Another year, and you are still in my thoughts and prayers. When I think about you, I always remember OCS and all the fun times we had trying to make it through the stress. "I want my woobie" always plays in my mind. I still remember the day we found out about your passing. I wish that I could have made it down from Baghdad to be with your body and help your Soldiers deal with your loss. You are forever in my heart.

To the family of Tracy, I have been trying to gather some information about Tracy's life before the Military as I am writing an article about what happened that night and I would love to put in some happy memories and hobbies about her. Not a day goes by that I do not think about her and that night, and I feel like if I can do this for her I can get some peace for myself. I just want people to know what kind of person she was. if you are willing to to let me do this please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you and God bless.

It has truly been my honor to sign Tracy's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Tracy will always be remembered in my home.

To the family of 2nd Lt. Tracy Lynn Alger:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Alger Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

I will never forget 2nd LT. Alger Nov.1st is the worst day of the year for me. I know it must be a very hard day for her family as well. Society needs to know the lost of female soldiers in combat. We all knew what could happen when we left out on mission. Her and I shared a bunk in Kuwait and I was on mission with her she very very professional and a true soldier. I will honor her for the rest of my life. SGT Terri Cannell

Today my current university, Northeastern State, Like UW-River Falls and 180 other universities, is participating in the National Roll Call on college campuses across the nation of the 6,200 men and women lost in the War in Terror. I've requested the privilege of specifically reading Lt. Alger's name during this ceremony. I did not know her personally, but she attended UWRF during my tenure there, and I also am an alumnus. You are in the hearts and memories of all veterans today and every day, Lt. Alger. Thanks for your service and sacrifice.

Continuing to search fallen soldiers for my literature course, I chose Lt. Tracy Alger as my focus. Lt. Alger was an example of what every mother would wish their daughter would be. She was a bright, educated young woman. Tracy had a zest for life that is clearly visible from all the photos posted online. Tracy's character had her being involved in helping people, either working as a certified nursing assistant or leading convoys that transported need supplies for our soldiers. I know I want my daughter to reflect the may beautiful traits she possessed. Thank you to her family, she is quite a young hero.

I happened to stop at the cemetary today where I saw Tracy's grave. I hadn't heard about her before this and was saddened to see taht one of our young folk from this area had lost their life. The small hanging horse from one planter touched my soul so deeply. I too love horses and knew she had been a fella horse lover. Anyway, I just had to come and learn more about her. God bless Tracy and all of our soldiers past and present.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I attended my officer basic course with Tracy. She was a wonderful person, someone I will never forget. I wear a tag with a picture of Tracy on my dogtags. It is located next to my heart and is a constant reminder to me of how real this war is and that good people are killed. I am leaving for a deployment soon, but I am heading back to my home state of Wisconsin. Before I leave, I will drive north to visit Tracy and finally have the closure that I have been waiting for, since I was stationed in Korea when I heard about her passing.

I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for raising such a wonderful young lady that she would take the time to serve this great country. What a wonderful tribute that she left her parents with. I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “The Price of Freedom” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Sat. 24 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sun. 25 May, a “PrayerVigil for Peace” will be held. You are invited to stop by and light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one’s cross in the Memorial Garden, then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

As the wife of a Vietnam Veteran, this war breaks my heart every time
I hear of another casualty. Lt. Tracy Alger was doing what she felt was necessary to honor her commitment to the military. My heart goes out to her family and friends. God bless her memory.

These goes to Tracy's parents and family: God Bless you for having such a brave and wonderful daughter, she blessed your hearts while she was here for a little while, but this life is short no matter what, the long and beautiful life is the one she is living now, HEAVEN!!!! Be brave and be still, and know that our Father in Heaven is taking care of your precious daughter. I myself had a daughter in Iraq, her secong tour ended last month, but like she always tells me, mom we all have a mission in life, some missions are longer and some are shorter, but they are all as important, my daughter might be going to a third tour and I like you will not agree, but we have to accept it, they are and were soldiers, because they are and were mighty and unique young ladies, once again may the Lord heal your hearts, may your soul be restored at the proper time. Another soldier died October 10th of this year, she was 35 years old, had three kids and was one of my daughter's best friend, she was due to come back with my daughter, but that never happened, only one day before she was deceased. My heart was broken and now with the news of your daughter is broken once again, this I tell you with tears in my eyes and with a sincere heart. Lupe from miami.

I was given Tracy's name for The Mother's Day Project. From what I have read about Tracy she was an amazing young woman and American. I am so sorry for the loss her family and friends are feeling. It is my hope that she will be remembered always as a beautiful person. My thoughts and prayers are with Tracy's family and friends.

God Bless you and your family Lt. Alger. You led your troops from the front and that is the mark of a true leader. Thank-you seems so insignificant for such a courageous sacrifice, yet it is all that I can muster through the tears for the loss of one of America's honored daughters.

The news of 2LT Alger's death are very tragic. I knew her personally for a short time while she attended BCT at Fort Jackson; I was her Drill Sergeant and I knew right away that she was a true soldier; she also became my Platoon Guide and all the soldiers in the platoon gave her a hard time but respected and admired her. She is greatly missed. It is an honor to have met her if only for a short time. We still kept in touch and in her last email on 14 Oct 07 she had ask for volunteers to adopt soldiers in her platoon; always looking out for her soldiers. If I could trade places with her I would in a heartbeat but I know nothing I say or do will bring her back. The Army has lost a Great American. May God be with her family as they mourn her loss. God Bless.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To her family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss her, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by her presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Tracy at Officer Candidate School at FT Benning GA. We became good friends. She was a lot of fun to hang out with and we always gave each other a hard time about everything. I always told her a real Soldier could not carry a pink phone with a dog's picture on it and she told me I always eat too slow and not enough. She always called me old man even though whe was only 7 years younger. She excelled at all her tasks and stayed motivated throughout school. We attended BOLC 2 together at Ft Benning also. We went to church together a few times. She talked about her Mom all the time, and her horse, and her dog. I can't remember the name right now. We convoyed in our cars up to Fort Eustis VA and continued our school at as we attended Officer Basic Course for 14 weeks. She always smiled and continued to give me a hard time on a regular basis which was I was always eager to reciprocate. We laughed and laughed and laughed alot as we spent nearly 10 months in schooling together. She was so excited when she bought a new car and took me for a ride. She played her music loud and we laughed alot. We parted on graduation day and she opted to go to Fort Campbell instead of Fort Story so that she could "get in some action". I admired her. I never really knew how good of friends we were until I heard about the tragedy just days ago and I have thought of her daily since. She text messaged me the day before she left for Iraq and was so excited. I texted her back and said a prayer. I just attended her memorial service at Fort Eustis Trans School an hour ago. I will miss Tracy Lynn Alger. She was a true Soldier. Goodbye LT Alger.

My deepest condolences to Tracy's entire extended family and friends. She was a very brave woman. She was a "Big Sister" to her cousin and my nephew who is now enlisted in the Marines. I pray that God will help the entire family carry the weight of her loss and help those in pain understand that she gave her life on behalf of all of us. She will be remembered always.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Lieutenant Alger. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.
