I'd Never met Lee in person; I was serving in the National Guard around the time of his death. At the time, I was acting as The Adjutant Generals assistant. His body was returned and his mother wanted him to have every military accolade possible; which included his body being driven in one of the antique military vehicles. The adjutant general tasked me with carrying out that request. It just so happened the day of his honors; it rained pretty heavily in New Orleans and we couldn't use the antique vehicles. I was full of all kinds of emotions...as I was leaving Jackson Barracks to attempt to drive my personal vehicle to the funeral; I was overcome with emotions and had to pull over to manage my sobbing. The thing is...Lee was: around my age, went into the military for the same reason and from what I heard...a great and genuine guy. As I said, I never met him...but the circumstances of his honors are still fresh in my memory.

I was Lee's 4th grade teacher at Lockett Elementary. He was quiet, smart, and precious. I think of him constantly. I dressed to attend his service, but I broke down and could not step out the door. Denise, I know how much you loved your boys. I pray for your family.

LEE, This day will live in my memory for as long as I shall live. Four years ago today I escorted you home. I will never forget the sorrow and hurt your mother and brother felt that day. She was sure proud of you and well let everyone know so. Just wanted to let you know that hardly a day goes by that you are not thought of.

I know I am probably signing this guestbook really late, but at the time I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I came in contact with this young man and his mother once. I was a tax preparer at Fast Tax Income Tax Services in New Orleans in 2004 in the lower ninth ward. I remember doing Lee's taxes and his mother's. I remember how well mannered and respectful he was and that is something I will never forget. Even then, I couldn't help to think, about how great his mom had raised him, and how respectful he was. It still saddens me to this day to think that he passed away fighting for our country, but I am honored that he did. Eventhough I didn't know him or his family personally, I will always remember being his tax preparer in 2004.
GOD BLESS you Lee Godbolt and Rest In Peace.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me!!!

Lee will be greatly missed and I want Ms. Denise to know Lee was truely a good person. This is a good example of how far he would go to help any body even when we were in school he would do things to make you smile. The smile Lee would put on your face is priceless and so is he. From a deeply hurt friend Irma.

TRULY MY HEART AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO SGT LEE M. GODBOLT'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I RECENTLY LOST MY HUSBAND SGT RENE KNOX JR. WHILE SERVING IN IRAQ. IT IS ALRIGHT TO CRY BUT BETTER TO LAUGH AND REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES YOU HAD WITH LEE. YOU WILL BE IN MY PRAYERS AND HEART FOREVER AND REMEMBER JOY COMES IN THE MORNING. MY HUSBAND WAS ALSO FROM NEW ORLEANS AND HE ACTUALLY KNEW LEE I DID NOT HAVE THE PLEASURE OF MEETING HIM, BUT I KNOW THAT HE WAS A GOOD PERSON FOR THE SIMPLY FACT HE DIED FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND. SO R.I.P LEE YOU GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE AND WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR THAT.

As a retired soldier, I want to send my condolences to SGT Godbolt’s family. I am a Godbolt who was born and raised in Arkansas and who joined the Army in Shreveport, Louisiana by way of Texarkana, Texas. My family in Arkansas notified me about SGT Godbolt’s death. Although I did not personally know SGT Godbolt, I feel a kinship to him because we both have the same last name and are both from the same area of the country. To SGT Godbolt’s family, please stay strong. GOD BLESS you all.

My mom and Lee's mom worked together at a nursery a while back and that's how he and I met and everything. He was a really nice person and all his mom ever talked about was her baby Lee. He was her heart. He had also become a close friend of mine. When my mom and his mom stopped working at the nursery we lost contact with each other. And a few days ago when I found out about what happened, I was in total shock and disbelief. I refused to accept what had happened because it seemed so unreal, but he left this world doing what he loved, protecting his country, and he was trying to make things better for himself and his mom. With time the wounds will heal, but right now it's hard to accept the fact that he's gone. He may be gone in body, but he'll always be present in spirit. My deepest sympathy goes out to Ms. Denise and her family, i'll keep you all in my prayers.
