Francisco G. Martinez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 23, 2005.
Francisco "Frank" Martinez had the magic touch when it came to computers. He was a promising Web-based graphic designer and was quickly assigned to a military tactical operations center because of his computer skills. But he wasn't satisfied staying inside the operations center. "He felt that he was not doing enough. He volunteered to go out on patrols," said his father, Francisco Martinez. The younger Martinez, 20, of Fort Worth, Texas, was killed March 20 in Iraq when his patrol came under fire. He was assigned to Camp Hovey, Korea. Martinez hadn't expressed an interest in becoming a soldier, despite his father's 10-year military career. He abruptly changed his mind when confronted with limited job opportunities. He enlisted in the Army at age 17, a month after graduating from high school, where he was involved with the technology and theater arts departments. He is also survived by his mother, Carmen Hernandez, and his stepmother, Maria Figueroa Martinez.

Prayer for the living and those that have passed………

Oh Great Usen he walks with you now
Oh Great Spirit be with us always and give us strength
Let our prayers be heard, felt and shared
Heal our pain but do not let us forget
The smiles, the laughter, the good times
Let my Family be our strength and
Let those who have gone before us hear our prayers
That they remain by our side always and
That we remember them always
When we feel the wind and see the sun rise
And on the moonlit night when you hear
The silence or the Night Eagle (Owl) calling
And there among the stars and beyond
Let us one day see them and you Great Spirit
Let our faith in you be our strength
Oh Great Spirit be with us always

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I am writing this to the parents of Francisco G. Martinez. I went to basic training at Ft. Sill with him. Your son always had the best attitude about everything, he had that o well type attitude, i signed up for this and thats what im going to do. Me on the other hand i hated it, but he would always try to be positive. We used to shave eachothers heads. We would get clippers and have 10 min at the most to shave 5 or 6 peoples heads. I`ve since gotten out of the army. I found his picture when i was looking through the fallen soldiers. I am very sorry for your loss.

To the family & friends of SPC Martinez:

I was privileged enough to serve with SPC Martinez in Korea, Kuwait, and finally Iraq. When I first met him, he immediately befriended me because I was the new guy and I was going to be on his team. He showed me the ropes and taught me how to do my job. We were on the same team until January. He remained a good friend until his passing. His sense of humor, friendship, and tremendous artistic and musical talent is missed by all of us over here in Iraq. My deepest sympathies go out to the family of SPC Francisco Martinez. God bless!

I never knew Frank, but he was a family member of my best friend. I send my condolences to the rest of Frank's family and to his fiance. This is a hard deal to go through and i know all of us will keep him in our thoughts. I wish there was more i could say that would have some meaning of hope, but if there was, i wouldn't know how to phrase it. <3

I attended Eastern Hills with your son, and I must say that he was a brilliant person. I remember having Tech Lab with him, and boy, did he love his computer! It was a great sacrifice that he made for America, and the world, perhaps. On behalf of Eastern Hills, and the Alumni of 2003, all of the prayers are with your family.

Francisco will always be remembered as a very courageous and honorable young man. He deserves respect and gratitude along with the many who are on the front lines of battle, risking their own lives for others. I never had the pleasure of knowing Francisco but my sons attended Eastern Hills High School with him and are proud to have known him, but sad to have lost a friend. My prayers are with the family and friends that loved Francisco. His legacy continues through his family and through serving his country. God be with you!
