I am truly sorry that I am just now writing this in 2021. I knew Ryan through school. I was the teacher's assistant for his history class out in the trailers with Mr. McNaughton at Antelope Valley High. A good portion of the class were the ROTC kids and I loved them. Ryan was always such a cut up and always smiling. We would pass notes (not the best example as the TA, I know, probably why he was near the front lol) and flick paper footballs at each other. The day his passing was published in the newspaper, my brother had been looking for jobs and reading other stories. He asked me, since I went to AV High, if the name Ryan Clark rang a bell. I said I dont know (it had been a few years since I had graduated and I was older than Ryan). As I went to toss the paper onto my counter, I saw his picture and it clicked right away. I grabbed the paper back mid air, silently stunned, and sat down reading it. And then I just cried. Each day of greeting the class, or running in late, and always getting a familiar smile and joke from Ryan was most times the best part of my day. Senior year was hard and he made it better for 45 minutes at a time. We weren't in the same friend circle, and I didnt know his family, but I think about you guys all the time and wonder how you are. He was a wonderful person.

You are missed Ryan. I actually found our teacher's contact info and we spoke about you at length, you made such an impression on both of us.

To the family of CPL Ryan Clark. Today at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fl., we had a remembrance 5k run honoring those that have given the greatest sacrifice to our country. Instead of race bibs, we wore the name and picture of a Service Member. After reading the small blurb that was written about CPL Clark, I chose to wear his name and picture on my chest as I ran.
I can't even fathom how your family feels, but rest assured CPL Ryan Clark is not and will never be forgotten.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Ryan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the Clark Family:

It was my honor as a PGR member & a Marine mom to attend the services for Ryan. His loss to his family, friends, The Armed Forces family and our nation is irreplaceable. There is such a terrible cost in the fight for freedom. However, with my sadness comes a deep sense of pride.

Mr. & Mrs. Clark, remember all of those times good and bad while raising your son, Ryan. Keep those memories deep within your heart as each and every one of them are what made Ryan into the exceptional young man he became.

Grieve for your son, as you should, but hold your head up high, proud that Ryan was who he was deep within the marrow of his own soul.

I stand beside you in your time of loss as a proud 'blue star' mother of a US Marine and a member of the PGR.

I hope that the condolence book I presented to you at the services today will bring you comfort and the peace that comes from knowing that you are not alone & hearts all over this nation are grieving with you & supporting you.

With Love and Prayers

To the family of Cpl. Ryan Clark:

I am so sorry to read of your loss. It seems as if our military family is growing faster than we can imagine. Our son Chris was killed on June 20, 2006 in Iraq. The last

two weeks have been unimaginable. I

want you to know that we are available at any time. I hope that

you are being surrounded by friends and family and are being supported with lots of prayer. There are no words to say that can bring any comfort right now. Just know that we will always have a special bond.

Kathi & Jim Leon

July 5, 2006

To the Family of Cpl. Ryan J. Clark;

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
