Staff Sgt. Marcus A. Golczynski

Marcus A. Golczynski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2007.
In a recent e-mail to his family, Marcus A. Golczynski said he was following orders because he believed what he was doing was right. "Many of us volunteered to do this a second time due to our deep desire to finish the job we started. We fight and sometimes die, so our families don''t have to." Golczynski, 30, of Lewisburg, Tenn., was shot dead while on patrol in Fallujah on March 27. He was on his second tour and was assigned to Nashville. The 1995 high school graduate was recognized as the sixth best wrestler in the state during his senior year. He later was a manager of a Ruby Tuesday. "He put everybody first," Jill Golczynski said of her brother-in-law. "I know he treated his Marines like family and that''s why he''s no longer with us." Marilyn Shelton, a former co-worker, said he was a "gung-ho Marine" and a patriot but also someone who made the workday easier for those around him. "He made the day light," Shelton said. "Everything was fun with Marc." He is survived by his son, Christian, 8. "Marc was a wonderful father," said his mother, Elaine Huffines. "I''ll miss watching him help his son grow up to be a good man like he was."

Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Marcus A. Golczynski US Marine Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I saw Marcus remembered tonight on Nancy Grace. I looked him up and felt the need to send you my deepest sympathy. Although I never knew Marcus personally, I know the pain. I lost a dear friend, Sgt David Coullard, USMC Sniper on 8/1/05. You never fully recover from such a loss... but time slowly heals to allow more smiles than tears. The sacrifice Marcus & many others have made for our freedom requires our committment to keeping their memory alive. Christian is a lucky boy to have a hero for a dad. I am sure Marcus is his angel. Semper Fi & my deepest sympathy to Marcus' family & friends.

One year ago the devistation that hit my heart was unreal. I know that you never in a million years thought you would be looked at as an American hero, but everywhere I go I hear of the picture of Christian and his hero father. That thought always puts a smile on face that people around the world know you and know your sacrifice.
You will always be remebered, you will always be loved , it is that simple!

Ski,

I recall what happened one year ago like a very strange dream, stuck in the recesses of my mind as something I can neither forget nor want to remember. Since that day I've tried to live a good life and, in part, make this world better as much as I can because I know you did the same. I often think I'm not doing so well in this endeavor, even as I keep trying. I wish I could ask you how you were able to do this so effortlessly, but then again I realize that you'd probably just tell me a weird joke that tickles the humor, and just leave it at that. Thinking of this does make the hard days easy, and it helps me stay strong when friends of mine are put through similar adversity. I think you, Marc, for giving not only myself, but countless other Marines the same strength that helped us not only finish our tour in Iraq, but go out into the world with a little more light in our souls. Thank you for this, and I'll keep trying to be a better man.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Mere words can not express the sense of loss or the gratitude for all those who fought for what this country stands for and the freedoms that we sometimes take for granted. My heart goes out to the family and to the brave little man that I saw in the photo this morning on television. Years ago I wrote this poem and I would like to share it with you.

"Freedom's Heart"
By Brenda Lynch

You are my brother, my sister, my father, my son.
My uncle, my aunt, my daughter and mother everyone.
Related by your courage, your strength - the blood that you've shed
for the love of this country and the flag overhead.
Mere words are not enough to express it - it's just talk.
How do I show my gratitude for those who have walked your walk?
To those who came before and those who shall follow you,
I give you my heart and stand proud for what you do.
For the price that you pay and all that you give -
I laugh, I cry, I love and in freedom I live.
So how could you not be - my sister, my brother?
For no greater love has a man than to lay down his life for another.

You are in my prayers, you are appreciated and you are much loved.

To the Golczynski family; I previously signed Marcus's guest book. Christian I saw you and your mom on the Good Morning America show today. You are one brave young man and I know you will take care of your mom. Christian you said you want to be a Marine. The Marines got one of the best when your dad joined, but wait until they get you. You will do very well. Make your dad proud of you always. Christian your dad is my hero and he will NEVER be forgotten but I have to tell you that you are my hero as well. I have a picture of Christian receiving the flag from Marc's coffin up in my kitchen. It was on the front page of one of our local papers, The Minneapolis Star Tribune. It is entitled "On Behalf of a Grateful Nation...". I have it there to remind myself and my eleven-old son that freedom is not free...and that sacrifices are made every day to maintain it. Furthermore, the problems we face every single day are all relative. Christian is a strong boy and should be proud of his father who volunteered for a second tour to finish a job. I hope some day my son and I have the chance to meet him and pay our respects to his father. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult transition. Most sincerely, Mike

I am so sorry to hear about another fallen! I know there are no words that I can say to ease your pain! The loss of a child is something that is the most difficult thing to bare. We can only pray that one day we will be together again. I was told that if you stretch a piece of string a mile long and line that string with beads, the beads would resemble eternity. Life here on earth is equal to “only one bead”. We have only a short time here compared to the time we will spend in eternity with our loved ones. The only thing I can say is let faith keep you grounded in your life and hold on to your loved ones! This will help you through! This is what helps me get through my days, I too have lost. My son entered into the Heavens to be with our Lord!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
