Nathan Z. Thacker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2007.
In their last conversation, Nathan Z. Thacker told his mother he was in a safe zone and not to worry. "He believed in doing his duty," said his father, Stephen Thacker. "He was afraid to go over there, but like he said, 'It's my job now, and I need to do it.' He was very duty-conscious, a good boy." Thacker, 18, of Greenbrier, Ark., was killed Oct. 12 in Kirkuk when an explosive detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to Fort Drum. Thacker participated in the local Future Farmers of America chapter. "He was just one of those you could count on to be in class and do his work. He was not disruptive," said David Westenhover, his former principal. "Citizenship was definitely a plus for him." He got his General Educational Development diploma last year. Westenhover describes a young man that did his best, but also did everything with a smile. "He was a bit of clown," Westenhover said, "But only in a good way." He also is survived by his mother, Darlene. "Nathan was an excellent man," sister Sabrina Black said. "He loved me, I loved him, and I'd give anything to have him back."

To the parents and family of Nathan Thacker. I am the father of Christopher Guidry (a fellow soldier of Nathan's from the 'triple-duce,' that was with your son in the Humvee that fateful day - 12OCT2007). Please know that all of you and Nathan, are, and always will be, in my thoughts and prayers. I think of Nathan often and am very sincerely sorry for your loss - words will never be able to truly express my heartbreak for the loss of your 18-year-old budding flower.

It has been 8 years and I miss you everyday. The last memory I have of you was right before you deployed. You came to see us and told us about your deployment. You were so excited and couldn't wait to serve our country. Mom hugged you and said she couldn't wait for you to come home. Your response was "I'm not coming home." We didn't believe it until we got the call. That was the hardest news. I was only 13, but now I'm married and my husband is a soldier and it really hits home. Joshua's unit is deploying soon and I am terrified to get that call again. The only thing giving me hope is knowing you can watch over him and his unit.
I love you Nathan and miss you every day!

well bubba another year has come and gone and I still can't believe you are gone and for 6 years now. sometimes i still swear I can see you in the distance walking ahead of me, if i could only catch up i have so much to tell you. i miss you. so much. i love you brother losing you was like getting half of me ripped away. you were it, my only sibling and sometimes i get angry that i will never get to be an aunt to your crazy children. that you won't ever get to have a talk with the man i love. but i know you would be punching my arm if you were here in the flesh. so i will dry my eyes and remember your smile and know that you are probably somewhere fishing.

Me and Nathan really wasn't related but he lived with us for 4 years and i grew up so close to him he was like a big brother i never had and i love and miss here every day. The last thing he said to me and my sister was that he loved us and would see us soon. A month or so after that on my 13 birthday my dad came out to tell me happy birthday and told me he had some bad news that Nathan had been killed that morning. There's nothin worse than losing a brother on your 13th birthday. RIP NATHAN Z. THACKER I LOVE AND MISS U SO MUCH.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nathan, but I am remembering

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family of Nathan. This morning in church our Pastor gave out the names of some of the fallen that we could pray for and honor on this Memorial Day. Our family picked Nathan's paper and my heart was so saddened for such a young man who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I have two sons and want you to know his service is something to be proud of. Our family will honor Nathan tomorrow and we will be praying that God will bring peace and comfort to you this Memorial Day.

To the family and parents of Nathan, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many question as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There are no right or wrong ways to grieve, it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I was not as close as I 'ld like to have been to Nathan. I watched him grow up at a distance. I saw many horrendouse stumbing blocks thrown in his path as he struggled to grow up. There was a time, that I feared he might be lost to us all. Thru the love of a wonderful family, the Thackers, he grew to be a man. He rose above his early childhood and became a man To be respected. A man who would willing die to protect his country. That't You & Me! A HERO! And I am so very, very, proud of him! In our talks over the last couple of years I learned that he was a warm, caring, loving young man. I'll sure miss him dropping by the farm. I love you Nathan and you will allways be in my memory. To the Thackers I'ld like to offer my deepest condolences and my Heartfelt thanks for what your loving family gave to a member of my family that was in dire need of love, caring and understanding. He found that with you. It was evident in every word he said in every converstion. Because of you and yours, Nathan IS A HERO! Nathan, your My Hero! Aunt Robyn

I never was afforded the pleasure of knowing Nathan in his young adult life but, knew him in his youth of eight years. He was a very positive force in my life and he was always glad to spend time with his anut Tina and myself. Dispite having a "rough row to hoe" Nathan pulled himself up by his boot straps and, with the superb guidance and roll model provided by the Thacker family, made himself into a fine and admirable young man. I am very proud of Nathan and the service he performed for our country, and will miss him dearly. Farewell from your uncle Gus, until we meet again in the arms of our Lord.

Our family's heart and prayer's go out to all of the family members of PFC Nathan Thacker. Our Son Kyle is part of the Fort Drum 2nd Battalion, 22nd INF-1st Squad of the 10th Mtn Div. As a Soldier's Mother, my heart stopped when the phone rang and it was the Army informing me that one our units Soldiers had been killed. My son always tells me that in the unit they are all like brothers. My tears fall for my son's brother Nathan who has lost his life fighting for our freedom. May God watch over all of our son's and daughter's and their families and may he give us the strength we need to endure this time of mourning as well as the next 14 months.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4
What a wonderful thought...
May God bless Pvt Nathan Z. Thacker, God bless you and your family and God bless America!

To the family and friends of Pvt. Thacker. I am very saddened to hear about your loose. Although I didn't know Pvt. Thacker personally I do know the men he was fighting with, I was leaving Nathan's unit when he was coming in, having fulfilled my obligation to the "Triple Duce" "Destroyers". Nathan will never be forgotten. He is a True Hero and a great Soldier. My Heart and prayers go out to your family. To Nathan “Deeds not Words” Brother, Now you have a bigger mission with a higher CO, Fall In Soldier!!

October 15, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Father we entrust our brother Nathan to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Nathan in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Private Thacker. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We also just lost a great hero in our family, just as I sure Nathan was. On Oct 1, Gunnery Sgt. Herman J. Murkerson went on before Nathan. These guys are true HERO's for all Americans. With out what they do we would not have our freedom. I am so sorry for you loss.

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. He is an American Hero. I am having a hard time finding words that may help during this time. My son was killed in Mosul Sept. 18, 2007. What I can say is trust in the Lord for He is good! Hold close your family and friends for they will give comfort. Remember always the good times and fun you had. My heart does ache for you at this time and you are in my prayers. God bless your son Nathan for his service and sacrifice to this great country and each and every one of us

My deepest sympathy for the family and friends of this great American Hero. May God comfort you during these most difficult days of your lives. As the parent of a fallen soldier, I understand the great loss you are enduring. Know in your hearts that Nathan is the arms of our Lord. His service to our country will never be forgotten. I wish there were words to lesson your pain or give you confidence that everything will return to normal. So many lives are affected when a soldier falls, his family, friends, brothers-in-arms, and those he should be here to meet. Those who choose to serve are truely the greatest this nation has to offer.
Stand down soldier, the line is held you are relieved.

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Pvt Nathan Z Thacker. He was so young.

I also lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.

When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

GOD Bless you and your family. Your soldier was a true American Hero and we are all very proud of his service.
