Christopher T. Neiberger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2007.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) A 22-year-old soldier was killed in Iraq from injuries suffered by an improvised explosive device, his family and the military said Tuesday. Spc. Christopher T. Neiberger, 22, of Gainesville, died Monday, the Department of Defense said. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany. Neiberger was born in the Bronx but was raised in Gainesville, his sister, Ami Neiberger-Miller told The Associated Press. Her brother graduated from Gainesville High School in 2003 and attended Florida State University for two years before joining the Army in 2005, Neiberger-Miller said. "He always wanted to be a soldier. He was the kind of person who grew up loving to play with things that crackled and exploded," Neiberger-Miller said. "He was very drawn to the military." Neiberger had been in Iraq since Sept. 2006 and was serving a 15-month tour, his sister said. The soldier, known by family members as "the master of one-liners" was considering going to West Point and making the military his career, Neiberger-Miller said. "He was very much in the moment," Neiberger-Miller said. "He was proud to be a soldier." Besides his sister, Neiberger is survived by two brothers, his father, Richard, and his mother Mary. A memorial service will be held Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville. Neiberger will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C., his sister said.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Mary,
I remember, with such sadness, when this happened last year. I didn't
know Chris, but had heard enough about him to know what an awesome
young man he must be. I so wanted to be at his memorial on the 12th,
but couldn't because of family obligations. I followed the news stories
that I could catch and, over the months, have often thought of Chris
and his family.
Then a few weeks ago, I met you for the first time. Over the past few
weeks I have gotten to know you and witnessed your humor and vitality
for life, and I am struck with such awe at your courage and strength. I
have wanted to reach out to you and share with you all these things,
but didn't know how appropriate it might be, I didn't want to upset
you. But today, I just couldn't get it off my mind. I pray for these kids and their families, those I know, those I don't. I have such respect and honor for them. And today, a year later, seemed an appropriate and heartfelt, time to share this with you. My heart and
prayers continue to go out to you and your family, Mary. 08-06-08

On memorial Day our church passed out flags with the name of fallen heros from several war efforts. We were honored to find our flag had the name Christopher T. Neiberger. Although we did not know him we are proud of his service and will fly our flag knowing he paid the ultimate price for us to remain free. My family honors you.

Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved son & brother. My family visited Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day. I was so struck as I approached your son gravesite and witnessed what I believe to be was his devoted sister laying at her beloved brothers grave. It shook me to my core....... I took numerous photographs there yesterday but none made an impact as the one I took of her.....I stared at it for hours last night and just wept. My heart goes out to all of you and I will forever remember this moment and your beloved son.......This morning via the Internet I read many articles on your son and his life. What an amazing soul he was!

Me, a total stranger from PA.......but the Mother of a son just the same......and a grateful and humble American who shares your pain and appreciates the brave, unselfish service of your son and ALL soldiers of this great country.. God Bless you all and may you find peace by the power of God's Love......

I am so sorry for the loss. I saw his sister on a special today about Arlington. Her devotion and passion was so apparent. Again, my deepest sympathy to his family for his loss. May he rest in peace.

I served my military carrer with chris we were in the same platoon in basic training and when we were sent to Germany we were also in the same platoon Chris was allways filled with cheer and had a gift of being able to bring a smile to anyone face no matter what mood they were in. always a happy outgoing type of guy witout a worrie in the world even while in iraq. chris truly believed that by him being there he was going to make a difference. he really wanted to help. there are so many great things i could say about chris and not really any bad things. chris you were my friend and i will allways remember you. and whom ever you met you left a lasting impression.

Chris and I were in the same Patrol in Troop 454 and in my first few years of Scouting, he was always a leader to me. He was the person I looked at on how to conduct myself, and also how to have a great time. I remember when he protected the flag from a rainstorm at summer camp and when he boasted pizza and pie at his Eagle Project. When I last saw him before Christmas in 2006, I was proud to say that I knew a person with such character and integrity.

