Marcelino R. Corniel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 4, 2006.
Marcelino R. Corniel was only 23 days away from saying, "I do." "He was packed and so happy he was coming home. I told him, `Baby. Be careful. Please take care of yourself,''" said his fiancee, Claudia Calderon. "He was the love of my life. I''m numb." Corniel, 23, of La Puente, Calif., was killed Dec. 31 in Baghdad in a mortar attack. He was assigned to Fullerton. Corniel, whose family members called him Ronnie, served four years as a Marine, went to Iraq and was sent back a second time in September with the Army National Guard. His grandmother, Geraldine Vigil, described her grandson as confident and a born leader who loved guns, protected the women in the family and was a role model. Corniel loved music. He started a band last year called Crash Ride, which recorded a CD titled "Never Forget." His grandmother said he was set to get a Bronze Star with a "V" for valor for an incident earlier in Iraq where his actions saved other troops. "I don''t know what I''m going to do without him," said his mother, Elaine Lopez. His biological father died when he was young.

Hello,

We wanted to let you know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We are sending Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Marcelino Ronald "Ronnie" Corniel US Army Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Marcelino, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To Spc. Marcelino R. Corniel, his fiance' and family. My heart is with you on his day of remembrance.
I've read what was said in the beginning and what was said from all of you on this day.
I thank all of you for sacrificing a fine young man for all of our freedoms. What a sacrifice he made when he decided to sleep in a tent and walk in dangerous places instead of taking a scholarship with all the fringe benefits. What a fine young man that SO many could learn from.
You don't know me but I have a son deployed as well. So, I kind of understand.
Sending love to all of you,
Michelle

I'm glad I found this guest book. I had the special honor of watching Ronnie grow up from a bright kid with ambitions and goals, to a man who made a mark in other people's lives. When I heard of this loss, I was without words and felt that a part of my past was taken away. I called Ronnie's mom and told her how much her son meant to me personally, and she let me know what I meant to him. I wish we only said it to each other. Ronnie, watch over us now, guide us to be better and welcome us when we join you. Semper Fidelis.....

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I once read that we should live our life as we would like to be remembered at our funeral. I attended the services for Ronnie last night. I listening to his family, friends, teachers and people he had known over the years, eulogize him. What a special person he was. I now know what it means to live your life. Ronnie touched many lives. Mine was one of them. How many of us can say we are living our life as we will be remembered at our funeral. After last night I know Ronnie did. Bless your family. You were truly a reflection of them.

Ronnie, was and will always be a great friend, brother, grandson and son. He will be missed, but be comforted in knowing that he died doing what he loved, serving his country, defending freedom, making each and every one of us proud! Rest in peace Ronnie.

Dear God,

This prayer Lord, that I say tonight

Is for our troops who all must fight .

These are the troops that we all love

And so I pray dear Lord above

Please keep them safe while they’re away

And bring them home to us someday.

This prayer is not for ours alone

But for all military far from home.

I ask You to keep them safe and sound

On their way to where they're bound.

We love them all that are asked to fight

So keep them safe for us tonight.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us.

Bless them and their families for the selfless acts

they perform for us in our time of need.

Amen.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Spc. Marcelino R. Corniel - yet another courageous HERO lost to this war. Having just lost our son SFC Brent Adams on 12/1 I know there is nothing I can say right now to make it better. It still doesn't seem real to me. Just know you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers as we move forward to a day when, hopefully, the memories will once again make us smile rather than cry.

THANK YOU!!! Only those who have experienced such an unfortunate loss can truly understand how you feel. On behalf of my family and millions of Americans we wish you God's Best as you reflect, as time goes by, of the wonderful times you, and friends, shared with Marcelino.

America has many strengths, and one of the best has always been those who are so ready to serve in the military. Marcelino was another fine example of the zealousness of youth to help others, even those in another country, despite the risk of losing their own life, so that others may have a life that provides freedom and opportunity to be all that God wants them to be.

May your memories of him sustain all of your family members & friends, for your lifetime, as you remember his desire to serve others. Know that there are others out here that know what you are going thru! And we are here for you! You are in my thoughts and prayers!
