Lincoln D. Hollinsaid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Army Staff Sgt. Lincoln Hollinsaid was working for a construction company when he decided to join the Army. The 1993 Princeton High School graduate joined the Army in 1995 and was sent to the Middle East as an engineer in January 2003. "His main concern was that the young soldiers under him were trained properly," said his father, Dan Hollinsaid. "He wanted to take care of them." He said his son loved two things â€" the military and the outdoors, where he fished, hunted and four-wheeled. Hollinsaid, 27, of Malden, Ill., and based at Fort Stewart, Ga., was killed April 7.

Hello,

We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We are sending Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Lincoln D. Hollinsaid US Army Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Once in a while in our lives, a change happens, it may big, it may be small. Whatever the size, this change, makes a big difference in our lives. Sometimes this change comes in the form of another person. Lincoln was that change, he brought laughter, compassion, honor to his country, and most of all, he brought love. Today we salute Lincoln, not because its the right thing to do, not because of some regulation that allows us to, but because he stood his ground and said nothing is going to happen to you tonight. He served his country well and provided the blanket of freedom that we sleep under every night. We love you Lincoln and you are truely missed.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,100 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

Dear Family of Lincoln D. Hollinsaid,

You don't know me, but for the past 5 years I have worn a KIA bracelet with your son's name on my right hand.

His ultimate sacrifice to our country brings me to the most sincere reverence. From knowning of his courage and "story and the glory" from information online, I know he was a great person.

I can't tell you the number of times that just looking at his name has brought me courage and inspiration. Though I never had the honor of knowing him, he is in my thoughts often.

God bless you and Lincoln most of all.

With Deepest Regards,

1LT Vivek Sahani

Linc, I miss you brother, fishing just isn't as much fun anymore. Who else would believe my tall tales and match it with a better one. No-one can measure the number of lives you touched, and saved. Me and boys still tell the stories, you are forever in our hearts. I'm proud to have been your friend and saddened by your sacrifice. Keep smiling down, until we meet again.

Lincoln and I were stationed together in Ft Irwin, CA. I remember him as always being a joker, but most of all he was a great soldier and a great man. He will be missed dearly. Thank you, Lincoln for your faithful service. God Bless.

Dear family of Staff Sgt. Lincoln D. Hollinsaid,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Staff Sgt Hollinsaid. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Staff Sgt Hollinsaid knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Staff Sgt Hollinsaid!

Lincoln worked on my father's farm shortly before joining the army. I will never forget the look of pride that he had when he told my Dad he was joining. I can only imagine how much his family misses him. I will pray for them and pray for his collegues who are still over there.

To the Hollinsaid family,
Please know that just as your loved one will forever remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Lincoln, but he is my hero.

I Will Show You the Way

Linc no one knew what could happen
as you left to go to war
Did you know that I loved you
As I hugged you and sent you on your way

Now I look at your picture
sitting in the window and wonder
Do you know that I love you
And the light is lit to show the way

The letters are to slow
So I pray to God
To tell you I love you
God answers through Baghdad he will find his way

I dreamed you walked through the gates of heaven
and Jesus whispered
Do you know that HE loves you
Then Jesus said "COME"
And I will show you the way

Love Dad

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
