Ruben Valdez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
When Lance Cpl. Ruben Valdez Jr. returned to his hometown last fall to marry a childhood playmate, the residents of San Diego, Texas, gave him a parade, cheering him as he rode in the back of a convertible. "He was always behaved, had a lot of friends _ just a pleasant boy to be around," said Luis Pizzini, the principal of San Diego High School, where Valdez graduated in 2001. He remembered the Marine as a "respectful young man" and "an excellent son." The 21-year-old was killed April 17 in a hostile attack in Iraq''s Anbar province. He was stationed at Twentynine Palms, Calif. School secretary Connie Perez remembered how, as a first-grader, Valdez was too shy to step off the school bus unless she held his hand. "Ruben was just a sweet, goodhearted boy," said Lala Perez, whose daughter went to school with the Marine. Valdez grew up on the same block as Army Spc. Jose Amancio Perez III, killed May 28 in a convoy ambush. The childhood friends were buried steps apart.

In Memory of Rubin ( Debra Estep )

April 17, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Rubin, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

Sincerely,

Debra Estep ~ Ohio

I didn't personally know you or your family, but saw this terrible news online and felt compelled to say something! - Thank you for your service to our country and keeping me and my family safe, secure and free - You paid the ultimate price for my freedom with your life and I am forever grateful - A simple thank you seems so little at a time like this - I pray for the family and friends you left behind and hope that they can somehow find peace at this very difficult time - God Bless you and all who knew you

The price Lance Cpl. Ruben Valdez and the Valdez family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten. Please know how Deeply Sorry I was to learn of the loss of this Brave Young Marine.

There will Never be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

May you find peace in knowing the love and memories you have of, will remain in your heart forever and that this Country Remembers Ruben's Sacrifice.

Treasure this hero Lord, in Your Garden of Rest,
for while here on earth, he was one of our best.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the parents of Ruben Valdez, Our condolences, Ruben was my daughter's Lisa Anna Arredondo classmate until the 8th grade. Lisa has fond memories of Ruben and their classmates. We are honored to have known a hero. When we heard of his passing, we could not believe it. Lisa was in Conneticut and could not make down(she felt really bad about that). Your family have been in our prayers. May God Bless You
