Kenith Casica Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2005.
Kenith Casica married his girlfriend, who lived down the street, when she was 16 and he was 19. He had her name tattooed on his arm and gave both his daughters the same middle name: his wife's name, Renee. "My husband was a man that when he smiled, he lit up a room," his wife said. "I'm thankful for the time God gave me with him, and that's what I'm going to hold on to." Casica, 32, of Virginia Beach, Va., was killed Dec. 10 by small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to Fort Campbell. Casica had been injured by shrapnel from a rocket-propelled grenade during his first deployment. Casica was born in the Philippines, and his family lived in Hawaii and California before moving to Virginia Beach in 1985. He graduated from high school in 1994 and joined the Army two years later. As a teenager, he worked at a McDonald's, delivered The Virginian-Pilot newspaper and poured concrete. In death, he got something he had long hoped for: U.S. citizenship. "He wanted it more than anything, because this is his country," said his wife. He also is survived by daughters, Kristen, 13, and Shilyn, 10, and son, Logan, 4.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Kenith, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

It breaks my heart to hear of this only now. I knew Casica from our tour in Iraq together in 2003/2004. My sincere condolences go out to Renee and her family. I still remember all of you from when Ken first got transferred to the 101st.

I really have no idea how to put into words how it broke my heart hearing this news and reading what you wrote about him Renee. Every time I think about what Ken, Renee and their family has been through I wonder what I could have done. I remember sitting with Ken and talking about Ravago when we lost him and bringing him back to the CP when he got injured from the RPG and him being typical Ken cracking jokes. I wish I knew what to say or could have been there, could have done something... I am truly sorry.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Hey Honey,

I know it's been along time since I wrote in here. I've been writing letters to you in my journals. Ken it just don't seem real. I keep waiting to wake up from all this hell. i miss you so much baby. the kids are getting through, some days are easier then others for them. as for me i'm finding it harder and harder to just do on. I feel so alone. the days go by with a pace. the nights they seem to last to long. I feel your presence here. i just wish I could be in your arms. Talk to you. Hear your laugh. it wasn't supposed to be like this for us. We were supposed to grow old together. You teasing me and keeping me on my toes. Who's supposed to do that know baby? the only way I get through my days now is our babies. I promise to raise them the way you would have wanted. I know your waiting at the gates for me. i love you so much. just know your always in my heart, your part of my soul. you always said we were soul mates. Together we could do anything. me by myself I feel like I can't accomplish anything. My hearts just not in it. I love you Honey!

I’m the father of a deployed soldier that “serves with” Kenith and was never personally honored to meet him. I hope that you will be able to find some comfort to know that Kenith has touched my son’s life both as a soldier and a mentor in ways that I can’t begin to explain. Although, he no longer physically patrols this earth his positive influence and spirit “lives on” in soldiers like my son.

Thank You Kenith and bless your family!

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I do not know any of you, but I am Travis' cousin. Because of his love for Kenith, we now have a bond. Their sacrifice will make us all stronger and brings us all together as a family.

Kenith will live on through the sacrifice he has given. He is a hero. I am proud to be able to honor him and know that Travis has a good friend to share Heaven with.

My prayer is that the family will be comforted knowing that these two great men are walking side by side in God's Army.

May God give you strength and comfort knowing that we will all be together with the Lord, one day.

When I flew to Kentucky to be with you and the kids, Renee, I didn't know what to expect. I never thought that I'd get to know Ken all over again. It never occurred to me that he had touched so many lives, and continues to do so today. It's amazing how one man could open his arms so wide and encompass so many; and never ask for anything in return. I am only sorry that I didn't realize how truly wonderful he was before he passed. I'm sure he would have been humbled. Renee, you are a strong, beautiful, independent woman. It is an honor to call you my sister. I love you.

Dear Renee Kristen Shylin and Logan,

First of all, sorry if I mispelled any of your names. Most importantly...Ken was a great guy. Jesse and I were new to the area and Ken made us feel at home. I know I didn't know all of you for very long but you have been in my thoughts ever since we met. I remember the night I got the phone call telling me about Sgt Casica and Ssg Nelson. I hit the floor as soon as I heard Ken was dead. I didn't know how to react...I still don't know how to react. He was sooo nice and easy to get along with. I remember when he would tell Jesse and I that we could stay with all of you so that we wouldn't be spending an arm and a leg on a hotel room for the month and a half we were down there before they deployed. I was soo worried something bad was going to happen while our husbands were fighting in Iraq. I just never dreamed or hoped that one of us would be going through this right now. I don't know how you are holding up. Everytime I talk with you on the phone you seem fine and it amazes me. I know you and Ken were together for a long time and I know I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I were in the same situation. You all are very strong-willed people and I admire that. If ever you need a person to talk to or a shoulder to cry on I'm here. Just say the word and I'll be there. Ken was a great man/husband/father and he will be missed!!!!!

Lots of love and respect,

Renee....We want to give you our deepest sympathy during this time. Ken was such a great guy...always smiling and playing with the kids and the dogs. He was always ready to have a conversation with us, always willing to give that little wave as we drove by each other coming in and out of the courtyard. I know that this must be the most difficult time in your and your children's lives. Please know that we are here for you and your family should you ever need anything...anytime..any place...we are here for you all. Please know that just knowing such a loving, kindhearted person such as Kenith has made all our lives much better. Stay strong for yourself and for the kids. We love you guys. Please don't hesitate to give a call if you need to talk or need a shoulder to cry on....that's what I'm here for.

Renee,

I will miss Ken's smile and generosity that he brought to everyone he came in contact with.

Ken and Travis were working miracles and we are still feeling the results of their effort.

The loss of Ken has been hard for all of us. His ability to interact with the locals was outstanding. Many nights would we spend together talking to locals and learning about the area.

You are in my prayers and if you ever need anything please get a hold of me or Risa.

Hey Renee,

I'll never forget Ken. He'll always be in my thoughts and I had so much fun when I was around him. I'll never forget Chucky Cheese and how we were having fun going up and down on the machine to make it jump. I'll always be here for your family.

To the Casica family,

We didn't know Ken, but he served with our brother-in-law Travis. Both were two brave men who will always be our heros. May God give you strength during this difficult time. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

I had the honor of serving with Ken with HHC 2D Brigade 101st Airborne. He was the type of soldier all leaders wished they had. You have my deepest sympothy. He will never be forgotten.
