Brandon T. Titus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Brandon T. Titus often stood in the turret of a Humvee as a machine gunner. He knew that made him a target, but he also knew what would happen if he chose not to do it. "Then one of my buddies is going to go up there. And if he gets hit that is going to be on my conscience," he told a local news station before shipping out to Iraq. That reaction didn''t surprise Titus'' football coach, who praised his character and work ethic. "He was always sticking up for the underdog." Titus, 20, of Boise, Idaho, died Aug. 17 in Baghdad in an explosion near his checkpoint. He was based at Fort Drum, N.Y. Titus graduated high school in 2002. He joined the Army on a delayed entry program, staying in Boise to work as a volunteer football coach. He wrote a letter to his father, Tom Titus, to be opened only upon his death. "Before I could take all the freedoms and liberty this country has granted, I had to earn them," he wrote. "I don''t see any greater honor than giving my life for my country, my family and my friends."

To Tom, Libby & Brandon's mom, Debbie...

Just wanted you all to know, on Monday you were in our hearts & minds, we lifted you up in prayers, as we once again remember Brandon's life, service & ultimate sacrifice.

We were out of town, otherwise I would have written that day, but, I want you to know, we constantly pray for you all & we will NEVER foget Brandon, for he touched our hearts from Heaven above & we will strive to honor his life by telling all we come in contact with, about this HERO!

May God hold him in HIS loving arms, forever & may HE keep you all in His tender care, until you meet again!

Libby, I know Brandon will guide you through this life, and, having lost my cousin in Vietnam at about the same age you were when Brandon was KIA, I can only say that I will continue to pray for you & your life, and, I do...daily! I know you'll make him proud!

Sorry we couldn't make the ride this year, but, we hope to be back in Boise next year to help & honor Brandon's legacy of service & ultimate sacrifice.

God be with you all...

In HIS service,

Tom Titus SGT US Army (Retired)

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Spc Titus. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Spc Titus knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Spc Titus.

Remembering Brandon...

Dear Tom, Libby, Debbie, and, family & friends...

Today, you are all heavy on our hearts & our prayers go up for you all, as we remember Brandon & his life, service & sacrifice.

We are not able to take away your pain & loss, but, perhaps you'll feel some comfort in knowing...we will "NEVER FORGET" .

Brandon lives in our hearts, daily.

And, everywhere we perform, the song his memory inspired...is one of the most requested songs by our soldiers & vets.

This past May, Larry & I were in Washington, D.C. for Rolling Thunder...our first time.

I couldn't help but think of you Tom, your love for motorcycles, and, Brandon's ride...and, Brandon's song...

He's with the Lord now, waiting...and, like the song says.... the Lord is saying ...

"You, Me & Brandon ... will ride the breeze ... we'll have forever, to make memories!"

I Truly, firmly BELIEVE that Tom...one day ... you WILL see Brandon again, in Heaven... and, you will have FOREVER to make memories!

Keep the FAITH!

As a mom of a wounded soldier, and, coming from a family who's lost a loved one in war (my cousin SP4 Guy Lamar Mears, Jr. - KIA - Vietnam).... I owe everything, all the freedoms I've enjoyed in my life...to men & women like yourself, Brandon & ALL those who've stepped forward to protect & extend Freedom to the world.

On behalf of a grateful nation, my deep appreciation, and, heartfelt condolences ...

May God be with you & your family ... and, keep you in HIS tender care, 'til you meet again.

In HIS service & in HONOR of our HEROES,

Susan D. Wiseman - " The Tribute Lady "

Hey there bubba...
I just wanted to write and say hi
I thought about you alot yesterday and I cried...I wrote to you... I just wanted to let you know I miss you and I love you. You ARE MY HERO.
I've been thinking lately... You would be so proud of me and happy for me for the new steps I have taken in my life. I have been in a relationship for a year now, and I know you would accept him and everything! I finally followed my heart, Peejay and I now live in Fayettevill north carolina. I bought my first car, you would totally dig it! Everyday I sit in it I thank you for it for I know where it came from and I know the pain and hurt I've gone through to get it. I would become piss poor just to have you back... Im going to finish up schooling and do my dream...ill be going to cosmetology school sometime soon i hope. I miss you brandon. You'd be proud...and I'm still going to live my life making you proud.. Because thats all that matters is just making you proud no one else. I love you.

Brandon we are on the 3rd Ann. Brandon Titius Memorial Ride. Your memory along with all the other soldiers who gave their life for our freedom. I am proud to stand with your dad in your honor. Look down and watch the ride and know its in your memory.

July 27, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Son;

It has been 2 years since your passing, but at times it seems like only yesterday. You are my Hero...Forever my Son! I am the Proudest Dad and I hope I can live up to the standard you've set. I only guided you thru life as a dad and a combat veteran, you achieved so much more on your own!

I was to be the last military combat veteran in our family, but you stepped up to carry on! I am so Proud of you, it helps to ease the pain I carry. I miss you calling me 'old man'..we had that special bond, not many fathers & sons have that. We will continue to have 'our visits' every Friday, as I know you'll watch over me, until we meet again.

Love you Son...from the 'old man'
