Anthony Tomasiello Obituary

Honorable Anthony N. Tomasiello Sr., 87, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Monday, April 21, 2008 in St. Vincent Hospital. Anthony is survived by his loving family, his wife Mary C. (Bodinizzo) Tomasiello of Shrewsbury; a son, Attorney Anthony N. Tomasiello Jr. and his wife Janet Amorello of Holden; a grandson, Samuel A. Tomasiello; two sisters: Josephine Arell and Mary Delaney. Anthony is also survived by a niece, Sandra Paradis: two brothers-in- law: Joseph and Michael Bodinizzo; and three sisters-in-law: Frances Walkowiak, Theresa Paretti, and Annette Pellegrino, all who assisted him so dearly in his years of declining health, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Fiore Tomasello and a nephew, Dan Tomasello.

Judge Tomasiello was born in Worcester, son of Donato and Lena (Russo) Tomasiello and lived in Shrewsbury most of his life. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, and the College of the Holy Cross Class of 1943. He received his Law Degree from Suffolk University. Judge Tomasiello started his law practice in 1951 upon passing his Bar Exam. He became the Assistant Clerk of the Worcester Superior Court in 1969 and served in that position until 1978.

He served four years as the Clerk Magistrate in the Milford District Court until 1982. From 1982, he served as the Justice for the Nantucket District Court and was appointed as the presiding justice in 1986, and retired in 1991.

Among Judge Tomasiello's many memberships he was a life member of Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, The 1st Friday Club, The East Side Post #201, The Worcester Lodge #168 Son's Of Italy in America Cristoforo Columbo, The Knights Of Columbus, a past President of the Unico Club, and was the Secretary for the Holy Cross Purple Knights for his Class of "43" he was also a member of the Indian Meadows, Pleasant Valley, and Wachusett Country Clubs where he enjoyed playing golf. Judge Tomasiello was a recipient of the St. Thomas Moore Award, and the Son's Of Italy Achievement Award. Anthony and Mary enjoyed many winters in Florida with their friends, and were longtime patrons of the San Vitaliano Society.

Judge Tomasiello's funeral will be held Saturday, April 26, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home are 4-7PM on Friday. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester, MA 01605. Members of the East Side Post #201 will perform their ritual at 7PM.
