To the family of Spc. Seth Garceau:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

I'll never forget the day I heard about seth passing away. Such a dear freind that I have known for the most part of my life, and now he is gone. It all seemed so unreal. We all heard the news everyday about the casualties but none of us never thought that someone we knew would end up on that list, but it happened. Now we all know how short life is and how precious it is. It reminds us to cherish everyone in it and every moment of it. live and let live. hoorah seth. you'll always be remembered and loved by so many, and the life you gave will be honored forever.

I have never known a a more heart felt and compassionate person than Seth. I fondly remeber the time we spent together during the summers, riding bikes and playing video games, getting together with the neighborhood guys and playing baseball. Seth always talked about someday becoming a soldier and serving his country. He made good on that ideal and made us all proud. He was smart and funny and humble. Seth was one of my best friends and I miss him every day. Every person who knew Seth, even just a little, should feel grateful to have been apart of his life and his energy. I think of you often, and its always fondly Seth. I miss you everyday.

Seth was always the type of guy that had strong beliefs. If he was interested in something you knew he would have his heart in it. I remember in elementary school he would always bring old war memorabilia to show and tell. I too remember him bringing an old gas mask to class. It was almost as if it was a sign that he was going to serve his country. I am proud to say I knew Seth and he will be missed. I will never forget the day I found out he was wounded, it hit me very hard, and the day I found out he had passed was even harder. You are a true HERO and will never be forgotten.

Seth was a very nice person and I am glad that I was able to know him. I remember seeing all of the people that came to honor him at the high school for his memorial. I hope that seeing everyone gave his family and friends comfort and a way of knowing what a special and respected person Seth was to all of us who knew him. Our class of 2001 will never forget him and will always remember Seth's and his family's sacrifice.

I first met Seth in preschool. One of my only memories of which he cut my twin sisters hair with a pair of scissors. Seth and I continued to go to school together until graduation day. Seth had so much pride for his country, even as a little boy. I can remember in 2nd grade him bringing a gas mask to show and tell and he always wore camouflage clothing. Seth I think about you so much and still get sad knowing that you are gone. You were always one of the nicest guys I had ever met and I will never forget you.

Seth: Its taken me almost 4 years to be able to finally write something: I knew you since you were very little and allways enjoyed the times your dad and I had. I remember babysitting you and tess a few times and Im not sure which of us was babysitting whom (smiling) You taught me what family and friends trully mean. You know to this day your dad and I will sit up late at night reminising about you and the fun we had. And if we begin to get a bit misty eyed we imagine you walking in and saying "will you two stop being such boneheads" and next thing you know we are laughing. You allways brightened things up. Your dad, Tess, and I are all better people for having known you. Tess is just as kind and caring as you. You and your family will allways be special to me. And thank you for the gift you left behind for me my friend. When you were little playing in the yard I remember pulling up and sayin hows it going Sarge and you allways smiled. I salute you Sarge, you are my Hero! Rest in Peace Seth. Love Fred

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “What Are We to Remember?” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

Dear Seth,
I am using this guest book entry to tell you that it still hurts, every day and one year has gone by thinking that it would get easier, but it does not. Our family gatherings are not the same and I find it even harder to talk about our loss of your life in our life. We are going to have one of your favorite meals today.... Pastie Pie. Your Dad and sister with be with us and we will set a place at the table for you.
Thank you for so many things and for so many ways you lit up our lives. Never to be forgotten.
Grandpa Ron ........ Grandma Ann too.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me!!!

Seth, There are not nearly enough pure hearted people in this world and my husband Bobby says that you were one of the best. He thought of you as a little brother. So it doesn't seem fair that you were taken. But God has a plan and we should never think ourselves large enough to understand it. But I know that you will be watching over your family and friends forever. You were loved and you will be missed.

What can i say about Seth.... He was a very sweet and loving guy!! I had a few classes with him in high school. I also had study hall with him and he would always talk to me and asking me how things are going. When I would be writing a song he would always tell me ways i could make the song that i was writing better. He will never be forgoten at all. He was truly a sweet guy and his legacy will always live on in the hearts of millions.

I've never met Seth, but I feel as if I know him somewhat after reading about him in the Oelwein Daily Register sent to me by his Grandpa Ron, my first cousin. My impression is that he was a young man anyone would want for a friend. He was very giving and cared deeply for others. God bless his family.

If Seth was anything like his Garceau Grandparents, who I met thru Don's high school get togethers, he must have been a great guy. We have never met him but from all the comments I've read he was a very fine young man. Our family here is very greatful for his caring enough to protect and defend our freedoms. He will not be forgotten. Our hearts go out to all his family and friends.

Seth was a fun loving guy, that loved to be with the family gatherings and exchange ideas, jokes, stories and politics. He made his grandmothers very proud when he came to the table and would go back for 2nd and 3rd helpings of his favorite foods of Pasties, Grilled Steak, Stir Fry, Meat Loaf, French Bread, Homemade Stews and Lasagna. He loved his trucks and was in the middle of restoring a 1940's farm front loader tractor. One that he used to climb on, when he was very young, in the neighbor's back yard. He was a joy to all of us in the family. Our dinner table will never be the same. He loved teasing his sister that was 10 years younger.
I am so proud of you Seth, your family misses you so much.

Seth was an awesome guy and truly one in a million. I can remember when he would come into the nurse's office to visit with my mom and i would be in there eating lunch with my mom. It's an honor to have gone to school with him and to have known him. He is truly missed and a hero.

Seth was my nephew and my children's first cousin. He was a wonderful boy, teenager and man. He had a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor and was able to make others laugh with his one liners. He will be greatly missed by our family . He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and I am proud of him, and only wish we all could have known and enjoyed him for many years to come. You will be missed Seth, and we love you.

Seth Garceau is proudly honored by Oelwein. He was a gracious and courteous young man and he brought joy to many hearts with his sense of humor.
Seth was never afraid to step forth and do his part to ensure freedom for all. Seth paid the ultimate price. We lost a great young man and he will be missed. A hero has fallen in the community of Oelwein.
