Nathan J. Frigo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2006.
When his high school cross country team went for hide-and-seek runs, Nathan J. Frigo often took them to extremes. "Nathan would cover himself up with leaves and hide for hours. The rest of us would go home and not know where he was. Coach Pete would go around to try and find him because he was so hard core," said former teammate Melia Harrison. "There was always this part of him that was like a child, a kid who found life grand fun and enjoyable," said Pete Schroer, his former coach. Frigo, 23, of Kokomo, Ind., was killed Oct. 17 when a bomb detonated near his vehicle in Baqubah. He was a 2001 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Carson. Frigo lettered in cross country and track. He loved paintball and studied karate. Because of his athletic prowess and marksmanship skills honed while hunting deer, Frigo was selected to be a sniper. "I was in class with him and he used to do push-ups during passing periods," Harrison. "He was doing the push-ups because he was always trying to get stronger and better for cross country." He is survived by his parents, Maureen and Fred. "He was an all-around really nice guy," said Erica Knight, a friend.

My son, Matt Inocelda, served with Nathan, and it was Matt who told me about your loss over three years ago. I was thinking about Nathan this morning, shed tears for him and you, and want you to know how he still touches us from above. May the Lord bless you. With much love - Linda

Thank you Nathan for defending my Freedoms. It is because of great American patriots such as you that Americans continue to board airplanes with confidence and the people of this city can live without fear.

You will always be remembered with love and great pride by the grateful nation you served to protect.

Rest in peace.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nathan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

A New Angel in Heaven

I received word today
That another hero fell
While serving his country
Over there in hell

Although I never knew him
I stood behind him all the way
I sent cards, letters and e-mails
To brighten up his day

I prayed for his safety
And thought about him every day
I wondered if I would hear from him
And what he had to say

Although no letters came to me
And I never knew more than his name
He was my adopted hero
And I supported him just the same

I still think about him
This brave man I never knew
I think about his family
And what they’re going through

I know that now he is at peace
And there’s something I have faith in
There is a new angel in heaven
And his name is Nathan

LIFE...so fragile.
LOSS... so sudden.
HEART...so broken.

In the wake of such a loss, we're haunted by things we don't - and may never - understand.
Yet the solace we seek, may not come from answers.
So we look for comfort in the belief of love's everlasting
connection.

May that love lift you,

hold you close,

and give you peace.

Please accept our deepest sympathy, durring your time of sorrow & greif...We do know the depth and the sharpness of the pain you are feeling, as parents, grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunts,& cousins....draw strength from the support of the close family and friends who surround you.

if there is anything we can do, to help you, please, call(or email).

He is only five
and yet he has a dream.
He wants to be a soldier
and help to keep us free.
I know he doesn't understand
exactly what that means.
He doesn't know the price that's paid
to keep our country free.
But he is free to dream big dreams
and free to aim real high.
He is free to live his life
because someone else has paid that price.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of Pfc Nathan J. Frigo. I never met Nathan, but I will never forget him. I am also 23, and have two children. My son, age 5, stood with me and honored Nathan during the funeral procession. My son wants to be a soldier when he grows up. It is because of men and women like Pfc. Nathan J. Frigo that my children are able to dream big and succeed in life. No words can express how much I appreciate the sacrifice that our soldiers and their families make. From the deepest part of my heart, thank-you. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you abundantly because you have truly been a blessing to others.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. My name is SSG Delgado, Gabriel G. I was one of the soldiers on the funeral detail and I must say it was one of the hardest funerals I have participated it in. I felt the sorrow and the pain because I truly be believe I have lost a brother in arms. It was an honor for me to be a part of the detail and know this if I could take his place so that Nathan could be here I would gladly do so with out hesitation. Once again I am truly sorry for your loss.

I was with my sister the night we got the call from Beth. The shock and pain soon spread throughout the family as calls were made and received.

Though we know you are roaming the streets with Your Saviour and standing with those who have also lost their lives defending our great country, you will be greatly missed.

I have a military table at home with pictures of my nephews(who I consider my sons, my "boys") who are Marines. Both of them loved you as a brother as they have shared here. The table has over 15 photos of those in Iraq and other parts of our world. Some have finally returned home.

When I returned home I was saddened to have to place the first black ribbon on one of my cherished photos. It has a special place of honor in our home.

