Christopher G. Nason Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Chief Warrant Officer Christopher G. Nason was a superb leader who was an expert linguist and able to accomplish any mission given him, said his battalion commander, Lt. Col. Mark Costello. Nason, a member of the 306th Military Intelligence Battalion, excelled in highly stressful environments, Costello said. The 39-year-old from Los Angeles was killed Nov. 23 when his vehicle was struck by a civilian tanker truck in northern Iraq. He was based at Fort Huachuca. Nason was in charge of the unmanned aerial vehicle section of the New Systems Training and Integration Office. He is survived by a sister.

Chris, my cousin my friend. Thinking about our greatest times as kids... I see the scars I got under my armpit when we were racing bikes around the backyard planter at your Van Nuys house. so long ago...I remember when unkle and auntie were so amazed that I didn't ever cry even at the hospital. ..Yet today the tears flow as I realize the pain of the many different people and Brave Soldiers that have so many scars from war. A great loss to every American, your sister and our family. I'm wiping my tears ; and Thanking you for every scar you have healed by your ultimate sacrifice. You'll always be in my thoughts and ideas for how to build a better UAV... hopefully we'll be able to get together and soar with the angels and some cool new UAV'S that your high quality schooling and intelligence have created someday.
Love and PEACE !

Thank you Chris for hosting my wife and I when we arrived at our first overseas duty station at Iraklion Air Station Crete Greece. You took it upon yourself to make us feel welcome and you even stocked up our fridge at the hotel. You will always be remembered.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Nason. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that CWO2 Nason knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Chief Warrant Officer 2 Nason!

CWO2 Nason was my branch chief at Fort Gordon; he repeatedly stuck his neck out there to stick up for us and he always listened to the words and advice of his NCOs, which are the marks of a true leader. He was a good man and he will be missed.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
