Ingeborg Volke

Ingeborg Volke, 92, of East Haven, CT., died Tuesday, April 15th at the Beaumont.

Her husband of 60 years, Ernest E. Volke passed away in October 1998. She is predeceased by three sisters, Sigrid Arus of Toronto, Canada, Britta Luiga of Stockholm Sweden, Rhea Gilles of Dartmouth, MA and her brother, Erik Heinman of Tallinn, Estonia. She is survived by a son, Urmas "Ernie" Volke, daughter-in-law Jacquelyn Volke and two grandson's, Erik A. Volke of Westminster, MA and Dana C. Volke. A third grandson Andrew J. Volke tragically predeceased her in November of 2002.

Mrs. Volke was born in Tallinn, Estonia, the daughter of Gustav and Wilhelmine Heinman and lived there until the Soviet invasion and occupation of Estonia in 1940. She and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1950 and settled in East Haven, CT for over 52 years.

Inge, as she liked to be known, attended Tartu University prior to W.W. II, and her husband attained his PhD from Heidelberg University in Germany where they lived after the war.

She was a professional seamstress of children's formal wear and later worked as a floral arranger for the J.A. Long Co. in East Haven for many years. She was an avid reader, spoke several languages fluently, loved gardening and was a marvelous cook.

An elegant and immensely kind person, she will be missed greatly by her family.
