Oh JonJon, I think about you often! I wonder how far you´ll be in the Army now! I often visualize you being in front of your assigned company as a 1sg. I´m sure you´ll have plenty to say about me being married and my last name Smith now oh how I wish you were here to attend my wedding so you and Hughes could have acted a fool together. Even tho I´m retired now, I still tell everybody about my "favorite Soldier". They say time heals all wounds but my wound for missing you hasn´t gotten easy yet!!!
Forever and always missing you
Forever praying for the strength of your family

JonJon, there hasn't been a Memorial Day that I don't honor and salute you since 2007. I tell everyone about you and your initial reason for joining the military. Very commendable that you wanted to make sure that your mom would be "straight". I remember changing your diapers, seeing you play in Scottdale when we visited, and watching you grow up to make your mark in the world.
@Sherry, I think about you, Jonie and Johanna a lot. I'm wishing you all have the continued strength day by day. I thank God Richard introduced his family to mine. We became family.
Love yall!

Man, it's been too long bro. I know I should've been here sooner and I'm sorry. Life gets in the way. But that's no excuse. I miss you bro, we were always there for each other. You had my back since day one at Fox Company. We worked hard, and when they got me down, you told me kill them with kindness. I miss you I love you kid.

To the family and friends of Jonathon K. Smith, I had the privilege today of carrying a commemorative sign today in the Dacula Memorial Day Parade in Honor of SPC Jonathon K. Smith. As a parent of a son that is almost 19 I can’t imagine the incredible pain that you all have endured with his loss. There is no greater love than to lay down your life in service to others-especially for those that you will never meet or know. I and my family are sincerely thankful for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice, and it was an honor to represent his contributions to our country today.

It is Memorial Day weekend, and I can't help but to be reminded of my dear nephew that lost his life for us and our country. As I read his guest book, I was overwhelmed with all the love and wonderful things that was said about Jon Jon. His mom, my sister, still to this day has her days when that's all she can think about and the tears must flow, but we all know that with God's loving mercy and care we will make it through yet another death in our family. Maybe God felt that our mom, his grandmother needed him with her and God especially chose Jon Jon just for that purpose. We love and miss you greatly, and things will never be the same without you. LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! Your Aunt Tammy

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Specialist Smith. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

Happy Birthday son, ( 20th )
I wanted to say Happy Birthday son, you are alway in my heart and on my mind. The most positively competitive person with yourself that I have ever known. Always on the path to be the best at whatever you were attempting to do.
You loved life from the day you were born son, and I have always admired that about you. Never wanted to be involved in negative things. If it couldn't help you build your self asteem, your six pack (abs ) then it was just something that made you happy.
Being a soldier, you was so very proud, and words could never express how proud of you I was, and still remain, not only being a soldier, but being my only son, my laughter and joy even if I didnt feel like laughing, you would make it your duty to get that frown off and put a smile on.
Its hard going day by day and wanting to see you smile, joking around with you me or the family just lying around looking at movies and laughing all together. They say it gets easier but I sure cant tell. Love you so much son!
Longing to hug you,
Sherry Smith

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

As I have read this Guest Book I have seen the love that Jonathan gave out in this life returning to him now. He is a hero in the finest tradition of the United States Army. “Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I seen my sympathy to the family and friends of Lil Smith, as I called him. I was Big Smith, because both of us last name was Smith. That was my running joke with Jon-Jon. He was a great fellow, and he will be truly missed by me. I remember leaving him my Jordans when I left Iraq, so he could be "so fresh and so clean", as he would say. I will never forget you lil Smith, from Big Smith.

I remember when I first met Smitty. He asked where I was from casue he said I was quiet and I looked mean, I replied Fayetteville,North Carolina and we were cool from then on. Sandpiper, Jonie,Johanna, and his Booskie were all I heard about. I distinctly remember on one occasion he was on leave driving to Atlanta before deployment, He called and said SGT my Booskie making drive to NC. I just smiled cause I knew my mother would make me do the same, He just busted out laughing and told me guess what happened at church? He told me some lady was singing in church and she sounded bad and you and jonie busted out laughing.(I hope that put a smile on your face) sorry if it wasn't appropriate!!! You may not me know me mama Smith but he sure made sure I knew you. I send my prayers and love to the family and if you need anything me and my 2 sister Naomie and Contrisha are here for you. Jonjon I just don't know where to begin. It seems just like yesterday you was here with me and we were laughing together. It's crazy how we both being deployed didn't talk as much as when we were at Hood. But I just sit back and think about the many memories we had together. I will always hold them and you close to my heart. Sleep peacefully and I'll see you in the morning. I love you!!

It is with the deepest sadness that I ask the family and friends of SPC Jonathan Smith to accept the offer of my most sincere and heart felt condolences. I hope that you know that your loss is shared and mourned by millions of Americans. Most of whom you don’t know and in all probability will never meet. We sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by your patriot.
Freedom is not free; it is paid for by our heroes!
I know the pain parents feel when they loose a child. I lost a son 19 years ago. It is a pain that defies description. It is a pain that never goes away. It is a pain that will never end. It is a pain that is all consuming. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless and keep you today, tomorrow and forever!

Father we entrust our brother Johathan to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Johnathan in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

For Jonathan's family, I have been trying to contact someone in the family with no success. I want you to know that my son was a very dear friend to Jonathan "Smitty", as he was known to fellow soldiers. They were together daily and strived hard to become the best their platoon had. They worked out almost every night. My son, wishes he could be there and mourns as if he lost his brother. We have a picture that we would love to send and we would also like information on services. I cannot tell you how sorry I am for your loss. What a wonderful, wonderful young man. His advice to my son when things got tough, was "Fight'em with kindness". On behalf of my son and his fellow soldiers, Jonathan will truly be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of
this Brave Young Soldier, Spc. Jonathan K. Smith;
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain
that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface
through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.
May your Jonathan Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and Know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Smith family.
I am the sister, of a 19 Year Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~
I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A Hero to all of us.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

To the family of this soldier that I don't even know his name yet. I know your pain as my son SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III was killed on November 12, 2006 along with his Lt Michael Cerrone. Today Buck would have been 33. I do seek counseling through the VA and God has blessed me with a good church family. Please let me know if ever I can do anything for your family. The loss of a child is great but the blessing that God has given us is greater to know that we will all meet again. May God's healing love comfort you and give you peace in the coming weeks. To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
