I still remember and always will. CPL Cunningham and I served in the 545th MP Co., 1st CAV, together. He took care of a young SPC then and still takes care of an old CW5. RIP SSG! RIP!

Father we entrust our brother Darren to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Darren in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Darren, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My heart felt condolences to the Cunningham family. I served with Darren in the 545th MP Co. 1st Cav Division at Fort Hood, Texas. We were in 2nd platoon together. I remember all the good times we had together on patrol and in the field. I never got a chance to serve with Darren in combat but I would have gladly been right there by his side. He was a good soldier, and squad leader. Every time I think about him I break down in tears. Darren I will miss you. May God bless you forever.

I had the pleasure of knowing him we meet at FT Hood and in fact I helped him wash his TA 50 before he left. He was so proud of his country and a great funny guy. I was so lucky to know him.

I am a 1990 graduate of Groton Dunstable , and knew Darren from when he was a volunteer coach for our middle school basketball team. He set an example of how to work hard in practice that I am sure carried over to his military career. Thank you for the time that you spent in the gym with us, and more importantly, thank you for your service.

I never got to meet Darren personally, but he received several letters and care packages through me. His kind words of appreciation and his jokes here and there are something I will always cherish. Like I said even though I never knew him personally, he really had a big heart.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

My heart goes to the Cunningham family..
I lost my wife of 18 years in the 9/11 attacks.. She was a passenger on AAL11. The first plane to hit the North Tower..
All I would like to do is thank all these young men..
Darren was fighting to avenge my wife's death, and to keep other families from having to endure such heart-breaking agony as was so brutaly thrust on my family..
I so totaly admire, and respect these men who stand up for us, the USA.
I share your grief, but you should be so proud of Darren, and know that there are at least 100 families in Mass., who really take his participation in the war on terror, very personal..
Again, I am so sorry.

Darren soon it will be 19 months since you were taken. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten.
I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

First of all, My sincere condolences to the Cunningham Family. I too share the pain that yall are going through. I was stationed with Darren in Korea, and he was my roommate with 728th MP BN at Camp Henry. We share so many good times and laughs together. We always sat around in the evenings and talk about our families and shared our memories. We always kept our spirits high even though we were away from our families. It was so eay to talk to Darren and of course he was one big clown. We always played jokes on each other. One of the best memories that I always recall and tell my friends, is how we could beat anyone at bowling, he would put a bet and even tell the soldiers that I would bowl left handed (he is the only one that knew that I had broken my right wrist and had to learn to bowl left handed and was pretty good at it). We share so many free beers and dinners together. Its so sad that yall have lost a great son and a husband, but most of all I have lost a dear friend, again my sincere condolences to the family and his kids. I will always remember Darren for the great person that he is. His memory will forever be in my heart.

Darren, you are missed. I remember being woken up by the mortars which took your life. I could not believe it when they said that you had died. I knew you as a friend and a coworker, but your soldier, who sopke at your memorial said he knew you as a father figure. I cannot think of a better testamony about a leader than what your soldier said about you. I know you are in a better place now, and I'm sure your making someone laugh. Anyone who has ever known you, was touched by you, and remembering you always makes us smile. God Bless you and your family

My deepest sympathies to those he left behind to mourn his loss. Cunningham was a true soldier and my pick for BNCOC 4-95 class clown. Always a true sense of humor and never offering a dull moment. Soldiering and battlefield focus was part of his real personality as a NCO. He will truly be missed.
