Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Garrett I. McLead US Army Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

He was an amazing human being. I had loving working beside him anywhere that we could. I always remember his good character and never stop laughing about some personal stuff that we shared sometimes while we served together in Hawaii, Afghanistan and Iraq..

Garrett will forever be one of my favorite people. Never in my life have I met anyone who shone as brightly as he did. I still remember swim parties at the lake/pond and the way Garrett and Cody would make me laugh when nothing else could.

You will forever be loved and missed, Garrett.

I went and spent some time with him when I was in Rockport last. I sat on the little bench with my husband, cried a bit, then told him about all of our crazy band stories and was able to laugh. I now work for Corpus Christi Army Depot as ...a Blackhawk Configuration analyst, and there's a little memorial of him, Matt, and other service members from our area. I walk a little taller when I pass it because I know that his sacrifice stands for so much: the fact I'm able to sit here and share this story, free as a bird. The world is a better place because of him and people like him that make it safe for us to live. I will be lighting a candle at Mass this next Sunday in memorial of such a wonderful human being that could bring a smile to anyone he met.

To The McLead Family; I want to share with you that on Saturday, August 21, 2010, I ran in the Watermelon 5k Race for The Fallen in Hempstead Texas and was assigned your Son's Name and Photo to wear on my shirt during 3.2 miles of the Race.
It was one of my most "Honored" moments in my 56 yrs. here on this Great Earth of ours. The Race Course was lined with the 544 Texans who have Fallen in the Iraq & Afghanistan Wars. Beside each picture was an American Flag. My Heart & Prayers go out to and your Family and a Great Thanks for his (Garrett's) service to our Country. I have a nephew, Sgt. William Harris who is on his 4th Tour over there and so we to are a Proud Family of a Soldier in harms way.
May God continue to Bless and Comfort you in years to come. With overwhelming Love & Respect, Dave Harris, Houston Texas

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

In Memory of Garrett ~ (Debra Estep)

August 22, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Garrett, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Words can not describe how sorry I am for your loss.....I first met Garrett when I reported to Fort Benning for basic training in 2002. I was in the same company as him. Delta 2/58. Garrett was an amazing person who personally helped me get through those ruff times at basic...whether it was making me laugh until my stomach hurt, or giving me a pep talk on how to "drive on"
I regret to say I never stayed in contact with Garrett after we both went our separate ways upon graduating basic. Whenever I think of basic training, Garrett always came to mind.
I normally would check the CNN Iraq war casualties page every so often to check on the people I remember so well....to make sure they were absent from that list....tonight my heart honestly took a serious blow when I looked under the M. category to see Garrett's face. I am so sorry for your loss.....Even though I only knew Garrett for a few months, he will forever be missed.

Deepest sympathy's,

Patrick, Patti and Mason,
Words cannot begin to describe the pain you must be feeling. I cannot begin to imagine the pain you are suffering. My heart aches for you all. There are no words that will make you feel better. While Garrett has paid the ultimate sacrifice, so too have the three of you. I pray your life will again find peace. I know Garrett will be with you all always. Patti & Patrick, you raised a wonderful young man. You should take heart in knowing how very generous and giving your son was. I know you all are very proud. I pray for your peace of mind. I pray for the strenght for you all to carry on. It will get better. I pray no one ever forget the many soliders that have passed before Garrett, for Garrett and the unfortunate who will follow after. I pray for a quick end to all of this madness. I pray that all of our soliders come home soon. I know Garrett is with Jesus and is well taken care of. I pray that Jesus will bless you and hold you tight in his arms until you are ready to go on. The journey ahead will be difficult, however, Garrett and our Lord will be there to help you. If you need a friend to lean on, just call.
May God Bless you all.

I served with Garrett in C CO 2-35 INF for OEF5 in Afghanistan. We were in different platoons and were not close, but I did have the honor of serving with him. He was an outstanding soldier and just a damn good kid. You will be missed McLead. Godspeed my brother.

