Aaron N. Cepeda Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 10, 2005.
It was love at first sight when Aaron Nathaniel Cepeda met his wife, Ella, on a church retreat in 1999. The couple married and had two children, but they wanted another ceremony at St. Anthony's Catholic Church when he returned from Iraq. Instead, his family had his funeral there. Cepeda, 22, of San Antonio, Texas, was killed May 7 by a suicide bomber in Anbar province. He was based in San Antonio. Cepeda earned a bachelor's degree in biology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He planned to attend Marine officer training, and also had been accepted for medical instruction at the University of Texas Health Science Center. His dream was to become a cardiovascular surgeon. "He always liked to help people," his wife said. He is survived by a son, Aaron Jr., 5, and a 16-month-old daughter, Journee. "I'm hoping my son will grow up to be like his daddy was," Ella Cepeda said. "I don't think there is anyone like him or anyone that could ever be like him."

Hi Aaron
It has been so long ago since I have seen you or talked to you. I know that you know I think of you quite often. When I worry about my son, your nephew, I think of you. So imagine how often that is. I do share your picture shotgun with my sons. He has such a resemblance to you.

I always miss you and love you dearly. Not a day goes by of wondering how it would be if you were still here.

Proud to call you my brother and brag about you all the time. Please continue to watch over my son and keep him safe. ❤

Aaron, you were thought of so very much this past week at the 10 year memorial ceremonies and events. We visited your beautiful resting place, cringed at the other headstones as they reminded us that you were your mother and father's third son lost. We met your parents, wife and kids which made is so much harder. Before you were face in many photos, but meeting your children made you a father. I had never really thought about that part before. I hope you know that as long as there is breath in KABAR 7, there will always be remembrances of you, Graham, Wiener and Marzano. Your short life has made such a great impact. You are our hero. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Aaron,
I never knew you, but being the mom of Sgt. Michael Marzano, I feel connected. Know that you are not forgotten. When I talk of the ambush, I always speak of the four of you as a group. You are all my heroes.
Your sacrifice for my freedom came at a heavy cost and please know I appreciate that cost. It is a high price to pay to don the uniform for a country. Job well done.

To the family of Aaron. I am Michael's mom who was also lost in that same ambush. I know this time of year is so painful. Like you, I lost my Heavenly Hero on the 7th, told on the 8th which was, at that time, Mother's Day. It seems as if we have to walk this nightmare for almost a week every anniversary. I am sorry for your loss and wanted you to know, I was thinking of you and the other 2 Gold Star families that we are tied to, on this 4th anniversary.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SGT Aaron N. Cepeda our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Aaron. And to Aaron it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the Corps and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Aaron, you are a brave Marine, a Patriot Warrior and true Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,385 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Aaron’s family and loved ones.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Aaron, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Prayer for the living and those that have passed………

Oh Great Usen he walks with you now
Oh Great Spirit be with us always and give us strength
Let our prayers be heard, felt and shared
Heal our pain but do not let us forget
The smiles, the laughter, the good times
Let my Family be our strength and
Let those who have gone before us hear our prayers
That they remain by our side always and
That we remember them always
When we feel the wind and see the sun rise
And on the moonlit night when you hear
The silence or the Night Eagle (Owl) calling
And there among the stars and beyond
Let us one day see them and you Great Spirit
Let our faith in you be our strength
Oh Great Spirit be with us always

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I want you to know hat your husband was one hell of a person, one hell of a Marine. I remember waking up that morning to the news. We took very hard we didn't want to believe that it had happened. I can't say that i knew Aaron very well, but i knew him. We served our counrty together in the same unit. i will always remember him and those few moments when we did work together or ask each other how our families were doing. I wish the best for you and your children. I plan to pay my respects to him when i get ack home. Semper Fi

Words cannnot express my sympathy at the loss of your son and of your husband. Our heart breaks everytime we think of May 7th and the loss that we Marine family had to endure. My son, Sgt. Michael Marzano, was with Aaron as they left this earth to guard the streets of heaven. I can only hope that someday, somehow, we will overcome the pain of our losses. We are, of course, a family now and forever. If you will send me your email address, I will send you to my yahoo photo album that I took that has an engraving of Aaron's name along with Michael's and Graham's on a granite wall in Sharon Pa. I hate that their names are there but we can be proud knowing that our loved ones gave the ultimate sacrifice as one of the proud, the few and a Marine.

I worked with Aaron at the Veterans Affairs office here at A&M-Corpus Christi. Aaron was a really great guy, and really cared about others. It is a real shame that this world must go on without Aaron and that his children will not be able to see how truly great their father was. But this world was blessed the short time that Aaron was with us.
