Mary Hilla Obituary

Mary (Hayes) Hilla, 73 of 29B Flagler Drive, Holden, died Tuesday April 1, 2008 at Oakdale Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.

Her husband of 20 years, Reginald Hilla, died in 1997. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Egan of Lombard, IL; her children, David Specht of Livermore, CA, Kathy Clark of Algonac, MI, Lynne Walker of Holden, Brian Specht of Princeton and John Specht of Burtchville, MI; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (Lawler) Hayes, and lived in Michigan for many years before moving to Massachusetts in 1988. She attended Lewis University and Macomb County Community College. She was a licensed real estate agent and Notary Public, and worked for many years at Raytheon and Waban companies. She was an avid golfer and loved to read in her spare time. She had also served as Treasurer for the Friends of the Council on Aging, Secretary of the Checkerberry Village Tenants Association, and volunteered her time driving for Meals on Wheels.

Honoring her request, there will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Network and Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608-1280. (www.vnacarenetwork.org). Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden is directing arrangements.