We light an antique lantern beside the photos each day. It remains lit throughout the day as a reminder to pray for those serving our country and the families and friends they left behind to "stay by the stuff" as it says in the Bible.

Though you did not get to return to your physical home dear Nate, you are home with your Father.

Rest in the arms of Jesus and know that those you left behind will never forget you.
Susanelizabeth(or as my "boys" call me, Aunt Susie)

We grew up together, were best friends and served our Country together; oh dear brother, in spirit and uniform, I solute you, and am happy that one day we will be in heaven together!

You have truely encouraged me to keep up the fight, to focus harder; pray more and longer! Seriously, everthing I do lately, whether it be working out in the gym, PT in the mornings, working on aircraft in good old Japan or even talking to others- I have been encouraged to keep doing my best! To be more grateful for those around me and cherish every moment with family! So, what do we do now, do we forever stay discouraged, or do we rise up and keep fighting the fight? We must stay strong, for my friend, you will always be my encouragement- my example as I face struggles in my life! Dear friend, this is not goodbye, because soon we will meet again! I love you- You are a hero!

My sincere condolences are extended to you from my family. Nathan meant so much to so many people. Nathan was a good kid, and a wonderful human being, I will miss his smile, his jumping out of trees, running beside your car as you left church, and running up and down the road in Arkansas. He was so much fun. We loved him. He is our Hero, and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

To the parents, grandparents and friends of Nathan: Nathan is a Patriot just as much as those who fought for Freedom with George Washington. Perhaps more so, as Nathan gave the full measure for those to live in freedom who he didn't know ... and for us as well. There is no greater love.

Nathan is a Hero, to be honored and respected by us all.

May Almighty God comfort you and hold you in His hand until you and Nathan are once again united.

Dear Beth and family,

I am struggling deeply with this loss, though I never met Nate. But this is the second friend that I have had while living overseas that has lost a sibling. And I immediately recall having lost my own brother in Jan of 1999.

Having also served in the military I find the loss of any member, any service, to be a painful experience. Yet I know what it is to sacrifice for your country (I am a 100% disabled vet). We volunteered to serve. No one made us. The risk was ours to take. All the same, one grieves at the loss. . .

My heart goes out to you as a sister who has lost a brother, as a friend grieving with a friend, as a vet and as an American. Please know that the "package deal" has made this especially difficult for me to bear over here in Korea. I am so sorry that I cannot come; if I were living in the states, I would be there. So I sent flowers. But the card is not long. And the gift not extravagent enough to express my sympathies, not rich enough to cover your loss. But it comes from the heart.

I am praying for you each day, and especially today as you receive back your precious Nate's body, draped in our nation's ensign. How incredibly difficult it was for me to look into the casket of my brother for the first time. It took me a full 15 minutes to get up the nerve to walk over there and look! What a shock; it was him, yet it was not. . .

May God's grace be rich to you in these dark days. May you feel His presence ever more each day.

Thank you for your son! What a blessing that he would VOLUNTEER for service during a time of war! Only our best ever do that!

Oh Nathan, Oh Nathan, so young I still remember your smile when you and my brother (also named Nathan) would get into trouble when I would babysit you, or when me and your older sisters would be playing and you all wanted to be involved. Your mom and sisters just left my house a month ago, showing off your pictures they had taken off you when you came home for 2 wks in July. You had grown so much. It still does not seem real. Such a baby. Bethy and Sara I greive with you and wish I was healthy enought to come to the funeral. We send my brother Nathan over to Iraq in Jan and pray for him as well. I love you all and miss you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you commit your son to our Lord and Saviour. Thank you for teaching your son to be the man of integrity and committment who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Our love and support are with you now and always as you walk through this dark valley. Remember that the Lord is there walking beside you, guarding you with his staff and leading you to the still waters and green pastures. Remember too that you will rejoice with your son again one day when you join him in heaven. We pray that you will have strength for the days ahead, and that you will experience the comfort of knowing that Nathan is with the Lord. It is God's grace alone that will sustain you; we pray that it will be poured out in abundance. Love and prayers.

Pfc. Nathan J. Frigo
you are my hero
may god keep you in his arms forever.

October 21, 2006

To the Family of Pfc. Nathan J. Frigo:
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Surely He hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrow.
