Prayer Shawls 4 Fallen Soldiers ([email protected]) is an organization with groups throughout the country who strive to send handmade prayer shawls and/ or lap robes to families who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your son’s sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. May God bless you and comfort you in the days ahead. Sincerely, Lynne

Happy birthday, Beto. Today you would have been 35 years old. We all miss you and love you. I still remember all the good times that we shared with you during the family parties. Thank you for leaving us your beautiful children. Your uncle Ralph spends time playing with little Gilbert and he loves to tease Miranda. Tisha is expecting her first child, so I will hopefully have my first grand child but I will still take care of little Miranda whenever I get a chance. I know that my Mom is with you, so take good care of her. your nina Luchi says that she loves you, misses you and wishes that you were still with us.
Love,

It has been three years since you left this earth, Beto, but I know that your spirit is still with us. We talk about you as if you were still here and I talk to Miranda about you every time that I get a chance to see her. I do not want that beautiful child to ever forget you. She is growing up so fast and she talks like a miniature adult. I recently spent time with her and she wanted to take flowers to the cemetery, so we went shopping and she picked out a flower to take to your grave site. it was heartbreaking to see her kiss your grave stone and tell you that she loves you and misses you. When she gets older I will tell her stories about you so that she will know what a great father she had. Your Mom takes her and little Gilbert to Peter Piper when she gets to see them and Miranda is especially attached to her. Your Mom is still grieving for you and although she tries to deal with your passing, she still cries and sometimes I know that she has bouts of depression. Being with Miranda helps her a great deal. I pray that she can continue her relationship with her grandchildren and that she can watch them grow up.Your sisters came to El Paso for your anniversary mass and Laura's children had a great time with little Gilbert and Miranda. I know that you are in heaven with my Mom and I am sure that you are both praying for all of us. Rest in peace.

Mijito yesterday like every other day I thought of you but yesterday was especially hard for it as your 3rd anniversary and yes all day my heart ached. I wish we could talk like the last time we did before you took off for your tour. We prayed and you told me not to always believe what we saw on the news. You sounded so sure of yourself so the only consoling I tell myself is that my heavenly Father really needed an angel to watch over his family.Sweetie your always with me and I pray for your Family always and youd be so proud of your dad he is being a great grandfather. I know your Resting in Peace Mijo I love You Auntie Gloria you told me that all are parties were not complete till I should up. I will be there to Party with you I promise that.

Man it's tough, I tear up when I think of all the years that have passed since we used to see each other during high school, family parties . . . just getting grown in general. I remember days when my dad would lay 5 bucks on me, maybe you had spent the night or your mom dropped you off at my house. We'd blow that 5 bucks on a 1-pound bag of M&M's and a 2-liter coke down at the Pico Norte Circle-K then just hide out in my tree house reading comic books and talking about the girls we liked at school.
You would be proud of your brother man, I see so much of you in him. I can see sometimes how much he hurts missing you. We all do. My dad hangs out with little Gilbert sometimes at my house, I saw him over the holidays and it might be my imagination, but sometimes when he looks at me with those big brown eyes I think it's you . . . you talking to me through him . . . saying, "Hey Charlie, I'm here, we can still play! I love you". And if it's not my imagination Beto, if it really is you, I really want to tell you how much I love you too . . . How much I regret that we weren't closer after we both left EP. And how whenever our Tíos have drunk arguments, everybody still shows up at the family party because of you, because it's what you wanted . . .
I'll do my best to keep an eye on Joe, lil Gilbert, and that beautiful daughter of yours. I'm posting a picture of the day you got your Navy orders. Sometimes when I'm in the EP airport and I have some extra time I walk over to that gate and I stand in this spot where the picture was taken, that was 16 years ago. You're a great cousin man, and I love you . . .

