William I. Salazar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
William Salazar''s job in Iraq was to record footage of the war from behind a camera, something his family assumed would be less dangerous. But by October, the 26-year-old Marine was getting worried. "Dad, It''s getting tight around here," he wrote in an e-mail to his father, Gus. "There have been a few near misses with road bombs. It''s scary, but I''m tough. I''ll be OK." Salazar, of Las Vegas, died Oct. 15 in a car bomb explosion. He was based at Camp Pendleton. Salazar was always interested in graphic design and the film industry. After graduating from high school in Lynwood, Calif., he took a handful of graphic arts classes at the Art Institute of Los Angeles and played trombone for a local jazz band before moving to Las Vegas and joining the Marines. He was excited to become a combat photographer. "We were excited for him, until he said he was going to Iraq," said his uncle, Lou Salazar. The Marine told his family he was going to war the day before Mother''s Day. "My heart just broke when he told me," said his mother, Gloria Salazar. "As a mother, you support your son whatever he wants to do and you just pray every day that he''ll come home to you safe. But he didn''t. He never came home."

Hi Will,
Just thinking of you... Was thinking about that time when Sharahs friend threw up all the chili con queso that my mom had made. Her friend just happened to yack it all over your moms solara and we sat in front of Dennys for like an hour just watching her clean it out. While, Laughing about how you used to call me tomatoe cause when I was a little girl (7years old) cause supposively when I got "mad" I turned to a tomatoe. lol Yet, in reality I was just a little girl with a crush ahahaha. Hope everything is good up there! Miss you and see you soon...BTW: I still carry your card in my wallet as guidance and protection.

It's been a while since I wrote in the guest book, but there is not one day that I don't think of you dear William. Your picture is right next to my daughter's and you know how much she loves you. Her birthday is the same as yours and when we celebrate hers, we celebrate yours. You will always be in our hearts dear William and I know the Lord called you for a reason. There is a time to be born, a time to die, a time to weep and a time to mourn. I thank the Lord for lending us YOU. Now you are at peace. We are all so proud of you for doing what you believed in and honoring your country. One day we shall all be there with you rejoicing. Have a blessed Easter and may you too be at peace Gloria.

Hard to believe it is almost 6 months since your guestbook has been written in. Please know that you are thought about and remembered by so many people who knew and loved you, and by many more who did not have the honor to know you personally. I mourn your loss.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know William, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Gloria,

As a mother I cry for you. We are the only ones who can say that we carried our children close to our hearts! Even when the chord is cut at bith, they are FOREVER tied to us! William is gone from this earth, but not from your heart!

I have been in the Ministry for almost 30 years and have dealt with a great deal of death. I have learned never to question God. He alone knows what the future holds, and He is the "giver and taker of life"! I thank God because He allowed William to come to this earth through you, and God trusted you to love him! You did your part, now God is doing His! He has taken William back where he will
"...never know pain or suffering again..." where God has "...wiped away all tears from Williams's eyes".

I will FOREVER "Salute" Cpl William I. Salazar!

Ray,
I was reading William's guest book and I saw your entry. It touched my heart! I grew up in a tight-knit family of seven. When my baby brother died several years ago from a prolonged illness, my father said NOTHING can compare to losing a child. I know what it is to love deeply, but as a mother and grandmother, I don't know what it is to lose a child.

I thank God because he has "...wiped away all tears from William's eyes..." I thank God because William will "...never know pain and sorrow again..."

I will FOREVER "Salute" Cpl. William I. Salazar!

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal!

Yours in Christ,

August 13, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Well...what can I say, William was and is still considered one of my best friends! From Junior(in band) thru High School(with weekends at my house & Val) to my Baby shower and marriage he'd been there...It hasn't been easy dealing with the fact that he's not a phone call away anymore, not there to make me laugh or remind me...of me! William has always had a special soul, and I'm sure it is meant for god's Army as well..(or Marines).
