John Patrick Burke



John Patrick Burke, age 60, of Culpeper, Va., died on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at his residence.

He was born on April 26, 1948 in W.Va. to the late John Patrick Burke and Aleta Lewis Burke.

John was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson Morgan High School and in 1968 joined the United States Army serving his country as a Vietnam Veteran. He retired from AVAYA in August of 2001 and went on to continue his career in the voice data division at Jim Corridon until December of 2007. He enjoyed fishing and animals but above all, John loved his wife, children and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" Burke, of Culpeper, and his children, Charles C. Burke, of Brandy Station and Amanda B. Embrey and her husband, Justin, of Reva.

Additional survivors include his siblings, Thomas Burke and his wife, Jan, of Clarksville, Pa. and Patricia Sellers and her husband, Bill, of Altoona, Pa., his cherished grandchildren, Gavin and Aiden Burke and their mother, Jacqueline Wheeler and Alexis Burke; father-in-law, M.D. Compton "Poopsie"; sister-in-law, Susan Compton and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Burke; brother, Charles Burke and daughter-in-law, Tori Burke.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Milton L. Branch officiating.

Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 330 and VFW Post 2524.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Lane, John Chaffin, Bob Pannozzo, Chris Corridon, Robert Withrow, and Ed Ambrose.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 1715 Culpeper, VA 22701.
