To the Cuervo Family,
I am so saddenend by the loss of Steven. I met him in college at USF and we instantly became friends. We took every class together, rode to classes together and studied together. Although we lost touch a couple of years after graduating I thought of him frequently. He was a kind, sincere and giving person and I will never forget the times we shared or the fact that he used to call me by my last name "Castro". You will be missed dearly, Steven.

Mr./Mrs. Cuervo and Ronnie:
I just heard of the tragedy yesterday. My heart has been heavy ever since. Some 25 years after meeting Stevie, I am coaching my own daughter's little league team. Just last week, I saw two brothers (one older and one younger) playing at the park and thought of Ronnie and Stevie. I do not know what triggered the thought, but a rush of memories came flooding back about Stevie from Northside, high school games and American Legion. They were uniformly very touching. In fact, I cannot recall even one time that Stevie was anything other than, warm, funny and gracious. It is a testament to his character and spirit that so many people have such rich and positive memories of Stevie, even though many years have past since we last saw or spoke with him. There is no doubt that he touched many lives. I am so profoundly sorry for the loss to your family, which is one that will be shared by many in this world.

Mr & Mrs Cuervo and Ronnie,
Our deepest condolences to you and your family. I can close my eyes and clearly invision Northside Saturdays and week night games of the Cardinals vs Pirates and Steve's ever present humor. Although we didn't spend much time post Little League we'd always find ourselves smiling and chuckling for no reason when we did bump into each other. What a great spirit!

He was a great guy and great friend growing up. My deepest sympathy go out to his Parents and family. God Bless everyone in the Cuervo Family.

Cuervos,
My prayers are of comfort for you during this difficult time. Steven was one of the most authentic people I've ever known. His spirit is strong in my heart and mind. I wanted to share with you the reflections I had after spending the weekend in Tampa with many that loved Steven.
Steven taught me - how to find the humor in life, how to be a better friend, how to appreciate the true blessings in life, how to listen to my heart, how to really watch a football game and listen to DMB. I learned about family by the way you all love each other and took so many of us into your lives. May the support of an extended "friend" family from the wide network of people your son/brother/husband touched, guide and comfort you. I love you and my heart, prayers and friendship is with you.
Love, Sasha Erickson

To Stephanie and the Cuervo Family,
We were deeply saddened to hear of Steve's passing. We were neighbors whose dogs would play with each other in the front yard. While the dogs would play, we would sometimes talk about a common passion for the game of golf. I was fortunate enough to go to the Ryder Cup this past weekend in Kentucky and thought many times throughout the weekend how great it was going to be to share that experience with Steve. I'm sorry I never had the chance.
Our deepest sympathy goes to Stephanie, Bogey, and the Cuervo family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Cuervo family. I am so saddened by this tragic loss. I first met Steve at Gaither when I moved here in the 10th grade and we instantly became good friends. We continued our connection at USF in the Greek system. My husband, Jonny, and Steve were also fraternity brothers. We were at many of the same functions, even after our college days, and he always put a smile on my face. Steve had a charisma about him that you can't put into words and was a natural leader who was respected in every circle. He also knew how to make everyone laugh. My memories over the years will always be treasured. Steve has touched many lives and will remain in our hearts forever. God Bless.

It was an honor to speak these words at the funeral in celebration of Steven's life.
I’ve known Steven and the entire Cuervo family for over 25 years and during that time I was lucky to call Steven:
My Teammate
My Fraternity Brother and Big Brother
My Groomsman
My Roommate
And one of my most trusted friends.
I find peace in knowing that God has a plan for us all and while this week has been spent recalling special memories of Steven, I’d like to think, Not about what were losing on Earth, but what they’re gaining in heaven.
First and Foremost, Steven was a True Leader. The last time I was asked to speak on his behalf, it was to introduce him as the recipient of the “Order of the Phoenix” award. This is the most prestigious award our fraternity has. It speaks directly to his Leadership ability, and he carried that trait through his entire life.
Steven also had a special sense of humor. He was one of the funniest people I knew, but he also balanced that with humility. He could always make you laugh, and wasn’t afraid to laugh at himself.
He was always trusting, and in turn, was without question, Trustworthy.
Steven always Loved and Cherished his family, and so do I. That strong sense of family guided him his whole life.
Lastly, Steven was the most Loyal person I ever knew.
I will always miss Steven, but I will never forget how much he meant to me and how he touched my Life.
I will honor him and use this to become:
A Better Friend
A Better Brother
A Better Mentor
A Better Family Man
A Better Person
I Hope to Always be a “True Gentleman”, like Steven Cuervo.
Steve Johnson

I said a special prayer for your family in church this morning and think of you all every day. All my love and prayers to your wonderful family. Jennifer Erwin

Ronald, RoseAnn and Ron:
Please know that I held your son in high esteem. I had occasion to work with him for several years as the chapter advisor of the USF SAE chapter while he was president and while he held many other offices, including trainer of our newest pledge members. He was always dilligent, compassionate, hard working, well respected, self depricating and very funny. He took on things with gusto and found a way to have fun, even if circumstances were difficult or tense. He wanted the best for everyone. His SAE brothers and friends will miss him deeply. Of course your loss does not begin to compare with ours but you should know how much Steve will be missed by his hundreds of friends who came to love him through his fraternity. I pray God will bless you with peace and comfort as you carry on in the days and months to come.

Steve was a co-worker of mine for a long time and my boss for a while as well. He was an incredible guy with everything going for him. My heart breaks knowing he's gone. I'll memoralize him with good memories and fun thoughts- it was his fault our canoe tipped over! :) My thouhts and prayers are with his family and friends. The world just lost an amazing man.
Always,
