Henry Madden Obituary

Henry Edward Madden, Jr., of West falmouth, MA, died on June 19, at the age of 84.

Born in Worcester in August 1923 to Henry Edward Madden, Sr. and Irene M. Millett, he attended Worcester public schools including New Woodland Prep and South High School, graduating in the class of 1941.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, he enlisted in the US Navy advancing to rank of machinist mate and participated in many major battles in the Pacific during his tour of duty.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, he enrolled and graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, where he met and married Ruth Helen Foden. The Maddens came to Falmouth and purchased Rowes Pharmacy on Main Street and ran it as Maddens Pharmacy until 1972. Mrs. Madden died in 1979.

After selling the pharmacy, Mr. Madden became the first full time Harbor Master of Falmouth, leaving the position in 1983 to manage the Bourne Marina at Taylor Point. He was an avid boater. He was also a member of the Lower Cape Rose Society.

He is survived by his sister, Jane Cafarella of Falmouth; a brother, Philip S. Madden of Cincinnati, OH; his second wife, Alma Potter Madden, to whom he was married for 24 years; four children, Jane Herrick of Boxboro, Susan Balsano of Sharon, Kathleen Madden of Falmouth and Tricia Vanacore of Darien, CT and many grandchildren.

The service has already been held.
