Chester S. Kolaczyk

Chester S. Kolaczyk, 80, of Melville, NY, on July 2, 2008.

Beloved husband of the late Marion for 53 years. Cherished father of Christopher and Melissa (Paul M.) McCarthy. Loving grandfather of Kerriann McCarthy and Paul McCarthy. Devoted brother of Frank. Dear uncle of Francine Smith, Dory Daly, Kim Kolaczyk, Karen Kolaczyk, Kristen O'Brien, Mark Bialczak and Kenneth Kolaczyk. Great Uncle of Kiara Kolaczyk, Keith Kolaczyk, Kolby O'Brien, and Konor O'Brien.

Chester was born and raised in Worcester. At the age of 17 he graduated from Classical HS in 1946 and joined the US Navy during WWII. In 1954 he received an engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he was a magnanimous donor. He continued studies at several institutions including Long Island University, Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, NYU and earned a professional engineering degree from C.W. Post. He was a highly respected employee of Underwriters Labs from which he retired. Chet spent most of his career traveling in Asia where he inspected manufacturing facilities to ensure they met US standards. His expertise also brought him to his parents' native land of Poland.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Massachusetts General Hospital in memory of Chester Kolaczyk, Development Office, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114 or to Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Rd., Worcester, MA 01609. Visiting hours are on Sunday, July 6, 2-5p.m. and 7-9p.m. at the M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Mass is on Monday, July 7, at 9:30a.m. at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, Melville, NY. Burial in Calverton National Cemetery.
