Arthur Fontaine Obituary

Arthur J. "Frenchie" Fontaine, 82, of Worcester, passed away Thursday, June 12th, 2008 in the Umass-Memorial Healthcare, Memorial campus.

Arthur is survived by his children, Mark R. Fontaine and his wife Joanne of Brookfield, Catherine M. Boivin and her husband Ronald of Largo, Florida, JoAnne T. Trotto and her husband Mickey, and Doreen A. Alarie all of Worcester, Linda M. Barrett and her husband William of Paxton, Sherry M. Belair of Auburn; two brothers, Robert Fontaine of Kingston, N.H. and Richard Fontaine of Worcester; two sisters, Janice Oldham of Colbert, Georgia, and Joyce Bonney of Sudbury; sixteen grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. His wife Florence "Flo" (DiPasquale) Fontaine passed away almost 2 years to the day, June 13th of 2006, A sister, Joan Lennon also pre deceased him; Arthur was born in Worcester, his parents were the late Arthur A. and Amy (Rayla) Fontaine. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, joined the U.S. Marine Corps to serve his country during World War II, and has lived here all his life. Arthur worked for the City of Worcester, more than 25 years in the Water Department before retiring. He was a devoted veteran of the U.S. Marines. Corps who was proud of his service and proud to be a member of the Marines. He joined and is still a member of the Worcester Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, and the 6th Marine Division Association.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, June 16th prior to the funeral.

To the Fontaine's-
Blackie was a special guy. He will be missed. Linda, remember what your grandfather said when we went to see Suzanne Northrop, thank-you for taking care of your father. I'll always remember the way Blackie always made me smile. My thoughts are with all of you.
