Thank you all for honoring Alun over the years. His brother, Paul, set up a Facebook page which is called In Memory of Alun Howells-Soldier, brother, son, friend. Rest in Peace Many of Alun's friends and family have posted on that site too over the years, and it's always a comfort to us that people have not forgotten.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Howells Family know that we recently made a small donation to Wreaths For Warriors Walk at Fort Stewart in honor of Alun R. Howells US Army Specialist. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

We visited Aluns memorial in Borth y Gest again this year. We noticed that the stone was sinking & grass growing over it. We therefore took the liberty of raising it up slightly & tidying around it. We'll look again on our next visit. Tony & Judith Grey

For Alun:
it would take a thousand lifetimes
before i could even begin to convey
the loss, the regret, the sorrow, the fury
the part of me that died that day
if i could trade all the fractured moments and foolish choices i have made
i'd forsake it all, if it gave me only one more day
to tell you all the things i never had the time or courage to say
how you changed my life, and i miss you every day
to tell you that i'm sorry that i chose to take this path
and chose to leave behind the greatest life i could have had
to tell you that i loved you
then, now, and always
and if i could i would have
gone with you on that day
-in loving memory

My wife & I saw the plaque to Alun in Borth y Gest Churchyard. Intrigued as to why this young American soldier is remembered in this beautiful place we researched him & discovered that, as a 'true Welshman' his ashes were spread here. Tomorrow I take part in 'The Ride to The Wall' this brave young man shall be in my thoughts as I pay my respects to the fallen.

Dear Alun,
Today, on a beautiful Memorial Day, I stood in your honor and thought of the ultimate sacrifice you have given to your family, friends, community, and country. I cried for you today, as I thought of you and your courage and faithfulness.
I want you to know that you have not been forgotten, even though you have left us. I want you to know that from today forward, I will think of you often, and always whisper your name on Memorial Day.
I can not begin to thank you enough for the gift of my freedom in this wonderful country of ours. I am forever in your debt.
Rest in peace, mighty warrior.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Alun, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Alun Howells was the most amazing man I have ever known. Through the three years that I was lucky enough to be with him I learned so much. It was an honor to call him "my own." I am so thankful for, and greatly appreciate, both him and his sacrifice more than I can ever explain. Thank you, Alun, for your love, commitment and sacrifice. You are greatly missed, every moment, of every day. I will always love you!

Dear Jaena, Gwyn, Paul, Sian and Dafydd, Our hearts are truly broken and forever wounded from this tragic loss of Alun. You have been a tremendous and joyful part of Peter's and my lives for years now, and not one of these cherished memories will ever be forgotten. Your overwhelming sacrifice is beyond words right now although, we thank you and applaud your remarkable courage, sacrifice, loyalty and devotion. Somewhere I've read, that for every tear shed, another heartfelt wish is sent to each of the loved one for whom you are grieving. I can only hope that our continued tears will join the already formed and enormous flowing river of tears, to help carry you over and through this most difficult of life's journeys. Water is the most powerful of nature's forces that we have in our world, which I find truly fitting for Alun. You are loved by so many and from every part of the world. I can only hope that our sincerest love, sorrow and appreciation for Alun and all of you whom he loved so dearly, will be of some comfort and support to you, while you take these next steps and all additional steps, as you wander further along life's unpredictable path. I wish that I had met both Sian and Dafydd, but I have heard the love for you from your brother's, Paul and Alun. Always and forever, embedded in our hearts and minds, Maggie Sirles-Hamley and Peter Hamley

What can I say about "The Salsa King"? He was truly one of the funniest people I've ever known--a true life of the party--believe me, I have footage! The short time spent with him will last me the rest of my life and I can't wait to see him again! He was truly a remarkable young man--his parents did an excellent job! When I start to get down about him, all I have to do is pop in that video and all I can do is laugh! That's the kind of effect he had on us here at Fort Stewart. We were his family away from family, and I hope you can take some comfort in knowing how much he meant to us, because I know he was more than dear to you!

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, to learn of the loss of another Brave Young Colorado Soldier. As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly, and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war, I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing. The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes. Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
May Spc. Alun R. Howells Rest safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten and I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Howells family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
and He shall sustain thee."

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A True American Hero to all of us.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
August 17, 2007
There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
