Kenneth Scott Obituary

Kenneth E. Scott, 81, of Ft. Myers, FL passed away January 3, 2008. He was the son of Henry A. and Amanda E. Scott of Webster, MA. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Oldham); son Kenneth and his wife Jayne of Groton, CT; daughter Cynthia Scott and her husband Bill Morrison of Ossipee, NH; son Jeffrey and his wife Lynn of Holden, MA; and son Donald and his wife Trinity of Naples, FL. He had six grandchildren: David and Julia (Kenneth), Ryan and Mary Elizabeth (Jeffrey); and Taylor and Ayden (Donald).

He served in WWII in the 100th Infantry Division and in the Army of Occupation in Germany in the 301st Signal Operating Battalion from 1944-46. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1948 and received his MS in 1954 both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). From 1948-91 he was a member of the faulty at WPI. From 1968-90 he developed and directed an instructional media center, he was director of the CAD Lab from 1980-91, and Acting Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering 1988-89. He received numerous awards for his skills as a teacher and innovator including the Trustees' award for Outstanding Teacher of the year, 1974; the Excellence and Campus Leadership award from Sears-Roebuck Foundation; he received the first George I. Alden Professor of Engineering Chair from 1971-75; and the William R. Grogan award in recognition of support for Mission of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1998. He was a fellow of ASME & ASEE.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hope Hospice of Ft. Myers, Ft. Myers Congregational United Church of Christ or Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to a service in memory of his life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street, Holden.
