James Ringquist Obituary

James E. Ringquist, Sr., 83, of 2 Marshall Hill Rd., died Wednesday night, July 2, peacefully in his home.

He leaves his wife of 61 1/2 years, Constance M. (Eskola) Ringquist; two sons, James E. "Jay" Ringquist Jr. and his wife, Sara, and Robert P. Ringquist, and his wife, Debra; three brothers, Carl W. Ringquist of Hartford, Ct., Richard Ringquist of Portland, Oregon, and Gordon Ringquist of Castleton, Vt.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Young, and her husband, Corbin, Nathan Ringquist, Lindsey Ringquist, and her fiancé, Sean McMullin, Jacob Ringquist, Heather Roberts, and her husband, Donnie, Priscilla Ringquist, and Meredeth (Ringquist) Perry; seven greatgrandchildren, Shelara and Tala Roberts, Christian Manca, Eric and Alana Perry and Haley and Emery Young.

Mr. Ringquist was a Toll Tester for the New England Telephone Co. in Fitchburg and Leominster for 40 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Westminster, the Westminster American Legion, and was a 1942 graduate of Fitchburg High School. He enjoyed skiing and swimming and was a loving husband to Constance for nearly 62 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and family. He will he sadly missed by his family and friends.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a Technician Fourth Grade in the 66th Infantry Regiment of the 71st Division, and saw action in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign from 1943 to 1946. He served in the U. S Army Reserves, 850th Signal Corp, following the war for 20 years, and retired at the rank of Captain He attended the U.S. Army Flight School in Logan, Utah, following the war. Over the years he was known for telling great war stories to his family and friends.

He was born in Fitchburg, on July 16, 1924, a son of the late Carl W., and Alma (Anderson) Ringquist and lived in Fitchburg for 10 years, before moving to Westminster and living there for the past 52 years.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 7, at 11 a.m. in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Rev. Sally Calhoon will officiate. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Westminster. Calling hours at the Funeral Home are Monday, July 7, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or may be left at the Funeral Home.
