Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Michael L. Starr Jr. US Marine Lance Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

In a little more than a week it will be 4 years. I look back on it and it seems like both ages ago and yesterday.
I know, like you, I do not go a day without thinking not only of my son but of all those that died that day.
I also think about those that did not that day and the feelings that they may have for surviving and going on with their lives.
I’m sorry that I have never written before. I guess it was not my time to do so.
Out of all that died that day I only knew Mike, but they were all brothers and because of that, they were all, my son’s.
The tears that I shed for him I shed for all.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I did not know Michael, but as a senior editor on the newspaper at Perry Hall High when we got word of his death, I was asked to cover it for the paper. I got to know Michael through teachers and faculty members at school, and writing that story helped me choose my path of journalism. Now, as a college sophomore, I often think about Michael and feel a strong connection to him even though I never met him. I only wish that I had had that honor. Even almost two years later, I know it has to be difficult and my prayers are constantly with your family. I am always thinking about Michael, especially since high school friends of mine are now serving in the Marines in Iraq as well.
All my prayers and best wishes...

I wish to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your son and brother, Michael. Even after more than a year, you must be grieving. But please know that fallen heroes are never forgotten.
I live in Lynchburg, VA. Over the Fourth of July weekend, Lynchburg held a tribute to all those who died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001,"The Soldier's Healing Field". Displayed were 2,847 flags each of which had a yellow bow with the name of a soldier, branch of service and when and where they died. Citizens could sponsor a flag. Michael's name was on the flag my grandson and I sponsored.
I would like to share some of the memorabilia from that weekend with you - Michael's yellow ribbon, tag, articles and pictures. If you would like to have them, please email or write to me.
The opening and closing ceremonies touched everyone's hearts. Many people visited the Field during the three days it was on display. My grandson and I are remembering Michael and your family in our prayers. God bless you all!

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Michael Starr, Ms. Robin Starr, and Jennifer,
May I offer my condolences to you all upon the passing of your American hero son and brother in Iraq in late January.
Please know that other Americans share in your loss and are concerned. May God continue to grant you all an extra measure of peace, comfort and strength during this difficult time.
May Michael's legacy of bravery and devotion to our country and its safety be a source of pride to your family, an inspiratation to his peers and forever remembered by a grateful nation.
Michael's sacrifice is not unlike those Marylanders of old who gave their all for freedom's sake in places with such names as Guilford Court House, Cerro Gordo, Sharpsburg, Ardenne Forest, Iwo Jima, Inchon, and Khe Sahn. He truly was "Siemper Fi"!

It has been many years since Michael and I have been together. Young teenage kids we were. It's funny how our lives have dramatically changed since we've last seen each other. I was 15 and he was 13. Now we're both veterans of the war in Iraq. Michael has given something that most wouldn't - his life. I can only imagine the pain that his family must be feeling right now, but just know that your son, brother, cousin - or whatever Michael was to you - he is in peace. And where he is now, there is no war, or fighting, or worrying whether or not he will live to see tomorrow. He is now in Eternity with the Lord. I know that doesn't sound like much when people are grieving. To the Starr family: you are in my deepest thoughts and prayers. I hope that Michael has made you proud and that everyone, including non-family members understand the importance of freedom and what it costs. With Deepest Sympathy, SPC Stacey M. Wells, U.S. Army

Mike & Linda, Gosh, where do I begin. Man, Mike, its hard to believe that I am actually writing this for you guys. I remember on New Year's how proud you and Linda were of Mike and how you guys were counting the days until he came home. You both voiced fears and worries, too. But your eyes just lit up when you talked about him. Who knew things would end up this way? You know my heart was broken for you when Antoinette called me. How I wish I could have been there for at least a little support and maybe even a little comfort, even though comfort was the last thing you must've felt. Please know, Mike and Linda that you have a very special son but God must have bigger plans for him now. Always will he be in your hearts as well as the american people. Ant told me how the people came out for the funeral, it made me cry. Your days now will seem so long and dark but will eventually begin to lighten. Know this, your son will be the one shining down on you all to bring in the light again. Take care of each other, remember I love you guys and although I'm miles away am always thinking of you. Much love and sympathy, Shelley, Ken & Bryan.

