkable young man. I had met him through our outdoor weekend gym class and we went through alot together. He always had my back in that class and even outside of class. We'd meet alot for breakfast at the dining hall and even for dinner. I remember going into his room and looking at his uniforms all nicely pressed, it reminded me of my brothers uniform; my brother is in the marines so Anthonys death truly hit me hard. I was there the day that he left for the last time out of purchase. He told me he'd be back and that he wanted to finish up the school year, I told him I had no doubt in my mind because his spirit was so strong I felt nothing could of stopped him. He wrote to me alot while he was down there and with every letter he had hopes of returning back to purchase. Purchase and everyone in it was like his second family and with that said a piece of all of our hearts go out to Anthony and his family for we all miss him dearly...we truly do.

I told him he was in my prayers then, and I tell you - he is in my prayers now. My deepest sympathy...

Anthony was a fighter. He was a fighter largely because he had to be in order to succesfully negotiate the hand life dealt him, but also because that is just the kind of person he was. He loved the military and was at home when conversations revolved around soldier stories, knives or swords. He was also a student of history and had he gotten the chance, I believe he would probably have pursued a career as an officer and gone on to become a great military leader with a deep knowledge of both military history and history in general. Anthony was also looking to settle down with the right woman, buy himself a little house in Pennsylvania, and become a wonderful family man. Unfortunately, all these have now become hypotheticals. But Anthony's zest for living and all his dreams and aspirations will live on with all of us whose life he came to touch, however briefly. Thank you for all the memories, Anthony. We all miss you and you will not soon be forgotten.

I met Anthony years back when he was in highschool. He worked as a lifeguard and was determined to be a Marine after graduation. Even as a lifeguard, all of the dedication he gave demonstrated that he was to be a man of determination, motivation, and pride in everything he did. As a soldier, I know that he gave every part of him into being the best. I saw the excitement in his eyes whenever he spoke of his accomplishments. Anthony's smile and laugh will not be missed because he will always be with us, so long as we remember to keep him with us. My friend will never leave my side. Continue to love him the way he loved, unconditionally. Put best, "Un Cabballero."

I knew Anthony more so than Chad, but I share his deep grief and loss for Anthony. He was truly an amazing person, a loving man, and a giving soul. I can see Chad has many of the same qualities. My consolation is that they live on in him.

I love you, Anthony.

I have just learned of the death of Spc. Anthony Kalladeen. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution and speaking for our President, George Thurmond and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia, may I most humbly express the condolences of a grateful Society. Spc. Kalladeen, wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you…!!!

To Chad and your family,

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I am a friend of Chad's from college.

I didn't know Anthony but knew his brother Chad quite well from college. It is amazing that he still maintains his sense of duty as a Captain in the Army.

I guess it runs in the family considering Anthony was a Marine then signed up for the Guard after having done his duty.
