Thank you Terry for the inspiration you have given me over the years being the "brother I never had". We had some fun times together and I am always proud to speak of you and the ultimate sacrifice you gave for not only the Marines but also our country. I still grieve your loss today but also think of the way you hated the pranks I would play on you and I start to laugh. I'd shout "Hornet!" and you would take off running. But you'd pick up a snake and chase me with it! Semper Fi Brother, Semper Fi! Love always from your eldest first cousin ABH2 Anita Lake-Warren, US Navy.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Gunnery Sgt. Elliott, I will remember you for the rest of my days. As a recruit of yours, I know of the contagious smile, clever wit and never quit attitude that you tried to instill in everyone you met. While so many at Parris Island were unprepared when they stood in those yellow footsteps, you sent us there with the strength, knowledge and respect of the Marine Corps that only you, Terry J. Elliott, could give. Your persona preceeded you wherever you went. You are truly the incarnation of Superman. To those who never met you, you are at a loss. I will forever cherish my memories of you, from my first impression of you being the smoothest talking recruiter I'd ever heard to the exercise at North Park. You always pushed me a little harder along with everyone else... and for that, I thank you. My only regret is not completing recruit training. I feel I let you down tremendously and I apologize. Keep smiling and keep winning em' over. You will be truly and utterly missed. Your recruit, Robert Edward Trejo.

To the Family of Gunny Elliott, I met him when I was active duty in NC and met him again when he checked into MCBH. I used to call him "Smiley" because that was the first thing I saw upon seeing him every time I saw him. He was an awesome Marine, took care of his troops, and could make any situation effortless. He will be greatly missed and my deepest empathy to his wife, children, and family. God Bless You.

To the family of Terry Elliott:
I recently found out about Terry when i went back home (middleton) for Spring Break. Terry and i were class mates. i truly loved him! He has the biggest heart, the biggest smile! He lit up the room when he walked into class. We had so many good times especially in Coach Smalley's D.E. class. I will always remember Terry. He was a good man. I moved off right after high school so i lost touch with a lot of what went on in Middleton. So when i read that Terry saved someone from a car, it didn't surprise, when i heard Terry joined the marines, it didn't surprise me...Why? He was ALWAYS willing to give himself for others! What a blessing it is to hear he has a son, Preston, I pray that young man will inherit so many of his father's traits. If so, Preston will be a fine young man. Terry, i leave you with this---Job well done! Thank you for all that you did (fighting for our country). Thank you for all the laughs, most of all thank you for being my friend!

To have known TJ is an honor. My life will now be void knowing that he is no longer with us. That dazzing smile and the crazy laugh will always be remembered. We recruited together in West Tennessee. And the times were UNFORGETTABLE. A lot of the college recruiters and military recruiters would go eat after an event and I remember asking him what "TJ" stood for and he said "if I tell you, I will have to kill you"...and the entire table broke out in laughter. The times that we shared will always be etched in my memory...he definitely left a legacy. TJ was the perfect picture of an wonderful man who would do ANYTHING to help his fellow man. You will ALWAYS be remembered and hold a very special place in my heart. Go in peace and take your much deserved rest. Thank you for being TJ...you are definitely my hero.

To the family and friends of Gunnery Sgt. Terry Elliott: It is with a heavy heart I sit to type this message. Yet another young American Hero has fallen in the defense of our country. I'm saddened for your loss, yet so impressed by your loved one's generosity of heart and spirit. He was, is and always will be a Hero for our entire nation.
My husband and I would like you to know how very sorry we are for your loss and how very grateful we are for your sacrifice. Were it not for men and women of Terry's caliber, we could not live in a free country and enjoy life and liberty. Our hearts and prayers are ever with you.
May God grant your hearts peace, your minds quietness, your souls refreshing and your bodies rest as you face the many long days ahead. May your memories be happy ones filled with laughter and joy. God bless you always.

To Gunny Elliott's family: I was a close friend of Terry's when we were stationed in Afghanistan together last year, part of his Marine family. I am from Memphis, my mother's family is from Hardeman County, so we naturally developed a bond. The good times we shared even in the worst of places will always be in my mind. GySgt Elliott will never be forgotten, and in that respect, is truly an indestructible man.

My cousin in a true SuperHero, and this is what i'll forever tell his son Preston if he should ask me about his dad. I'll always remember him as the cool, top notch, big brother figure. There's a 10 year age difference between us and I can remember looking at him when I was younger and thinking, "Man, he can do anything!" I mean that boy could outrun a car, drink raw eggs, lift crazy heavy weights, dance, dress in like the coolest clothes (no matter how crazy the clothes looked Terry ALWAYS looked good in them). He even saved someone from a car that had been driven off into water! SuperHero and Gentle Giant are just two of the numerous ways to describe him. He was so kind (and i'm not just saying this because he's now gone). His laugh was contagious and he cared for the welfar of others. We all know this is true because he did what many would dare not to do - Die for his Country. He loved his family soo much. Believe it or not, Terry was the only guy cousin of ours that I actually got along with. He was our Grandma's favorite Grandchild (he would deny it 'cause he's humble and all, but we all know it's the truth and so does he). It was hard not to know him and he not be your favorite. He was just that kind of person. It really sucks knowing that he's gone, but I know God had prepared Terry for this just by the was he was talking when he was home last time. I take comfort in knowing this. We love you Terry, and you'll always be our "SuperHero".
(the following are excerpts from a conversation Terry had at his Aunt Emma and Uncle David's house in Middleton, TN.) "...I've lived my life to the fullest. I 've done everything I wanted to do, and if anything were to happen to me now it's ok because i've done what I wanted to do." "When I got to Hawaii me and a couple of my friends swam over to another island, but when I got there I realized 'Man, now I gotta swim back!'"

To the Family of Gunnery Sgt. Terry J. Elliott:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
