Josephine Dolan Obituary

Josephine C. Dolan, formerly of Cedar St., Worcester, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She celebrated her 101st birthday last Tuesday.

Josephine was born in Worcester on July 1, 1907, daughter of Patrick J. and Catherine M. (O'Connor) Dolan and lived in Worcester all her life. Her only brother, Thomas Dolan died in 1926.

Jo was a 1925 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was an operator for the New England Telephone Co. for 48 years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of St. Paul's Cathedral Parish and a former longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Josephine leaves a first cousin.

The funeral will be Tuesday, July 8 from the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. There is a calling hour Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home before the funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation St., Worcester 01605.

Josephine was living history. She gave me so much information on our family history. I will treasure all the stories.
I'll be wearing pink in honor of Jo. It was her favorite color. Her apartment had pink carpet and even a pink telephone.

Josephine was a remarkable, special woman. I had the privelage to take care of her for some time prior her entering the nursing home. She was wonderful to be around and to listen to her stories of her younger times. God has taken in an Angel.