I did not know Michael, nor do I know any of you. But having lost a 15 year old daughter, unexpectedly, two years ago, I felt compelled to write in Michael's guestbook. I know the pain and anguish that you are going through. I will not tell you time heals all pain, because it doesn't. Just know that Michael is now your personal guardian angel. You ALL will be together again.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, as you begin this healing process.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Wanda Wesko

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your son, Michael. I know you are very proud of him. We are very proud of him. He was doing a very noble thing -- liberating Iraq and the Iraqi people. With the success of the elections and to see the joy of the Iraqi people on their way to the pools, Michael did not die in vain. He is part of history now as one of the great American liberators. I will keep you and Michael in my prayers. Semper Fi!

I just wanted to extend my deepest simpathy to your family. I do not know your family but my brother David Bedsworth was a good friend of Mike's when they where about 13 years old. I have so many great memories of them hanging out together doing what 13 year olds do. You must be so proud of him and his decision to serve his country. I am sorry that his life was cut so short.
Yor family will be in my heart and prayers.

WELL, I WENT TO THE FUNERAL AND IT WAS VERY HARD TO DO. I LOVED WHEN THE FAMILY WENT UP AND SPOKE. THE HARDEST WAS TO SAY GOODBYE AND TO STOP CRYING. I NEED TO WISH THE FAMILY AND JEN THE BEST. WHEN WE WERE DRIVING OUT OF THE FUNERAL HOME I COULD NOT HELP BUT TO BREAK DOWN AGAIN AND CRY TO SEE ALL THE PEOPLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SHOWING THERE RESPECT AND CRYING. MIKE WAS A HERO TO ME AND MANY OTHERS.HE MAKE'S ME FEEL THAT I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WITH MY LIFE AND HE MADE ME WANT TO GET UP AND MAKE MYSELF AND FAMILY PROUD SO NOW I WILL STARTED TO THINK ABOUT MY FUTURE TO SEE HOW MY LIFE CAN BE AS GREAT AND PROUD AS HIS. MIKE I SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU VERY NIGHT.

Robin and Family,
I went to Michael's funeral today and was amazed at the love and respect not only from friends and family but from strangers on the street. I know I sobbed while driving in the procession today, not from saddness, but from what I saw on the streets, the people who showed their respect for Michael. All I could think about was you in the front car and how proud you must feel. He died with honor and it showed in him today. He was there with us all. God bless you Robin and you may call me anytime to talk.

It is a great priviledge to live in a country that bares men the caliber of your Son and Brother. It is great sadness and pride when a fellow Marine is laid to rest. I honor L/Cpl Starrs sacrifice, and that of you, his family. The ranks have thined here, but God has gained a valient worrior.

I served as Michael's Company Executive Officer and Commanding Officer while he served in India Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines. I remember him as a strong, resilient young man that enjoyed a challenge and excelled where others stumbled. God certainly favors the Marine Corps by blessing us with such exceptional people like him.
My heart and prayers go out to the family and loved ones that helped make Michael such a special person. May God bless you all.

I had only met Lcpl Starr a few times. He was in Towson's Recruiting Station when I decided to join. From what I saw and knew of him he seemed to be an outstanding youngman. He will be missed by many and remembered by all whom he served with. Lcpl Thomas.

The Starr Family,
Im so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. Mike is such an awesome guy! I say IS because I truely beleive that he is still alive and well, just in a different but better place. I find so much comfort in knowing that he is up there with Larry and im sure they are as crazy as ever! Just trust that God has a reason for this and a bigger and better plan for him. I had some good laughs with Mike and there will always be a place for him in my heart. May he rest in peace and God bless you all! Just remember that you will all be reunited again one day.

My deepest regards to the family of Michael Starr. I was able to see Mike grow when I was a recruiter their in Towson. I still remember how excited and proud we were when I gave the departure brief to leave to boot camp. I then got stationed with Mike this last year in 1/3. I am honored to have served with him here in Iraq. He will always be a hero of mine.
