Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Twitchell Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Abraham G. Twitchell US Marine Staff Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Much time has passed since the loss of Ssgt Twitchell but I know that the pain is still with you on a daily basis. I know because my nephew, Cpl David Bass, was also lost that fateful day. I am so grateful to Abe, even though I never had the chance to meet him. Our heroes are gone but their memory is still with us and so is the pride we have in the fact that they served our country with honor. God be with you all until the day comes when we will see our heroes again.

I was out there in Habbaniyah in April of 2006. The rains were ugly. I served with Twitchell when he was a Corporal, then promoted to Sergeant in a Security Force Company Bangor Washington. I have no clue how he did it! He was our armorer, and I must say he kept us supplied with the right stuff, and kept our weapons working.

I used to write things as others have, but I will just tell you some of who he was.

We would get out of a guard week. Beat up, tired from numerous drills and horrible sleep schedules, and worn ragged at the end of a week.

He would be at the armory forcing us to clean our weapons or lube it up, and what he did was always kept us ready. I don't know how he put up with our grumbling, but as I look back, he did beyond his job. He kept the Marine in Bangor ready to fight should the need arise with weapons that would be working right out the armory. He did above and beyond his duty, his contribution kept with many of us through the Corps, our priorities on what is important, that always ready mentality.

He was a great individual. I would harass my fleet armorers comparing them to Twitchell, but having Twitchell, everyone else is 2nd, so go figure, they had tough competition. I would sit in line to turn in my weapon and complain that one armorer in Bangor would be here waiting, and check in our weapons faster than these two guys.

Semper Fidelis.

To his family, I am sorry about your loss. Know that this was a hardcore Marine, and he is one the Marines that makes the Marine Corps the tough and honorable fighting force it is.

You will not be forgotten brother. See you at the gates in heaven.

Maurice, Katy, and Amy,
I write specifically to you because you have touched my life and my family's life at one time or another. I met Abraham once at your house Maurice, and I knew immediately how proud you were of him, and how much you loved him. Katy, I remember how your face lit up whenever you talked about or heard Abraham's name. And, Amy I see you at church, and know what a sweet spirit you have much like your sister Katy. What an awesome family. Words are so hard to come up with when we lose people that are so vital to our lives, and who we love so very much. Especially when they are so young, with so much joy ahead, so many memories to make, and so much love to give and to receive. But, our Heavenly Father knows all, and knows that through him we can find comfort and peace. From what I have heard, Abraham lived a wonderful life, and the most important thing is that he found true love, joyfull love, eternal love. And, he was able to know the joy of being a daddy. The best part of all is that someday you will all get to be together again, and I can just imagine the celebration that will happen when you get to hug each other again, get to touch one another, get to laugh together, get to say the things that you wish you could say to him day. Be patient and your wishes will one day come true when you are reunited with Abraham. Abraham was brave, he was a proud Marine and Heavenly Father knows the sacrifices he has made for his country, family and friends, and so there will be special rewards poured out to him. I am sure that at this very minute he is busy, and enjoying spending time with his family and friends who are waiting there with him until the time comes to be reunited with all of his loved ones. I've heard that when someone we love dies they become our guardian angel, and I believe that because when my sister passed away suddenly I was devistated, but then I began to feel her presence at times that I needed comfort, or when I was in danger, or whenever I needed to feel her touch. Aren't we lucky that we have a Father in Heaven who understands our sorrow, our grief, our need for comfort, and is able to grant us many things to help us heal. I hope that each member of Abraham's family will feel God's comfort, and will also be able to accept the comfort and service of those around you. You need our service, and we need the opportunity to bless you with whatever service we are capable of doing. Abraham's family are brave also, and have sacrificed a lot with his death. But, all of you will be blessed if you turn to Heavenly Father for his comfort, and knowledge.
Love from a friend.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

That you are round about me, I believe”

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To the family and friends of SSGT Abraham G Twitchell

I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one last month. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue and pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.

As always I read through the memorials, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Abraham have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine man.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your brave Marine. My son, Cpl. Josh Cagle is in Iraq and a part of Staff Sgt. Twitchell's unit. When I spoke with Josh on the telephone after the incident he specifically mentioned one person he knew from the incident was a Staff Sgt. and how he always told Josh how he couldn't wait to see his family, I could tell by the tone in his voice how saddened he was and how touched he was by how much he missed you all. I pray your hearts will heal with time and know you are in my thoughts and prayers every day. Words cannot convey to you how sorry I am for your great loss. Even though we don't know one another, we are a part of the same extended family of our brave, unselfish young Marines that we love so much.

To the Family of Staff Sgt. Abraham G. Twitchell:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost our son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
