Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Alexander E. Wetherbee US Marine 1st Lieutenant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Amazing how few people you meet in this life that make such an impression that is never forgotten. Alex was one of those people. Just sitting here on a random Saturday evening with my wife his name comes up and we reminisce on what a fantastic and unique person he was. 20+ years since we last shared a laugh and a story and somehow spirit is still here with us like we just spoke yesterday. Grateful that we got the opportunity to know you Alexander Edmund.
Fair winds and Following seas. Till we meet again friend.

I was a nurse in Baghdad who cared for the LT when he came into the EMT section of the 31st CSH in 2004. Id like to connect with his family as he stands out in my memory and I’d like to offer any closure to the family if desired

Alex,
Just wanted to drop a line and say hello. I got to work with J in Africa this month and we spent some time talking about you. I figure you're aware already and most likely making sure we're taken care of. Thanks.

The Ultimate Sacrifice
Because of you
we can get up every morning
and go to work
run errands at lunch time
drive through McDonald’s
fill up our gas tanks
and make it back to work
just in time
Because of you
we don’t have houses
we have homes
where we walk through the door
the dog jumps on us
as do our children
we hug our spouses
and smell dinner cooking
Because of you
we have artwork from Kindergarten
and shopping lists
hanging on the refrigerator
along with pictures held up with tape or magnets
school pictures, pictures of gramma and grampa
pictures of babies, kittens, and teenagers
dressed for the prom
Because of you
we gather around the dinner table
play in the backyard with our kids
feed the cat, walk the dog
splash water on our children in the tub
then tuck them into bed with hugs and kisses
and reassurance there are no monsters
in closets or under beds
Because of you
with the children asleep
and the dishes all done
men make love to their wives
wives make love to their husbands
and drift off to sleep intertwined
feeling life is good, all is well
and we are safe
Because of you
we are safe
we can sit in fields watching our kids play soccer
or in the stands watching our kids play hockey
we can grill hamburgers and hot dogs
eat potato salad and cole slaw
drink ice cold beer
and play pool while the kids run through sprinklers
Because of you
we must remember
to have a moment of silence on Memorial Day
to remember your sacrifice
and your family’s
and to thank you that we get to live these lives
sometimes eventful, sometimes uneventful
but always full of possibilities
Because of you

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of 1st Lt Wetherbee. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish strength and peace to everyone affected by this tragic loss. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you 1st Lt Wetherbee.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Alexander, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Mr. Wetherbee,
I spoke with you this evening about an event in Topeka, KS called The Reading taking place on June 14th. As I mentioned, I'll be reading your son's name. Thank you for the time you took to speak with me. When I say Alex's name I'll also picture that big smile of his. There are no words to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I thank your son for his service to our country. Please know he hasn't been forgotten. He's not a statistic or a name from a piece of paper I'll be Reading from - he's a patriot and a hero. And we owe him. My condolences and peace to you and your family.

You are, and forever will be missed. I enjoyed working for... In my 17 years as an Amtracker and U.S. Marine you are one of the few platoon commanders that I have served with that truly balanced a friendly commaraderie with your Marines and rallied immediate adherence to orders in combat... There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Alex's family,
My name is Brandon Barton and I knew and lived with Alex (as well as Heather) for quite a while in the CNR house at the University of Idaho where we all did our undergrads. The news of his passing still chills me frequently. I'm happy to still have a wool jacket that Alex gave me long ago. It's an ugly purple thing that I almost threw out, but now I wear it frequently and think of Alex. I wish you all the best.

I did not know Alex, but I did his wonderful Aunt Louise Wetherbee Phelps. Louise was a mentor to me for a very long time and when I lost my daughter on September 11th, Louise was more a heavenly angel than a mentor. How horrible that she lost Alex only three years later.
I wish you all healing times and some joy along with your grief.
Sending loving thoughts,

My heartfelt sympathy to the Wetherbee family in the loss of Alexander. I did not know Alexander, but my heart is broken and I am saddened for your loss of such a fine young person and hero. May God bring you peace in your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten. While I was at Arlington National Cemetery visiting other fallen heroes I stopped and visited Alexander's burial place and prayed.
I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

Harry and Doris,
Our thoughts are with you during this very tough time. Although we didn't personally know Alex, he sounds like he must have been a wonderful guy based on all the nice things we have heard about him from mutual friends. As a former Marine, I have nothing but the greatest admiration for Alex and his sacrifice on behalf of our great country and the Corps. Knowing you Harry and all the great things you have done for our Agency and country, it was no surprise to learn that your two sons have been serving in the Marines and Navy. Your family has certainly done much more than your "share" for our country and for that all of the rest of us are deeply indebted. We hope your best memories of Alex will help you and Heather to endure his loss and make you smile again in the future. All our best, Glenn and Ellen Adams
