Humayun S.M. Khan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Humayun S.M. Khan, who hoped to become a military lawyer one day, enjoyed taking responsibility for others and keeping the peace. "Whenever I was upset, he always found the right words. He always calmed me down," said his girlfriend, Irene Auer. "He was perfect. He was the most wonderful person I've ever met." As his father, Khizr Khan, recalls, "He was always a peacemaker, always seeing an opportunity to give. He always said to the Iraqis, 'We're here not to hurt you but to help you.' " Khan, 27, of Bristow, Va., died June 8 in a suicide car bombing at the main gates of his base. He was stationed in Germany. He had tried to reassure his parents that he was safe, despite the frequent attacks on his base. "Whenever I talked to him, I started to cry," said his mother, Ghazala Khan. "He always said to me, 'Don't worry. I'm safe.' " Khan was born in the United Arab Emirates and moved to Maryland at age 2. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 2000.

Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Humayun S.M. Khan US Army Captain.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Your son is an American hero. I would be honored to dedicate a granite paver in his honor and memory here at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus GA (outside Ft. Benning). If you read this, would you mind contacting me? I would like for you to have a say as to what goes on the paver.

Mr and Mrs Khan raised a fine young man who showed courage and dedication throughout his life. He wasn't granted the gift of long years on earth, but it's very clear that he made a difference, to everyone he met and I think that he would be very, very proud of the courage of his parents who stood up to a bully and showed themselves to be honorable, patriotic and good. America is fortunate to have people like Mr and Mrs Khan and they have earned respect from decent people the world over. Their loss was, and remains, great but they have shown the world what it means to be patriots. With all respect to Captain Khan and his parents - we thank you.

I am a Canadian and I was in Iraq about the same time as Capt. Khan, in Tikrit and Baghdad. We lost four colleagues in my time there.
Capt. Khan is a hero and I feel for him as I do for the ones we lost who I knew. I wish I did not understand, but I do and that is there forever.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Khan,

Americans like your son are the reason I continue to be proud of my country. Thank you for your sacrifice. It is very much appreciated. May you find comfort in knowing how much we all honor your precious son.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Khan,

Your son, a beautiful young man, died fighting for American ideals. Your speech and OP Ed may be the one critical element that allows our nation to move forward after this contentious election. We'll see. But if this happens, know that your son and you defended the basic principles of the American Experience. You are blessed in your eloquence and your son's memory is for a blessing. Thank you for coming forward and demanding the best in each of us.

To the parents of Captain Khan.....

Thank you for your words of truth and eloquence. Thank you for speaking truth to power and God bless you and your family.

I wept as you spoke at the Democratic Convention and cheered your question to Donald Trump. You were spot on...just magnificent.

I stand with you. I send my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your wonderful son. He made the world a better place because he was raised right, as we say here in the South.

You will always be remembered for your courage and for your devotion to your son and to your country.

With respect and admiration from a fellow American.

Capt. Kahn is a person of courage, heroism, graciousness, and the epitome of an American hero.

He came from a country of devotion. And selflessly dedicated his life to save the lives of others, and i will honor him, and his family in prayer. 0:'(

I have never met your family personally - however seeing them at the DNC and in a follow up interview I know their hearts must be the most pure of any human I have experienced. As a parent and an American I found myself crying for their great loss and amazed at their strength and perseverance. If only more had their wisdom... I grieve for the loss of your place in this world - with parents like that your future impact on this world would have continued to have benefit all.

Rest in Peace, Capt.Khan. Watch over us as you walk among the ancestors. Help guide our steps as we walk a path in fellowship and peace. You are loved, you are honored and your memory lives on.

July 29, 2016

If it had not been for your father's brave and powerful speech last night at the DNC, your death would have never come to light for me. As the parent of a son, Marine LCpl Jordan Haerter, who also lost his life fighting for this country I offer my sincere and belated condolences to your family and friends. It is obvious to me that your faith and service were well taught to you by your parents and they should be very proud to call you their son.

May you always rest in your deserved peace Capt. Khan.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I served with your son, (CPT KHAN ) at FOB Warhorse. I worked directly for him at the Main Gate. He was a very kind and generous man. One of the best Commanding Officers I had ever worked for or met. He will always be remembered & never be forgotten.
If tears could build a stairway,

Father we entrust our brother Humayun to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Humayun in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

To the family of Capt. Khan,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you.

In Memory of Humayun ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Humayun, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

August 9, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
