I am a former Marine and served in the Army from 2003-2008. By chance, I was able to visit the oh so beautiful Spooner veterans cemetery In April of 2007 only a few days after Cpl. Timberman was buried on his 21st birthday. Has it been almost 10 years already!? Like all Marines, like all servicemen and woman who served and like those who laid down their lives for this great country, they would say that they would do it again and were proud to make the sacrifice. For some reason, I was at the Spooner cemetery and for some reason, I was drawn to his grave. I kind of adopted him as the one that I think of when I think of all who have served and fallen. My heart goes out to his family and all families and loved ones who have lost brave souls like Harry.

To the family of Lance Cpl. Harry H. Timberman:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

Just wanting you to know that Harry is remembered by your many Marine families. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Lest I keep my complacent way I must remember somewhere out there a person died for me today. As long as there must be war, I ask and I must answer Was I Worth Dying For?” Harry reminds me to try to be a person worthy of his sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers remain with you.

I only had a chance to meet him once but he was an amazing person. Maria sits and tells me about how she can remember him cooking french toast and talking with him. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

May 11, 2007
Last month, I drove cross country to Wisconsin. I made an unexpected visit to the Veterans Cemetary in Spooner and visited the grave of Lance Cpl Timberman and many others. This cemetary was so beautiful and peaceful, absolutely amazing. I met a woman there who lost a Brother in Vietnam and trust me, we both had a good cry together. I have a Father who is now 84, a tough former Marine Corps Captain, a WWII and Korea Veteran. His kids are facing the reality of his ultimate passing and plans have been made to lay him to rest in the Sepulveda, Ca Veteran's cemetary. Whether 20 or 84, losing any Marine is not easy and hurts more so, especially when you have worn the uniform. I am a former Marine Corps 0311 rifleman. I joined the Army National Guard at 44 as a calling after 9-11 and after serving for 3 years am transfering into an Army Reserve Military Police Unit. I went to M.P. School at 44 and am now 48. The Marine in me keeps me in great shape and I'm still willing to answer the call to duty and could certainly end up in Iraq myself. For those of you who don't understand all of this, those of us who serve, love our Country and whether we agree with why we are in this war (or any war) or not, we love what we do and would do it over and over! Lance Cpl Timberman didn't die in vain. I know that he died a hero in the hearts and minds of many and if he could speak, he would tell you that he would do it again. I didn't know him. I did, however, have the honor of visiting his grave soon after he died, and the graves of others who make me proud to serve in the Military and make me proud to be a Marine, a US Soldier and an American. One last thought. I was overwhelmed at the amount of tributes to Veteran's across this great country! When I reached Wisconsin I visited the Rice Lake, Veteran's memorial and the Spooner Memorial and the Spooner Veteran's cemetary and the visits left a lasting impression that I will never forget!I know first hand that Lance Cpl Timberman has been laid to rest in a wonderful place and I hope to visit again. God bless America and my heartfelt condolences to his Family and all of the Families of fallen Troops!! Erik Jon Hoffmann

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

My fiance was serving alongside with him when he died. I came across a photo of the two of them the other day. This brought the reality of it all home. I am praying that God will bring comfort and peace to you all. I cannot imagine what you must be going through. May God bless you.

Harry's unit was my old unit - a very long time ago. Seeint 2/7/1 next to his name made me even more sorrowful for the loss of this young Marine.

I am so sorry to hear about another fallen! I know there are no words that I can say to ease your pain! The loss of a child is something that is the most difficult thing to bare. We can only pray that one day we will be together again. I was told that if you stretch a piece of string a mile long and line that string with beads, the beads would resemble eternity. Life here on earth is equal to “only one bead”. We have only a short time here compared to the time we will spend in eternity with our loved ones. The only thing I can say is let faith keep you grounded in your life and hold on to your loved ones! This will help you through! This is what helps me get through my days, I too have lost. My son entered into the Heavens to be with our Lord!
God Bless Your Family!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To Harry's Family and friends, the poem above is something I saw fitting to this sad occasion. It hopefully will give you some sort of peace when you think of your son. He died a hero fighting for a country in which he believed. He will always be remembered with a smile on his face. Please remember you are not alone in mourning your son. The world mourns with you and so do we. We all feel your pain and are here for you if you ever need anything.

There is no greater gift then a person who gives their life for another. You will never know the magintude of what Harry has done for others, but know in your heart that Harry has played a part in making life better for others in a land far from ours, as well as in our own home. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I thank you for giving us a man, in your son, that loved his fellow man enough to risk and ultimately give his life so that others may, not just live, but live a better life. Even though many of us never met him, he has touched us all. We live free because of him, and men and women like him. Thank you for sharing him with the world, and may God bless you and your family. Dear Timberman Family,
I an indeed saddened by the death of L/Cpl. Timberman. To me he was a brother. I served with 2/7 in Vietnam (1968-1969). I can tell you in truth that I know and feel your pain.
My only son, L/Cpl. Carl L. Raines II, was killed by a roadside bomb on 10-06-05 in Qaim Al Anbar Province. Not a day goes by that I don't remember the bright, wonderful young man that was taken to Heaven on that day. I wish I could somehow offer words to help ease your pain. Unfortunately, I still search for them personally.
Remember him for the good things he did for others. Keep that special place in your hearts open and remember, that death can never destroy the memories of this newly assigned angel. Semper Fi my brother! Rest in peace! Carl L. Raines, Sr.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
