Chad L. Keith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
When Sgt. Chad L. Keith was talking with Army recruiters, friends could hardly tear him away. "Most people join the Army because they want money for college or something, but he was really happy to be in the Army. He wanted it to be his career," said close friend Kirt Collier. "I understand why he went over there. It was something he was passionate about ... I just wish he was still here." Keith, 21, of Batesville, Ind., was killed July 7 when a roadside bomb exploded as his unit patrolled the streets of Baghdad. Keith's death came just 26 days before he was to be promoted from specialist to sergeant _ and a few days after he spoke to his mother by telephone. Kim Hitzges said her son told her he was hot and tired but willing to stay in Iraq "until the job was done."

Although I never had the privilege of meeting you, I did have the honor of placing a flag upon your headstone in Arlington National Cemetary. Call it fate that drew me to your memorial, but I believe God wanted me to lay my flag at your grave so that I could try to learn all that I could about you. I can see from the hundreds of messages from loved ones that you were an amazing friend, brother, uncle, and hero. I would like to thank you for your bravery and selfless-ness and for the ultimate sacrifice you made while protecting our country. My only regret is that I couldn't thank you in person or at least shake your hand. I wish you an eternity of peace, and please know that you will be on my mind and in my heart as a role model and a goal for me that I may one day become half of the person you were. Thank you so much Sgt. Chad Lynn Keith, God bless you, your family and friends, and America.

I think about the patrol when you were taken from us every day. That night changed my life forever. As heartbroken as I still am, I can only imagine how your family must feel. Rest In Peace Airborne you will never be forgotten.

In Memory of Chad Lynn Keith ~ (Debra Estep)

July 7, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Chad, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

today is the 4th of july and while most people are drinkin beer over a BB-Q looking at fireworks, my thoughts will be with you and the true meaning of independence day. I remember our last one, we all looked to the sky realizing the symbolizm of fireworks as the tracer rounds flew over our heads and the thunderous boom of the I.E.D.'s trembled the ground beneth us just down the road,we all thought about home and how its so much better with a beer in your hand,
and you said "At least were all saving money on fireworks this year". we laughed, its that kinda of humor that i miss the most. you'll never be forgotten buddy this holiday and your name have merged in my heart forever. my prayers go out to your family today, we all miss you . god bless.

Chad, Hey Babe! I miss you so much! My life has been stressful lately but knowing you are by my side helps me get through these tough times! I still have that scar from 2000 Field Day when we were messing around and your shoe cut my knee. Funny how something so small can remind someone of so much! My thoughts and prayers and with you and yours always! Thanks for being the best friend anyone could ask for! I miss you and love you, Chad, FOREVER AND ALWAYS!!!

I didn't personally know you or your family, but saw this terrible news online and felt compelled to say something! - Thank you for your service to our country and keeping me and my family safe, secure and free - You paid the ultimate price for my freedom with your life and I am forever grateful - A simple thank you seems so little at a time like this - I pray for the family and friends you left behind and hope that they can somehow find peace at this very difficult time - God Bless you and all who knew you.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Keith family in the loss of Chad. I did not know Chad, but my heart is broken and I am saddened for your loss of such a fine young person and hero. May God bring you peace in your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten. While I was at Arlington National Cemetery I stopped by and spent time with Chad and prayed

I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

Love and Peace
