To the family of Staff Sgt. Darrell R. Griffin:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

To the family of Griff I am so sorry. To Diana,(sigh) I think of you every night. I pray that your finding some peace in your heart. I never got to thank you personally for coming to visit me while Mikayla was in the hospital. You and Darrell were the only people who came to see me. Matt was not even able to leave from PLDC. It's true that a military family is stronger than blood. Thank you so much for taking the time to care about others. Darrell will be greatly missed and I am sure he is obove looking down on everyone. I also hope that you get a chance to read all the websights set up in his memory. I wish I could just give you a big hug right now. Hopefully our paths will meet again! Love you!

August 22, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

darrell was my cousin. and i will love and miss him always. i always use to think this wont happen to my cousin it may happen to others but not mine. but when it happens then you finally understand how much it hurts to loose someone so close to you in war. Darrell was a very strong man, he was loving and caring towards others.

Darrell is my cousin and my hero.I miss him a lot and i sometimes think about him on and off.I wish he could come down from heaven so we can all say good-bye.When i heard that my cousin had passed away i was crying so hard. And if you had gone to the funneral it was very dramatic you would just look around seeing people crying. My cousin Maya and i were really upset and just looking around it made you cry even more.
I remember when i was little and me, my sister, and my cousins markie and maya would tackle him and then he would flex his arm and we would swing on his arms and then we would all fall............age 12

Please accept my deepest sympathy. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I met Darrell in 1990 and we became close friends. We had a lot in common as I was working towards some of the same goals he was. I will always remember him - and wished I could have had the chance to say "Thank you Darrell for your advice and for touching my life and for encouraging me to see my goals through and that I could do anything I wanted as long as I believed." Darrell was one of the people in my life that made a difference in the way I looked at my life. I always wondered what had happened to Darrell and when I saw the video I was deeply saddened - but I was proud of him and felt that he was doing something he strongly believed in. May you rest in peace my dearest friend.

I've read Darrell's story in Newsday and his courage and ability to do what he did on a daily basis is truly inconceivable. I am so very grateful for his (and all his fallen comrades') sacrifice, and I hope you know while not everyone may know of this particular soldier's name or contributions, he, as well as all the others, are thought of and thanked greatly, by myself and Americans across the world. Thank you, Staff Sargent Darrell R. Griffin, for your selflessness over the years. And thank you to your family and friends left behind. Stay strong and never forget that Darrell will always be with you in heart and spirit - he's only a thought away. All my deepest and warmest regards ...

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

1. Darrell, I will miss you and your very educated mind very much. You have filled and educated my life with your infinite wisdom in the field, as we pulled radio watch together; and in garrison as you peeked your head-in my office to tell me about one of your favorite philospher-Nietzsche. I thought you were OCD with this guy!
2. I have to buy the book now to find out what is so fascinating about him!
3. Thank you for your friendship, loyalty, kindness, strength and motivation.
4. Ms. D, You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Please extend my condolences again to Darrell Sr.

Staff Sgt. Darrell R. Griffin
you are my hero
may god keep you in his arms forever.

March 29, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
Proud Parents of SFC Brent A. Adams, KIA, 12/1/05, Ramadi, Iraq

I know the pain you are going through to have loss of life. I don't know if this soldier is male or female but I do know that it's someones child. As the mother of another fallen soldier, my son SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III was killed in action along with his Lt Michael Cerrone on November 12, 2006. I know that my son is in his heavenly home with God and that we will one day be together again. There is a process of grieving you must go through but at anytime if I can be of help to you please let contact me. May God surround you with His healing love and give you the comfort you will need in the coming weeks.

March 23, 2007

It is with the deepest sadness that I ask the family and friends of this brave young Soldier to accept the offer of my most sincere and heart felt condolences. I hope that you know that your loss is shared and mourned by millions of Americans. Most of whom you don’t know and in all probability will never meet. We sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by your patriot.

Freedom is not free; it is paid for by our heroes and for those who fight for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know! This soldier made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

I know the pain parents feel when they loose a child. I lost a son 19 years ago. It is a pain that defies description. It is a pain that never goes away. It is a pain that will never end. It is a pain that is all consuming.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

May God Bless and keep you today, tomorrow and forever!

Rest in Peace brave soldier; you did your duty with great honor, dedication, distinction and in the highest traditions of our great country.
