The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

That you are round about me, I believe”

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Hi sweetie,
I guess you saw us yesterday when we came to visit you. Sorry we weren't able to stay long to talk with you. Dad wanted to ride the bike out to visit, but the weather wouldn't cooperate. It looked like a lot of friends had been by to see you. You had several new trinkets there. I am sure you had a wonderful day up there with all your comrades and that you all were preparing for the arrival of the ones who came yesterday. You will never be forgotten, nor will they. We love you so much and miss you even more.

He joins me in the sorrow we feel concerning the loss of your son. Please include Crockett in your prayers.

We can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter has served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With the mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Chase in his arms and will give him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Pfc. Chase A. Edwards, our HERO. We are so proud of them that are willing to sacrifice for this great Nation, THANK YOU.

I did not personally know Chase, but my husband and I are friends with Jim and Renee Owens. I saw Renee the other day and she gave me a website to see the motorcycle in Chase's memory and I got to view the pictures from the ride in remembrance of Chase from the one year anniversary of Chase's death.

Know in your heart that Chase is a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace Chase. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To Chase's family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

I AM SORRY FOR YOUR GREAT LOSS. PFC. EDWARDS WAS A HERO IN THE TRADITION OF THE NAVAL SERVICES. THEIR TRAINING AS MARINES SETS THEM APART FROM OTHER SOLDIERS AND ESTABLISHES A CERTAIN ATTITUDE I WISH ALL YOUNG PEOPLE HAD TODAY. MY SON-IN-LAW WAS KILLED IN IRAQ ON JANUARY 22,2007. HE WAS IN 2/7 CAV OF 1ST CAVALRY DIVISION. BECAUSE OF HIM I AM TRYING TO SIGN ALL GUEST BOOKS OF ALL FALLEN SOLDIERS IN 1ST CAV. WHEN I SEE A NAME ON ONE OF THESE WEBSITES I VISIT THAT BOOK ALSO. ALL SERVICEMEN SHOULD BE HONORED NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE IN. I ALSO THANK PFC. EDWARDS FAMILY FOR SUPPORTING HIM SO HE COULD DEFEND MY FREEDOM ALSO. THANK YOU,

The price this Brave Young Marine and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten.

May Chase rest safely in the Loving Care of God and know that he is a True American Hero that will Never Be Forgotten. May the Grace and Comfort of the Lord continue to be with the Edwards family.
There will Never be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my 19 year old brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

Another Fallen Hero ~

My heart breaks as I sign this guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him, as well as strangers who admired his courage and sacrifice. God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and made the ultimate sacrifice.

We understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of your loss. We know first hand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our only son 9-3-2004 at the age of 19 and it fells like yesterday. Just know that there are Marine families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain. You are not alone. We will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes.

My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the entire family. May God grant you peace, strength and comfort in such a difficult time. I will keep your family in my prayers along with all the families of our American Hero’s.

Chase, My family and I are thankful for the Bravery, Courage, Determination and Service, for your true dedication in protecting and serving our country (our freedom) from you, my son and all the others in our armed forces for the sacrifice made for us. You all will not be forgotten.

We also have a Marine daughter and Marine son-in-law. I still fly my Marine flag and have my Marine tag and sticker on my vehicles because I'm PROUD of my SON and all the MARINE MEN and WOMEN out there. I will always be a MARINE. We are proud of you all. “Land of the Free, Because of the Brave”

Thank you Legacy.com for setting up this website so families can quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves across this great nation.

Dear Chase:
I was thinking about you today and i saw the wrist bands we made for you in your honor and i just thought of how much you meant to our town of lake charles. You were the best there was, I mean you got along with everyone and i bet you would never be able to find anyone who didn't like you. Chase im never going to forget those days when you were a trainer for the soccer team and we would always make jokes about how bad we used to suck. I am thinking of you as I do every day, but especially as I remove your "angel" ornament from the tree. I know your Christmas must have been so glorious. We love you always.

I did not know your son, but believe my brother PFC Derek Champagne trained with him here in North Carolina. I am a Lake Charles native married to a Marine officer. My husband and I recently experinced only a portion of the pain you now feel, as we lost his best friend from college (LT Brandon R. Dronet of Erath). It is a tough thing to face the loss of a loved one and for Marines and Marine families we feel each and every loss as it were our own. Take comfort in knowing your son now spends his time not only beside God almighty, but some of the bravest, most honorable men this country has ever seen. He is and will remain a U.S. Marine and you all a Marine family! If ever you need anything feel free to contact me. My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Dear Edwards Family,

Even though we have never met I feel as if we are a part of a "family". My daughter's fiancee was killed in Iraq by an IED on Oct. 3, 2005. It is my prayer that God will hold you close to His heart as He has held my family these past months. May you feel His comfort and peace as you go thru these difficult days.

No words are ever enough to take away the pain of losing a loved one - especially so abruptly and so young. May the comfort from God's Word strengthen you in knowing that one day there will be no mourning, no outcry, nor pain. - Rev. 21:3,4. Perhaps the comfort from God be like a warm coat on a cold day. It doesn't take away the harsh circumstance, but it does help you to better cope. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the Family of Pfc. Chase A. Edwards:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost Brent on 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