September 3, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Garrett, the man, but I did know Garrett, the child. Garret and his brother, Mason, were part of my daycare babies. Garrett was 2 and Mason 6 months when I started providing for their care. Garrett was full of energy and inseparable from his daycare buddy, Mickey. He was a beautiful child and a real joy to have around. I will always miss the child, was privileged to meet the man, and feel honored to have had Garrett out there protecting our country.

May God grant Patrick, Patti and Mason peace and love.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

September 2, 2007

To the family of Sgt. Garrett McLead,

I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to you and to Garrett for his service to our great country. My husband Martin was friends with him and served with him in Charlie company 2-35. Even when he went to Scouts, they remained friends. I had the priviledge of making Garrett's acquaintance through my husband and our friends. He was a groomsman at my husband's best friends' wedding here in Hawaii. He loved Hawaii, the sand, the sun, the surfing. Garrett was often found on a saturday morning trooping through the woods on Schofield playing paintball with the gang.
I love our soldiers, they are all brothers, and are treated as such by me. I am so proud of our boys that words fail me. Garrett falls into that small group of those boys that I know personally. I am so proud to have known him. For Sgt. Martin Pruner and myself, Sherri Pruner, Sgt. Adam Williams and his wife Sarah, and James Washington and his wife Katie, we will not forget Garrett. His name will always touch our lips when we talk of our time in Hawaii and remember the good times, and those from here that we lost.
With Heartfelt Aloha,
Sherri Pruner

August 30, 2007

Dear Patrick and Paticia,
Please forgive the intrusion into this time of your unimanageable sorrow and accept this weak attempt at consoling your grief at the loss of your son Garrett, who sarificed his life defending the freedoms we gratefully acknowledge and enjoy in America. If it were not for the the ultimate sacrifice made by generations of brave and unselfish soldiers like your son, those freedoms would only be illusions. However I recognize that this task of consoling can only truly be accomplished by The Lord God Himself. May He help you find the strength to endure this tragedy, and flood your mind with memories of the unconditional love shared by parents and their children, and of the good times that love fostered between yourselves and Garrett.
Personally, my acquaintance with Garrett came through stories related by my wife, (Tootsie McLead Bleicher) and Garrett’s grand parents, (Tootsie’s Uncle Norm and Aunt Faye-Faye McLead) during the weeks they spent at our home in Jupiter, Florida visiting Tootsie’s dad, (Uncle Norm’s older brother), Mac, who chose to spend the last months of his life in our home, surrounded by his children, grand-children, brother and other family members here in Jupiter.
It is not without an acquaintance with the pain of loss that I write these words, as my younger brother, by 14 months (and best friend ) died in a tragic accident in March of this year and it was only my Faith that allowed me to remain strong for my Mother, for his children, (the oldest my God-Son), and for my other brother and sisters at a time in whcich it seemed chaos ruled. I believe it was God who brought order to this chaos, and my gratitude for His intervention has been remembered in prayers every day since.
Tootsie and Tara will make the trip to Rockport later this week to personally pay their respects to Garrett, yourselves and the rest of your family. I will not be able to make the trip but felt the need to express my feelings to bear witness to the fact that Garrett’s sacrifice, as your own, is recognized, appreciated and keenly felt even by people who never knew your son personally.

With Sincere Condolonces, May the Peace of the Lord Strengthen You

Bill Bleicher, Tootsie McLead Bleicher, & Tara McLead Bleicher

I am writing to offer my condolences to you and your family over the loss of your son Sgt Garrett I McLead. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a child.

When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit
GOD Bless you and your family. Your son was a true American Hero and we are all very proud of his service.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of Sgt. Garrett I. McLead. As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and having lost a brother to war...I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing. The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes. Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.

May the memories of your Brave Young Soldier, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days ahead, and may Garrett Rest Safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the McLead family.

I am the sister, of such a young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Sgt. Garret McLead and Family:

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