I didn't know Chris, but I met his sister Ami at Arlington Cemetery a few weeks ago. My cousin Scott was killed in Iraq 5 days after Chris was. After talking with Ami, we decided that, although Chris and Scott didn't know each other in this world, they are most certainly friends now. Please know that you all and Chris are in my thoughts every day.

Dear Ami,

Please convey to your family our deepest sympathies on the loss of your brother Chris. It is a pain that will never be forgotten, but I pray that the memory of the kind of man Chris was will grant all of you great solace in the future. Everyone at Sister Cities of Louisville loves you and has all your family in our thoughts and prayers. Our only comfort is that we know working for peace is the only way to end the divides among all peoples and the resulting death and destruction they bring. I read about Chris' passions and his "wicked sense of humor." I know you will someday share more about your brother with us who love you and grieve with you now.

The Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Ami, Please know that you and your family are in the hearts and prayers of a huge family of people around the world who know and love you through Sister Cities International. All of us who continue to believe in President Eisenhower's dream fifty years ago that we can best achieve world peace by encouraging people around the world to meet each other, and to form friendships that help us better understand, appreciate and respect each other's ethnic and cultural differences, feel a very special sadness that we have lost yet another of our brave soldiers in world conflict. It is particularly painful to all of us, of course, that this brave young soldier was your brother Chris. We all love you, Ami, and feel that we too have lost a brother. May you and your family find strength in each other's love and in the pride you feel and all the wonderful memories you share of Chris at this very painful time. We are all with you ... and love you ... and we promise you that your losing Chris will inspire us all even more to work hard for world peace

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Neiberger Family, I attended Chris' most beautiful memorial service yesterday. I was one of the "Scruffy"veterans of "Rolling Thunder Veterans group", Florida Chap. 7 in black vests whose military bearing now is slightly tarnished, but who's hearts shine with the love of our fallen comrades, and the well being of those surviving Our purpose is to preserve the memories of those that were either missing in action or prisoners of war. We activly make our objectives known by our leaders and legislators, keeping these issues alive. We clutter Wash D C with the roar of our motorcycles and plea's for action.We still feel obligated to preserve our Chrisian Heritage, Our Hallowed Constitution and will continue, even fight if we must. Our deepest sympathy to the Neiberger family for the loss of such a fine young man in the performance of duty to his country. When we teach this ethic to our Scouts, we know such a sacrifice is possible, but we are deeply saddened when it becomes a reality.

We are deeply sorry for your heartache and loss. We are impressed by the many military tributes to Chris, even from others who have also lost their patriotic sons. May the donations to Casa del Rey pour in so the mission work Chris started will continue to keep his name and memory alive for years to come.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Chris' family. You have suffered a devastaing loss of a truly remarkable young man. He will truly be missed by all. My son attended GHS and knew Chris. My son's name is Brandon Hixson ( Cornbread ). Brandon said he was a really awesome guy and my son looked up to him. Chris was 2 years older than Brandon. Please accept our condolences. He will be missed by many and always in our fondest memories. God Bless your family and God bless Chris!!!

Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy regarding the loss of Spc. Christopher T. Neiberger, with so much gratitude for this Fine Young Soldier's Courage, Dedication and Service to our Country and for Freedom.

May Christopher rest safely now, in God's Care and know that he is a True American hero, that shall Never Be Forgotten.
May the Peace of the Lord be with the Neiberger family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways, to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes, for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

"And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes,
there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying,
there shall be no more pain.
For the former things have have passed away."
Revelations 21:4

May you find peace in knowing the love and memories you have, will remain in your heart forever and that this Country Will Remember the Sacrifice Christopher has made.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

No greater gift can be given then to lay down your life for your fellow man. Your sacrifice is appreciated and your life is of great value. Many thanks and may God bless your family.

What can I say or do to take away the pain, nothing, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
