To the family and friends of SSG McMahan: He and I served together in Korea B btry 6-37 FA MLRS prior to his PCS to Germany. In fact, he left before me so I remember him clearing the unit it being sent back because of the stop loss implemented. I considered him a friend and it broke my heart when I learned of his fate. While time has passed I still think of him and honor him each Memorial Day.

I hope you do realize how much he meant to the others who called him "friend" as my son Shaun Holman did when they served together in Germany and Iraq. We will remember Don always. Blessings, Alicia Holman

To the family of Staff Sgt. Don S. McMahan:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

Just wanted to let you know that my son Shaun Holman served with your son in Iraq. He was Shaun's best friend while over there. They took turns going to get dinners every night. We adopted him with a group from Lex. KY. and sent him and his friends lots of goodies and he shared about his children with us and how much he loved his family. Shaun went back to Germany about 2 weeks before Don's death and it hit us all hard. We have joined with Military Missions out of Lex. KY and your son was remember in our 4th of July parade. If you go to their website it is www.militarymissions.com and the link to the video is http://www.militarymissionsonline.com/videos.htm Don's bib worn on the walk in memory of him appears at about the 22 second mark. We were honored to have heard from him and been able to share a little bit of KY with him. God Bless you all and know Don is remembered. Our son is in Afghanistan right now and was honored to call him friend.

Steve, I think about you everyday. Why did'nt you switch seats with me? You could've had my seat in the HUMVEE. At your memorial on Falcon they played a Toby Keith song, I thought it was ironic since you did'nt like Toby Keith's music. It was a really nice cool sunny day though. I miss you dude, I really do. Remember when Franks shot the 203 off in the back of the HUMVEE, or when we were getting ready to search that house and the owner brought us out food. Man I miss you. Well, I gotta go. Love you like a brother, your friend John

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Staff Sgt McMahan. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Staff Sgt McMahan knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Staff Sgt McMahan!

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
Please contact me and I will email you
back a copy of the Angel drawing I have

I did not know Don, but he is my hero.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me!!!
