Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; her sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people she died defending. RIP Amy.

April 2, 2010

To family and friends of PFC Duerksen, I have just returned from the Oregon Women Veterans Conference. There were about 350 female Veterans registered. Each name tag had the photo and name of a female soldier who has died in combat. Amy's name was on mine. We held a candlelight rememberance service while the faces of each soldier was shown, and stood for the soldier whose face appeared on our nametag. It was with a heavy, but grateful heart that I stood as Amy's name was announced. I am honored that I was able to participate in such a beautiful and moving tribute to our heroes. Our country owes Amy's loved ones a debt that can never be repaid except to honor her sacrifice. Thank you, Lori L. Lassiter

I just wanted to let you know how deeply sorry i am for your loss. I wanted to let you know that she was surrounded with doctors and nurses that really cared about her. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. She was beautiful and I will always remember her forever.

August 22, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Amy,
I was blessed to be able to share some time with your parents and grandparents at a recent TAPS seminar held near Fort Hood. It was so wonderful to be able to share our common love for our loved ones and Fallen heroes. I couldn't stop looking at your Dad's button with your big, beautiful eyes and incredible smile. It didn't take long to figure out that your family loves you dearly.

Thank you for your sacrifice and service to this country. We will never forget you.

To the Duerksen Family,
Amy I am sure did wonderful things in her life time though it be short. I know she is an American Hero and that due to her death I am a better person. I can never thank her for keeping me and my family free. My husband and I became Patriot Guard Riders because of Amy's death. We never wanted to see another soldiers family have to face what yours did. We now stand tall and silent for thoese who stood in harms way for us. Amy will never be forgotten by Mark nor I see will always be in our hearts as you will always be in our prayers.

Please know that I am deeply sorry for the recent loss

of your loved one, Pfc. Amy A. Duerksen.

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,

and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,

I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing.

The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.

Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.

Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.

May Amy Rest Safely, in the Mighty Arms of God

and know that she WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I pray that God's Loving Comfort and Grace continue to

be with the Duerksen family.

I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, also 19 years young,

who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Surely He hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrow.

Isaiah 53:4

With each new day, may the Lord restore your soul and, through His love, give you the strength to go on.

Softly and slowly...

Time heals...

To all of Amy's Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of grief. I totally understand your feelings of sadness and all the emotions that go with losing a child; even the anger. Some days for me are liveable, some days are bad, but with God's help, I make it through. I know in my heart that there is a special place in Heaven for soldiers like Amy and my sweet Tina. I pray every day for all soldiers defending our freedom here on earth, and for all soldiers who have given their lives for its continuance. Please know that if I can help you in any way, you can contact me. May Amy rest in the peace and love of God's arms. May God Bless you with Peace and Grace. I send you much love.

March 24, 2006

To the Family of Pfc. Amy A. Duerksen:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost our son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
