Christopher A. Wagener Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Even at war, Christopher A. Wagener had a knack for making people smile. "He always had so much enthusiasm," said Cpl. Stephanie Steele, who knew him for three years. "I never saw him sad. He was always, always happy no matter what." Wagener, 24, of Fairview Heights, Ill., was killed when a land mine or roadside bomb detonated near his Humvee in Mosul, Iraq, on July 1. He was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y. Wagener entertained his family and friends with far-fetched stories. He had a love for the outdoors _ especially kayaking. At his funeral, a bright orange and yellow kayak was propped against the wall, towering over the casket. He joined the Army just a few weeks after graduating from high school, and served as a helicopter mechanic. He re-enlisted in January so that other men with more to lose might not have to, said his sister, Michelle Friederich. "He said he''s single and has no kids, and if he can save one father from going over (to Iraq), he''d do it," Friederich said. He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Dani Wagener.

Mr and Mrs Wagener, Many years have gone by since I last saw your son. We were in Iraq together. I have wanted to share a few words with you which I hope can add peace to you that only God could do. I remember our Captain saying, "John, I have to write to his family" I remember the distress on his face, the loss...Now, my son is soon to delpoy this winter so I pray and I have Hope in Christ. The day your son passed from this earth it was aweful hot in Iraq, July in Iraq was like a forced air furnace. But please let me share, after I learned of Christopher's passing I was walking back to the HQ, I prayed "Heavenly Father welcome your child home, forgive his sins and have open arms for this warrior Father" Christopher and I were not close or buddies but were were defenders of a great nation, I did not know if Christopher was saved nor did many know I was, but sir, ma'am, when I said that prayer the coolest breeze blew into my face and cooled my body and soul. I knew our Heavenly Father smiled for His will is that not one soul shall perish, amen. Your son is remembered and honored by many, we do not forget our fallen. Today I am a Man of God and I am called to do the Lord's work. I still share with our service members and whosoever shall hear the Good News. Please accept my and my families condolences for your loss. There are only the best memories of your son, I could only imagine. He is a spirit of Joy. May God bless you and keep you forever. Respectfully, John CW3 USA retired ([email protected])

I was deeply sadened to hear about your loss. I hadn't seen him in many years but he was a great kid when I knew him. I know that he loved his family and had a good heart. I just found out in November 2009 and this is the first time learning of the details. I'm sure that he did his family and country proud. I will continue to pray for all of you and hope that you are joined with him again one day. God bless you all and may life be good to you.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Wagener,

I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Words and emotions can begin to tell the emotions felt over the loss of this wonderful man. He and I were roommates in Iraq, and he is always remembered.

He was the person that lightened the hearts during those hot summer days and cold winter nights. There was never a job to tough for him, nor a job that he would not volunteer for.

July 1st was one of the toughest days in your lives, and for that he will never be forgotten. This Memorial Day he is honored his sacrifice for this country.

Respectfully and Sincerely,
Edward McDonald

Dear Family of Sgt. Christopher A. Wagener,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

In Memory of Christopher Allen ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

SGT Wagener was one of the best Soldiers I have seen in my 16 years. It was a sincere honor to serve with him at Fort Drum and over in Iraq. I can honestly say that SGT Wagener was a true leader who would always put soldiers first,he was a true professional who loved being a soldier. Peace be with you Sergeant...

We can only go to them now and one day we will. Sgt. Wagener, You will never be just another name on the wall. God Bless America.

Words can't express our sadness at learning of your terrible loss. From the picture that was printed in the paper, he grew to be a handsome young man since we last saw him as a pre-teen. Michelle, our hearts go out to you and your family in this very tragic time, but you know that Chris was doing what he wanted to do and was happy and fulfilled in his career. He paid the ultimate price for our freedom and for this we are eternally grateful. God bless!

i went to high school with chris and was in his graduating class. He was a wonderful person and a great friend.Chris' passing gave me a new perspective on life. It made see a lot of the stuff we take for granted. I new what was happening in the middle east but it never really hit me. If Chris were here Id tell him how proud of him I am and thank for defending my freedoms.I wrote a short poem the night I found out........

---come to me in a dream tonight.

please tell me that you are all right.

Tell me that you are not in pain.

Tell me you didnt die in vain.

Tell me we'll see each other in heaven, again one day,

and everything will be okay.

Then I will tell you you are loved and will be missed so,

and in my heart I will never let you go.

Ill tell you of the lives you've touched and how good you were of a friend,

that memories of you will never end.

then I'll be able to sleep without a fight,

to know I got to talk to you one last night---

Chris i miss you and ill see you again one day. Thank you for being my friend.

I want to express my sympathies to the family and friends of Chris Wagener. I was a classmate in grade school and high school as well as live right down the street from him. He was a great person and friend. I was home with my children and saw the news last night, I just didn't know what to think. I am just proud that he died in such an admirable way, serving our country. He will be deeply missed. I also want to thank his parents, you did a fantastic job raising such a great man. Again, my deepest sympathies to the family and other friends. May you all keep your dreams vivid and remember him always. He soars above us now.