Mijo,
I've been doing a lot of thinking about you today. Still can't wrap my head around the fact that you're gone. Steve, Milton, Jessie, and I have all been in contact and all feel the same.
I said a prayer today for your family; but most of all Jeannie, Gilbert III, and Miranda. I know there have been changes in their lives, but you have not been forgotten by anyone.
I hope this day can bring peace to your family. I am thankful to have been able to call you my friend. "Paco McFaddin's Landscaping Service" is still a viable option for my retirement, but it would not be the same without you at the wheel of that beat-up Geo Storm. :o)
You memory can make me laugh and cry at the same time. Then again, that seems to be how we ended up all the time; laughing until tears streamed down our faces. That's how I remember you my brother.
May God's grace bless your family, we all miss you.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Gilbert, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

HM1 Minjares was my supervisor at GAS-14 Cherry Point. I flew casevac with the other Corpsman with HM1 that terrible day, HM3 Ruiz. I have been out of the navy for two years now but I still think about both of them. It is such an honor to have known HM1 Minjares, I still remember our many conversations at the GAS about whatever new project he was working on. When I left the Navy it was HM1 that ran around the GAS making sure everyone signed my going away gift. Please accept my most sincere condolences, I am so sorry for your loss.

Happy Birthday Beto. I know your birthday was an especially hard day for all your family, but especially your folks and siblings. We went to leave you some flowers and had lunch with some family in your honor.
Without sounding selfish, I still can't believe this has happened to you. You know they say one of the first stages of grief is denial and then you progress through others...well for some reason I can't get out of denial. It just doesn't seem real until I see all the hurt and sadness around on family, but in this terrible trajedy pride and honor has also emerged. I just miss you and when I think of you I can't help but shed some tears. I love you and miss you so much.
Anyway Beto, we think about countless times thru out the day. Your kids are doing great and Jeanie is a great mom, you'd be proud. We miss you and love you and will never forget what you did for our family and our country.
luv your cuzin,
Cindy

Happy Birthday Daddy!!!
Hello Daddy,
Well as we woke up this morning Gilbert was singing Happy Birthday Daddy. It was so.... cute. We aslo went to eat breakfast with your grandma and aunts and then we went to see you. Gilbert and I made you a cake today and we sang Happy Birthday Daddy again. Then Gilbert took a big bite in the cake for you. I wish you were here to see how big the kids are getting. But I know you are in Heaven watching us and giving me the strenght that I need to keep on going. I will always keep you in my heart and tell the kids everyday about you. You are the GREATEST Daddy in the world!!! We miss you and love you so much. Good night Daddy and I will see you in my dreams.
I love you with all my heart.
Love always your wife,
Jeannie, Gilbert III, and Miranda

It's hard to believe it's been a year already. The Minjares/Franco family never strays far from my thoughts and prayers. Beto was a true patriot, a hero, and a good man. His memory will live forever. God Bless!

To the family of HM1 Minjares,
I was in Iraq with the Marines the day Morphine 12 was shot down, and my team did the assessment to determine what happened on that terrible day. For the rest of my life, I will never be able to think of my service in Iraq without thinking of the crew of Morphine 12. 1Lt Landaker and I had traded emails and a phone call less than a week before.
I will always remember HM1 Minjares--although I never had the pleasure to meet him, he was from El Paso, my home town, and was a shipmate serving with the Marine Corps. His life has touched many others, and his memory will live on in the hall of heroes, those who gave their last full measure of devotion to our great country. May God continue to comfort his family, especially his wife and two young children, and may they always remember with pride what a great sailor and American he was.
Semper Fi, shipmate. "Eternal Father, strong to save."

Gil became my neighbor in NC just before he died. I remember the day I first saw him in his new backyard...he made my heart skip a beat with his warm friendly smile and great olive complexion, nice chiseled body....I thought if only I were 40 years younger!!! We became fast friends! Gil had so many ideas of what life was suppose to be like. How he and his little family was going to enjoy thier lives. The day Jeannie was notified was a horrible day..she stood in their house clinging to the new baby, almost as if she let go of the baby she would be letting go of Gil himself. We haven't let Gil go yet...he will always be with us. I still see him waving to me on his back porch at times. Miss ya' Big Gil.

I knew HM1 Minjares when I worked for him in Patient Admin Dept at Naval Hospital, Guam. He was a cool guy and the best LPO! I just recently returned from a 7 month deployment in Al Ambar Province. I was informed of his death through a mutual friend who also deployed with him to Iraq. I was very saddened to hear of his death and my condolences go out to his wife and two kids--I'm very sorry for your loss. He'll always be remembered as a good friend and stand-up guy. He will be missed...
